°09° day 8
I didn't get a whole lot of sleep, but eventually, when the noises quieted down, I did manage to close my eyes and drift off into dreamland.
I notice the surface underneath me slightly shift around as the sunlight comes crashing into the room, marking an end to a goodnights rest.
I carefully open my eyes and look at the moving surface. Two eyes stare back at me as a soft smile forms on his face. My vision was getting better by the day as now I could actually see things up close pretty well.
'Good morning, Grace.' 'Morning,' I mumble as I pull the blanket closer to me in an attempt to go back to sleep.
I notice how one of his arms is still around me holding on to me like there's still drama on outside. But it didn't sound like there was any drama anymore, no loud noises, no whistling noises or flickering of bright lights. Only a few crickets and frogs could be heard.
'I need to get up, check out the situation and see if anyone needs help,' he explains. 'I want to join.'
'Can you walk?' He asks.
'No idea, let me try.'
I sit up and fold up the blanket that was covering us. I notice that I'm sitting right in between the legs of the boy I used as bed tonight. My cheeks are burning up as a sudden wave of embarrassment hits me. I've only known the boy for a week, but when he wraps his arms around me, it feels like I've known him for ages.
Noa stands up first and hands me a hand to help me stand up. I bite down on my lip as bending my knee feels like a thousand needles are poking in my skin.
I take a step while still holding on to the boy, making sure I don't fall. It hurts to walk, but it's nothing I can't manage.
'It's not over, is it? I know we can't stop you so lean onto me and let me help, okay? I'll see if Cosmo or Eros is around to take a quick look themselves,' he says and all I do is nod.
Staggering out the box I halt to take a look around. I can see some figures moving around in the background handing each other something back and forth. I glance at the location the object is being moved to and notice a warm orange light.
'Is there a fire?' I ask.
'It's almost out,' Odin says. I almost forgot that he was here as well and had seen how I cuddled up to Noa last night. I honestly don't know why I feel this ashamed, but my heart beats faster when I think about it and my cheeks feel warmer.
'Come on.'
I lean onto Noa and take a few careful steps until we reach the location of the fire. Coming closer I can see that some sort of meteorite has hit the log I was sitting on last night and the logs around it were still softly burning from the fire of the impact. It was heading straight towards me like I was the target and not the boys.
I want to take a step closer to the meteorite to get a closer look when a hand pushes me back roughly. I stumble on my feet and probably would've fallen if the boy behind me didn't break my fall.
'Careful dude! The woman can't see,' the guy who broke my fall says. His voice sounds familiar, but I can't seem to link it to a name yet. His lower voice makes me think it's one of the older guys.
'Shut it Echo, if she can't see, she shouldn't even be here,' their leader responds with an annoyed tone to his words.
Echo. I met him when Rasat took me around to meet everyone, but I can't seem to remember what he does.
I glance around and notice a handful of people decided to look around the area while the others all seemed to be a big blur in the background, at a safe distance.
'If you're just going to be standing in the way I suggest you leave,' their leader speaks up again, 'and get some clean clothes. You look like you took a bath with the pigs.'
I stare at Ace in disbelief. What did I do to deserve such a comment from someone who's supposed to care for everyone? I know I've not been very useful, but I'm not a useless object that is getting passed around.
I carefully turn around to stagger away. I'm not in the mood to argue with someone who can lock me up.
'Wait,' a hand on my shoulder stops me, 'I think I found a use for your neck tube.'
Noa explains how they found a metal box in another crater just a few meters away from the meteorite. They examined the box and tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge at all. Then they found a small circular hole and now they wonder if the object out of my neck will fit in it.
'Here, feel free to try,' I say as I hand him the tube.
Without wasting any more time, he pushes it into the hole.
A loud beeping noise is followed as a bright blue light is protected above the box, making some of the boys nearby gasp. I kneel down by the box to get a closer look and then I see it. It's a projection of me with lots of information.
'Someone please read this aloud for me.' I ask when I notice I cannot see well enough to read. Someone opens their mouth to start when the box interrupts them by emitting a robot-like noise.
