°01° Day 1
Slowly the wagon I'm in comes to a stop, but I had preferred it to keep going.
The road was bumpy.. as far as you could call it a road. I don't know.. I couldn't see it.
All I know is that this is going to be my stop and I will never get back to where I originally belonged if I could remember where that actually was.
I could hear the shouts of excitement, annoyance and fear coming from outside.
I knew exactly where I was.
I knew exactly why I didn't want to be here.
I knew exactly what my job here would be.
But I it felt like there was a foggy wall all over those memories.
I know, but as soon as I wanted to recall why.. I couldn't.
The only thing I could recall exactly was how I could escape my fate..
Run
I take a deep breath and open the door on the left.
The horses were like carrier pigeons and would leave as soon as all supplies were taken out, including me. They are being controlled.
I hear how a few people start walking towards me, but I don't pay attention to it.. my attention is on the crates that were send with me.
I unlock the right door and open it slightly.
I move all the crates to the left.
I feel something round.. perfect.
I throw it out of the left door and speed out the right.
I expected my eyes to clear up by the light but.. all I saw was a blur.. had they blinded me?
My hands go up to my eyes hoping to find a blindfold but all I felt were my own eyelids.
'It's.. it's a girl?' 'I call dibs!'
'Stop being this ignorant! She's running away from us!'
The shouts make me realise my mission.
I speed up again, but the blur is too hard to deal with. How can I run away without being able to see? I'm running away from the noise but who says I won't run into a tree?
'Please wait we're not going to hurt you.' 'Says who?' I shout.
I stop in my tracks and turn around. It's pointless to keep running.
But maybe running would've been the better option since the boy now crushes into me and we fall to the ground.
'Sorry! I.. didn't me.. mean to do that. Are you okay?'
'Who says you won't hurt me?' I repeat. 'I do.' He gets off me and helps me stand up.
'I'm Lageos but people call me Gio.'
'Grace,' I mumble.
'Uh.. people are uhm looking at us. Are you going to shake m.. my hand or not?' He asks with an awkward chuckle.
'I can't see,' I mutter.
'Right.. sorry I forgot.'
'What do you mean?' I reply.
'The other girls couldn't see as well.'
'Other girls?' I repeat.
'What if you just shake m.. my hand first and I'll tell you later?'
I extend my hand and he shakes it.
'Let's get back to the others.'
'Are they going to laugh at my attempt to run away?' I ask.
'That or m..making stupid comments on the fact that you're a girl.'
Gio seems to be struggling with words starting with the m.
'Shoot.. I should've kept running.'
He chuckles quietly.
'M..maybe you should have yes, but if we got you.. you would've been thrown in the box.'
'The box?' I repeat.
'A pathetic excuse for a prison.'
He wraps an arm over my shoulder, making me want to push him away.. but he stops me.
'I just want to help you get back.'
'Fine,' I murmur and let the boy lead me.
He isn't tall.. I would say he's around the same size as I am, then again.. I don't know if I'm as short as I think I am.. I don't even remember what I look like.
'I thought you would just keep runnin' until your legs would give up,' someone says once I get back to the group.
It's all a blur of colours for me.. a lot of distinct colours, I think it's the clothing all the boys are wearing.. at least I hope they are wearing clothes, I wouldn't know if they weren't. Damn.. it's making me dizzy.
'I would've preferred to keep running as well,' I answer to an unknown direction. 'I'm standin' over here.'
'She can't see just like the last one,' a voice from behind me says, making me think it's Gio.
'Well nothin' we can't fix, I already checked the crates and the same solution as last time was in there a side from some clothes.'
The thought of how many boys could've looked through my clothes without me knowing made me sick.
'So, if you would kindly follow me.'
'No.' I respond as a sudden memory reappears.
The crowd goes quiet and I can feel their eyes piercing through my whole body.
'I'm sorry? Look I'm tryin' to help you.. so just follow me and let me do somethin' about your eyes. You will be able to see in about two days.'
'I understand, but I'm turning down your offer,' I reply.
'So you don't want to see?' Someone else asks.
'Of course I want to see.'
'I'm so confused,' yet another one mumbles. 'The solution will make me forget everything I still remember, everything they failed to wipe away.'
'Does it?' 'That explains why Aura didn't recognise us anymore.'
'Okay hold up, how many girls are here?' I decide to ask.
'Including you three,' someone answers.
Three girls.. another puzzle piece gets placed into the jigsaw puzzle in my mind.
That meant I was going to be the last one to arrive, no new girls or boys would join us.
'I still want you to come with me though. I need to check your health, sometimes people are severely injured when they get here.' 'Fine.'
I let him lead me to somewhere inside and he lets me sit down in what I assume is a chair.
'So.. a bit feisty, aren't you?' He asks.
'I get thrown into an area filled with boys.. I think I have the right to try and get away,' I mumble. Of course, I won't tell him about my vague memories and how they were the real reason for me to run away.
'If you think so,' he replies.
'So, what's your name?' 'Grace.'
'Well Grace, I'm Cosmo the society's most friendly healer,' he replies.
'I don't know about friendly.'
'How can you know whether I am or not so soon? We just met. Once you get to know me your opinion will probably change.'
'I won't get to know you,' I murmur.
'So you're still goin' to try to get away? Let me tell you somethin'.. no one has succeeded to get away from here.'
'How would you know?' I ask.
'We found their bodies.'
