Chapter 9- Petunia-Poppy
She could feel his presence the entire time. The big black car was crawling right next to her like it was stalking her. She was trying not to look back, but now and then she couldn't help but steal a glance in his direction. Every time she did, he looked like he was busy talking on his phone.
Truthfully, she wished she was in the car. It was hot, she was sweating and her legs were killing her. She'd almost given up a few times thinking about that comfortable seat and the aircon, but she wasn't about to give him that satisfaction!
She was going to walk all the way home come hell or high water. After all, she was a total nutter, wasn't she?
She finally rounded the last corner before her house. She'd been walking for over an hour already, and she'd never been so happy to see her crappy, dirty apartment building.
"I'm home!" She stopped walking and turned to look at the black car that was only a few feet away from her. "You can go now!" She shouted and gestured for him to leave. But he didn't drive off. Instead, the window came down once more and she found herself looking straight at him.
God, he was stunning. Gorgeous and unnerving as hell. His look was a mixture of sex and danger and she wasn't sure whether she was more scared of him, or more attracted to him?
"So I'll see you in the office tomorrow then." He turned the engine off and leaned out the window even more.
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"We'll write off today because of the misunderstanding, but I'll see you tomorrow then."
"What!!!" She couldn't believe what he was saying. He expected her to work for him after he'd had her thrown out of the building? Clearly, he was the mad one. Not her. "No thanks." She dismissed him quickly and started walking once more. This time she heard a door slam behind her and footsteps approaching. She whipped around once more and found that he was standing right behind her, his proximity gave her a fright, and she stumbled backward. An arm shot out and grabbed her.
"Uh... thanks." She looked down at his hand; it was wrapped tightly around her wrist. His hand was so big that it almost covered her entire forearm. Sure she was petite, but this man was a beast. And he wasn't letting her go either. She continued to look at his hand, wondering if his fingers were ever going to loosen.
"Sorry." She thought she heard him mumble as he finally let go and put his hand into his pocket. "So tomorrow, be there at seven again." He turned and started walking away and she called after him.
"Look, I should never have taken this job in the first place. It was stupid of me. I have no way of getting to work. I don't have a car anymore, and as it turns out, I'm not very good at riding a bike and even worse at chaining it up."
"You rode a bike to work this morning?" He turned around and looked stunned.
"Well, I had an accident midway and then had to wheel it all the way to the office which was bloody hard, let me tell you. Bottom line... I just can't work for you. Thanks, but no thanks." She turned and started walking away. He didn't follow her this time and she was finally free of him. She managed to make it all the way to the door of her apartment when she thought she heard him say something.
"I'll be here to fetch you at 6:30 sharp. Don't be late. Only until you get your car back."
When she realized what he'd said, she opened her mouth to protest. But it was too late. He was already in his car pulling away.
She stood there in total bewilderment looking after the big black car as it drove off into the distance.
She wasn't sure if she was supposed to be happy about this, or absolutely terrified?
