// Hogwarts Mystery is Terrible//

My character tried using lumos in a duel, need I say more?

Okay, so I was actually super psyched to play this game ever since I updated my phone because I had high expectations from it.

Anddd it actually turned out to be really disappointing. Most of it, at least.

The first few moments of the game were kinda cool because you're getting your Hogwarts letter, you're going to Diagon Alley and getting all those vibes, it's kinda fun.

Despite all the faults I find, I'll still keep playing the game because the graphics and sound effects make it feel like Hogwarts. It's amazing in that way but there's shit that outweighs that.

For starters, I was very pissed at the sorting. There are so many quizzes online, would it be too much if they added one instead of letting you pick your own house? Like sure, the Sorting Hat takes your opinion into consideration and might even let you choose but it doesn't straight up ask you, "Hey, what house do you want to join?"

Yeah, that was very disappointing.
Also, I was pretty pissed when I discovered you can't even explore different areas of the castle unless they have something to do with the story?

I'm seven chapters in and the only places I've been too are:

1. Ravenclaw Tower
2. The Great Hall
3. A small portion of the grounds
4. Charms and Potions classrooms

Also why the fuck do you have only charms, portions and flying class in first year? What about Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts?
And when the fuck will I get to meet Bill Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks?

Speaking of them, let me get into how bored I am of my character's only friends.

Rowan seemed like a really interesting character at first but there's literally no depth to her and now, I find her so pretentious and annoying. She's a watered down version of Hermione.

Then, Ben Cooper, the Gryffindor who fears everything. Sound familiar?
He kind of feels like an exaggerated version of younger Neville Longbottom.
But unlike Neville, he doesn't have any redeeming qualities or depth.

He always has the same terrified look on his face and it's so freaking annoying.

Finally, Merula, our protagonist's bully. And guess what house she's in?

Wrong! Slytherin. What a fucking surprise! How damn original!

I thought Hogwarts Mystery would be like a virtual wizarding world where you could interact with actual  potterheads as witches/wizards, take classes together and explore and shit. So meeting these boring characters was nothing more than disappointing.

And the classes? They make even real life math seem interesting.
First, I was all psyched because of the wonderful sound affects and the addition of Snape and Flitwick's voices.

But they turned out to be stupid mini tapping games, trace-the-pattern and random Harry Potter trivia that has nothing to do with what the class is about.

Snape asked who's the Divination teacher in a class about the Cure for Boils potion.

I get it's a game but come on, they could've added literally any question that had even the vaguest correlation to Potions?

Why the fuck would Snape even care about Divination?

To be honest, I kind of wish this was how real life classes worked. You get asked random questions about the school. Who's the school janitor? And boom bitch, 20 points to Ravenclaw.
*remembers houses don't exist irl* Well, it was a good idea.

Okay, back to the point. You need energy to complete classes, which ends so effing fast. If you're lucky, you'll get through a short class but if it's a longer one, you'll have to wait for like an hour in between when you're drained or pay for energy.
Once, I ran out of energy and came back too late so I missed the class and had to do it all over again from the beginning :)

How fun!

Also, you need energy to complete tasks so if that's drained from classes, you can't do those either.

I had to fucking watch my character get strangled by the Devil's Snare as I waited for my energy to refill so I could do something.

The tasks usually help the story move forward but between waiting for all the energy refills, plain characters and excruciatingly slow pacing, I have  stopped giving a single flying fuck about the cursed vaults and my character's lost brother.

Gobstones seemed like a good idea but it turned out to be another boring ass mini game. You distract your opponents and use their weaknesses against them.

Exploit your friends' fears and BOOM FRIENDSHIP LEVEL UP! What a fun game!

So today, I installed the game in my mom's phone and played as a Slytherin, making different choices.

Surprise bitch! The outcome is still the same. Exactly the fucking same.

I get you can't stray from the main storyline but jeez, at least have slightly different outcomes for different choices.

Snape would never deduct points from Slytherin because it's fucking Snape and it's a well established fact that he favors his house a lot.

I don't understand why he would automatically hate one of his own house's students, that's so freaking OOC for him.

I know the points needed to be deducted but couldn't another teacher have done that?

The only perk of playing in Slytherin was that their prefect is kinda hot.

Also, I find it hilarious when my character completes a task in class and is full-on celebrating but literally no one else gives a fuck, they're all doing their own thing with deadass expressions.

Even Rowan doesn't look up or something 😂. Like jeez, aren't we best friends? Hype ya girl up, come on.

So yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of Hogwarts Mystery but I'll still continue playing it because I love the vibes and we meet Bill Weasley in Year 2 so I need to get to that point.

What do you think about it?
xoxo
