// World War III //
So I'm fucking terrified right now and if you don't know what's happening, here's a quick summary.
Qasem Soleimani, the most significant military figure in Iran, was just assassinated upon Trump's orders (without Congressional authority).
This is a very big deal and could even lead to world war three, people are saying this is the most significant event in the Middle East after the Iraq war.
Iran has vowed revenge and thousands of US troops are heading to the Middle East.
Even if this doesn't escalate to a full on world war, it will for sure even further destabilize the region (maybe even extend to South Asia as Pakistan and Afghanistan are very close to Iran). The ripple effects, the range and effects of America's nuclear weapons (which most of are 10-50 times stronger than the bombs that brought Hiroshima to a standstill), millions of lives will be lost. More terrorist factions will form and pro-democracy movements in the region will be set back.
I've been thinking about this all day, and I've never seriously feared a war till now. Exams start on the 7th and I could barely get any revision done today. I couldn't see the point. If we're at risk of war, what's the point of decent grades? But I convince myself to at least try as I'm going to get to see my grades in about a month or two which isn't enough time for the war to extend to the Gulf countries (this all only happened in the fucking first three days of 2020 so I could be wrong).
I keep having this thought that I'd be safer in Pakistan because it does have nuclear weapons but I tell myself it's more dangerous in different aspects.
But I still can't stop feeling scared. I just have this feeling that something bad will happen. I've barely lived at all and worse... what if something happens to my family if? I just sgsjdgshsgsvxvxvsgwtsf.
And I feel really guilty for feeling this way because in comparison, I'm so fucking privileged. Yes, this doesn't mean anything less than terrifying for any country in the region but the UAE is one of the most economically developed ones and they have good relations with the USA (I think). Also, Saudi Arabia, a strong ally of the UAE, is on pretty good terms with the USA so I think that makes us friendly with them by association?
BUT THEY SENT FUCKING THOUSANDS OF TROOPS TO THE MIDDLE EAST.... WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT IF THEY DIDN'T WANT WAR? ALSO WTF IS CONGRESS DOING, IS DONALD TRUMP A DICTATOR NOW?
The point is, Iranian and Iraqi people who have already suffered so much under American imperialism, will be most affected by this. Countless lives will be lost, progress undone and people will lose family, friends.
That news about the troops destroyed any little hope I had that this would deescalate.
Also, Americans on Twitter are pissing me off rn. #WorldWarThree was trending instead of #NoWarWithIran . And guess what? It's full of self-victimization.
It's through those tweets that I actually first heard about this, they've been trending here too. At first, I didn't think much of it because I assumed they were genuinely frightened about the war and using humor as a coping mechanism but boy, ever since researching more about this, how well equipped the US is and won't lose anything besides the money on funding war, I've been very pissed. They really think they'll be draughted or as affected by this as actual people in the region who don't fucking have such power and nuclear weapons.
When they're self-victimizing and not even acknowledging the countless lives that will be lost rn, they're definitely going to downplay this when it's over.
