First released in 1966; the Action Soldier was based on the original 1964 GI Joe figure of the same name along with a few tweaks and was released alongside the Action Sailor and Action Pilot, inside his box was one of three themed 'Training Manuals', small fold-up 'Official Equipment Manual' (a two sided fold out poster) showing the full range along with a collector's star card that came with two starter stars. As to be expected, this brave action soldier became an instant sensation and Toy of the Year in 1966.
