It was time for the wheel of creation to spin again and so it spun.........

Mermaids were created next. With a manly torso and fishe's tail they were the next masters the seas which were by then abandoned by the elves for the better habitat on the lands.

They had no magic but were powerful and fast..... very very fast. A blink of an eye and.... gone. It was said that a blow to a mermaid's tail could instantly kill it's receiver. Making vast underwater colonies by inhabiting the buildings made by their predecessors, they had peaceful relations with the elves. They promised to never raid each other's territories and never ever hurt one another as they both realised each other's ability to eliminate the existence of the other and living in peace and harmony was for the best of everyone and for the Terra.

Elves leader Sumara and his wife Casparia  gave them their one lock of hair each to show their harmony and strengthen their friendship and Mermaid king and Queen accepted them with equal grace. (A strand of hair meant a big deal for elves as it was like gifting magic to another that they would eventually lose from themselves)

Mermaids sometimes brought the elves treasures of nature they found underseas like the moon stone or the black rock as they were magical entities and they had no access to magic unlike the elves so treasures like these were useless to them.

Though honour of the words were often kept, still a treaty was signed not to invade each other's kingdom that involved promises made and binded with the flames of black water called the Dubh Liosta.

The life spans of the mermaids were short, but had better ability to reproduce. What they lacked in magic, they gained in number.
The reproductive process ofmermaids was something really interesting to behold.
The giving birth was a festival known as the Feria, incourse of which the Mermaids layed eggs wit a golden glow around in a special area of the sea known as the Ùrlair, the waters there was said to possess a special substance that made the females more fertile. The eggs inside had their tiny babies which were called a Puero for a merboy and a Purina for a mergirl, in shells that looked thin and transparent, more with a jelly like appearance but were tougher than a Balena's (ancestors of a blue whale) skin. Their capacity to reproduce was high though had a life span of approx 800 years much lesser compared to that of the elves.

Their Mermans were taken as very aggressive and never allowing their women to outshine them for women women were considered more like a resource for giving birth. They hunted sea turtles and sometime the sea monsters, though their ability to build things was next to nothing and eventually they inhabited the buildings abandoned by the elves. Covering them in lush sea plants and weeds to make it look like a hideout.

Finding a mate wasn't as complex as the elves. A new Merman king was decided every 500 years till then the first born of predecing king was decided to rule, and the queen..... well  whoever the king found most beautiful was taken as his queen performing a blood ceremony similar to that of the elves (more like an attempt to replicate) with their dark greenish blood (yes their blood was green) by rubbing their tails against each other and promising to never find another mate in their lifetime. If any of the promised couple was found to be unfaithful, he/she was thrown in the deep trenches of the sea mountains, tied with rocks to sink and die, for they were strict with their values.

The latest king being Cyrus was smitten with beauty of queen Cyntia (like all the other Mermens in the Kingdom) for no mermaid in their history of 3 billion years was even close enough to her beauty as she was born with gems studded to her tail, something that was so rare and considered only a myth prior to her. Also it was a rumor among them that she was the daughter of the exiled Queen (mother of current King Cyrus) who was thrown in the trenches for being unfaithful to the then king and had relations out of the wedlock and replaced her own daughters egg with another mermaids making it possible for Cyntia to be raised in another family. So according to this account she happened to be the half sister of Cyrus, thus making their union sinful.  No one knew the actual truth including her and Cyrus, all she knew was that she was chosen by her mate would be by his side forever.

King Cyrus was someone who would trust easily sort of naive and gullible  though physically he possessed a lot of strength. The king and queen given with the fate of barenness were in search of magic to help them and fulfill their duty to give their kingdom a heir.
Sumara being a good friend of their's and had promise to look into his cause. Another thing about them was that they were able enough to live in the icy cold water but a higher temperature was ample enough to kill them. Blessed as obviously dextrous swimmers but had limited swimming stamina, getting exhausted easily they had ancient turtles as their pets and used them as a ride or for travelling longer distances and also sometimes as food. The sea regarded them as their new masters now and it was almost adamant to keep it that way.

They lived for the next 12 million years with the elves before the arrival of the third being. The being whose mere presence would threaten the existence of those existing before it.
