I really hope this just a temporary glitch instead of an update.
I mean, why would it be an update!? It's so unnecessary! There's always been the 'notify my followers' option so wtf is the point of this.

I can barely see actual notifications like story updates and comments, thanks to my notification feed being filled with people posting on their message boards about how bad this update this and sometimes it's the same people, complaining in a different way. Like jeez, we got it the first two times.

Also, I usually don't have a problem with self-promo because c'mon, who doesn't want their books read? But it's getting really annoying now and we're all salty about this glitch so this is not the best thing to promote your story through. Most people who'll see it in   in their notifications will probably be  too pissed to go and read your story.
