Magic Academy Rule Number One
On my way to school today, I stopped by the Bridge again. Some people were walking by, but... not that boy from yesterday. I wanted to see him. His unusual black hair. I want to talk to him. I was staring at him, but why was he staring at me?
When I got to school, Syd was there to pick on me again. Thankfully, I was able to ignore him once again and make my way to my first class of the day. You see, the other students take two main course classes, while I take three. Each main course is specified for one element. Fire, Water/Ice, Electricity, Metal, Earth, Lava, Wind, Energy, Light, and in my case, also Levitation. There are also side courses. They teach you the origins of certain elements. Of course, there is one class that teaches you about the other side of the Bridge. I, myself, am in that class.
Here at the Magic Academy, we have a set of rules that we all must follow. If we do break one or multiple of these rules, you will be kicked out and made into a Regular. That is the worst thing that could possibly happen to any Unique. Being a Unique is an honor, and so, becoming a Regular is an enormous dishonor. There are three main rules.
#1. You must NOT attempt to cross the bridge or river.
#2. Do not make any contact, whatsoever, with any Regular, family or not.
#3. Never use magic for evil, or to cause harm to another.
Note: We teach Magic for the reason of helping someone. We do not use magic to harm or kill anyone. If you are to break any of these rules, you will be made a Regular. If you break more than one rule, you will hereby be sentenced to death.
Everyone must beware of these rules. As it states, if you are caught breaking the rules, then you will be punished. I am very strict about keeping myself within these rules. As is everyone I know.
"Liza. What do you want for dinner tonight?"
My mom asked me as she entered my room. I looked at her and rose an eyebrow.
"Well, your father said that he won't make it, so I decided that I'd let you decided what we do for dinner."
I eventually told her spaghetti, but she didn't look like she was satisfied with my answer. She left my room and began to cook the meal I requested.
I sat on my bed, staring at the still falling snow outside. Oh! I forgot to say, but you can see the Bridge from my bedroom window. Normally, no one is there at this time of day, but... I still like to look over. I always like to look at the Bridge. It's basically become a part of my everyday life.
I can also see a huge cherry tree from my window. Only ever so often I would see two people approach it. When I was seven, I used to see three people. Two children and an older one. I can never tell if they're male or female, but I like to think that they're guys.
"Dinner will be ready in a few minutes guys!"
Wait! No way! Those two people are back! Man, I HAVE to go see what they look like! I won't break any of the rules, I'll just look at them.
"Mom! I'm going out for a bit, save me some dinner!"
"But Liza-"
My mom called out to me, all the while I ran downstairs and out the door. My curiosity is killing me! I have to know what the other side people look like!
The girl ran and ran. She ran until she came to the very edge of the river. In front of her, stood a tall cherry tree. Underneath that Cherry Tree, were two boys. One had short black hair, while the other had hair as blue as the sky. They sat underneath the Cherry Tree, talking without a care in the world. She listened.
"Dev, do you think that my parents will stop fighting eventually?"
"Of course. It's probably just a phase married couples go through."
She inched closer to the edge of the river as she listened closely to what the two boys were discussing.
"Okay, if that's just phase, then I'll change the subject."
"Hmm?"
"What about that girl that you were staring at earlier? That white hair of hers was entrancing, wasn't it?"
The black haired boy slowly nodded as he stared up and into the branches of the Old Cherry Tree.
"Yeah, it was."
"Ha! I knew it! Dude, you know that we can't make any contact with the Uniques! Stop being so interested!"
"I can't help it. I've never seen anyone like her before."
"Hey! Whoa, whoa whoa! You're not saying you like this chick, are you?!"
"No. That's not it. It's not that I like her, she just... intrigues me somehow."
"Dude, what the hell?! You got me all worried for nothing!"
The two chuckled as the conversation ceased.
Inch by inch she moved closer. Closer and closer to the edge. One misstep and the girl tumbles. A large splash rang out as she fell into the dark, cold water.
The river. Freezing to the point of death. Deep enough that the bottom cannot be seen by the naked eye.
She struggles to stay afloat. The coldness of the water paralyzes her. She slowly sinks as she helplessly accepts her death.
