White Snowfall
I wonder what the other side of the Bridge is like. I've been told that the people that live there are ugly. They kill and steal from each other. I've never understood that. Why take something that you could get if you tried? It makes no sense.
"Come here, dear. It's time for breakfast."
That's my mom. She's always doing something to occupy herself. Then again, there isn't really much you can do on a snowy day like this.
Staring at the falling snow like this... it's refreshing. People are always inside when it snows. Snow makes everything cold and makes things wet when it melts, or that's what my friends say. They say it's too cold to do anything outside. Even my mom stays inside while my dad is at work.
My mom is a stay home mother of three, so she's left with all the house chores. My dad works at the Magic Academy and is almost never home. I understand though. He's busy with work and so he can't come home. That's normal for teachers, right?
"Liza! Please hurry up or you'll be late for school!"
Oh yeah, that's me. Liza Joann. I'm 18 years old and am in high school. I don't have many "friends" but lots of people talk to me. I guess it's because I have an exceptional magical ability? Also, just because they talk to me doesn't mean that they're immediately my friends, right?
I ran downstairs and grabbed a piece of toast.
"Liza!"
My mom called out as I ran out the door and into the snowy outside. I ran onto the sidewalk, which was cleared of snow, thankfully. I would've slipped and fallen if someone hadn't. While running, I chowed down the piece of toast I grabbed earlier on the way to school.
I love walking to school in the morning. I always pass by the Bridge, where I can see people walking. I always wondered what it was like across the Bridge. This one time I saw someone trying to cross the Bridge and then get held back the Priests and Priestesses. He looked like he was drooling too. It was disturbing. That was the first time I'd ever gotten somewhat close to a person from the other side of the Bridge.
However, today was different. No one was there. No one was passing by and no one was waiting there. It was completely silent too. Not a sound could be heard. Only the sound of the snow crunching under my feet as I walked.
"Liza! There you are. I was wondering when you'd show up at school."
"I was here yesterday Kara."
"I know, but still! I didn't see you all day yesterday is what I'm trying to say."
That's my best friend, Kara Clementine. She's in one of my classes, which is Water/Ice class, but that's about it. Normally, we'd walk home together since we're neighbors, but she had after school practice yesterday so we missed each other. Of course, I did try to invite her for dinner yesterday, but her mom said that she was busy doing homework.
We walked to school together the rest of the way. Kara continuously complained about having to do her homework, of which I had finished the day we got it. I would just listen and laugh at the occasional stupid comments she made.
"Girl, you have no idea how hard Metal class is for me!"
"No, I don't. I specialize in Fire, Water/Ice, and Levitation magic, you know that."
Kara nodded as she crossed her arms and hunched her back. I giggled as we arrived at school.
"Hey! Liza! You're good at levitating, so why didn't you just fly here?!"
Great. Sydney Winthrop. Of course, he'd be here to hassle me.
"Ignore him, Liz. He's just jealous of your magical ability. You can use three different types, while we can only use two."
I nodded in agreement as Kara and I walked past Syd.
After that, the day went just like any other. Well, at least it did until I got to the Bridge on the way home. Kara had after school practice again and wasn't with me. I stopped and stared at a group of kids. They were leaning against one of the pillars all the while staring at me. Their mouths moved and another boy approached them.
The boy had unusual black hair, but I couldn't make out his eye color or any facial features. However, that boy... he somehow... intrigued me. He intrigued me to the point of forgetting it began to snow.
Just as it began to snow, it started to rain all around him, soaking him. As the other kids ran to cover, he stood there, staring at me in return to my staring. As I stood, snow began to cover my shoulders, head, and feet.
Suddenly, someone ran up to the boy and grabbed his attention. Together, the two of them ran off behind some buildings and out of my sight. I sighed as I turned away and continued down the road to my house.
