4 - Pain
{Trigger warning | Mature content}
When I reached my front door, I was hesitant to step inside and see what awaited me. Eventually, after swallowing the lump in my throat, I walked in, only to find mom waiting. Almost passed out on the couch with empty beer cans around her.
Mom came up to me, staring at me from head to toe. "where'd you get the coat?" She asked.
"I- I got stuck in the rain and-" before I could continue I got cut off by her yanking my hand and lifting it to examine this foreign garment.
"Ahh. I see now." She said, with disgust in her eyes. "Was my happiness not enough?" She asked while I looked at her confused. "Do you have to rob more families of their happiness, huh! You little slut" she continued.
I tried to comprehend, "I- I don't understand, mom wha-"
"Don't give me your innocent act. You were out seducing men, weren't you?" She said, as I shook my head and her grip got tighter on my wrist. "That could have been someone else's husband for all you know!"
She wore another disgusted look on her face and threw me down to the ground.
"Just go." She said. "I can't even look at you right now."
I scurried my way upstairs, getting into my room, not even bothered with a shower to warm my body. I threw Tae's coat to the ground and rolled up my pants, slitting my ankles while trying to forget the pain.
Did I take her happiness away? Am I the reason she can't be happy anymore? She's always so nice in the mornings but at night when I see her like this I know that I'm the one that stripped her of her joy.
I changed into dry clothes eventually falling asleep on the floor, paying no mind to the blood still dripping down to my feet. My body started warming up slowly.
It still burns more though, the spot she grabbed earlier. I can still feel the pain in my wrist, the pain that reminded me of her pain.
I caused her pain.
The next day I had woken up on the floor, flashing back to last night as her words kept ringing in my head. I went into the bathroom and looked at my eyes in the mirror, red and puffy from crying and my ankles swollen and throbbing.
I noticed that her car wasn't in the driveway. She must have left early for work. I, however, felt slightly at ease knowing that I could calmly get ready this morning. It's been a while since I've eaten breakfast before leaving home.
I wore high tops today to hide the marks from last night. With another long-sleeved shirt and leggings. Just as I was about to leave, I saw Tae's coat on the floor.
Looking at it just reminds me of last night all over again. Even though I'm grateful, I just want to get rid of it as fast as I can, so I got out a gift bag from the storage room and folded the coat neatly, placing it in the bag to give to him later.
When I got to school I decided to put in my earphones again. Even if there wasn't anything playing in them, it would hopefully reduce the urge for people to taunt me.
Sadly, it did not. Through my silent earpieces, I could hear the sharp remarks made towards me. Trying not to react, I slowly move my left hand into my pocket to emit apathy since my right hand was holding the bag with the coat inside.
As usual, I headed straight to class. This time there were a few people there before me, Tae being one of them. The sight of him makes me nervous all over again. After building enough courage, I walked up to him slowly and greeted him.
"Uhm... thank you for this." I said, to which he gave a faint smile and nodded lightly. He turned around and bent over to place the bag under his desk. While he was doing so, I couldn't help but stare at him. His dark hair falling to the side of his face as he leaned over, his slender legs bent and steady on the ground. As his arm reached underneath his desk and dropped the handle of the bag.
I was so immersed in his body and movements that I didn't realise I was staring. He went back to his original stance and noticed me gazing at his hands as he put them into his pocket, to which he bent over towards me to have his head at the level of my neck and locked up with his head slightly slanted. "Everything okay?" He asked in a concerned tone. before I could reply, we were interrupted by someone barging into the classroom
"Yah! V-Hyung! Where were you yesterday!"
It was Jungkook.
I stood there slightly relieved since Jungkook had just unintentionally saved me without even knowing. This dongsaeng just saved me from even more embarrassment! I'm sure I would have been stuttering an answer.
The underclassman rushed in to approach the classmate at my side, ultimately to form a loose fist to knock Tae on the head with his knuckles.
"Jungkookie! I'm sorry! I was at Starbucks with y/n" Tae replied while rubbing the spot that got knocked, as I stood there a little shocked.
"You were on a date with noona?" He said in surprise. Not as surprised as me though.
Jimin, who was walking into class just then, had heard Jungkook's remark and said even louder and more shocked, "You went on a date with Y/N?!"
As they both looked at each other in slight disbelief, Tae and I shared a glance. When I looked at him I could see a bit of shock in his eyes. I guess that did mean nothing to him. In an attempt to calm them down and get the date idea out of their head, I raised both my hands up in the air and waved them in a denying motion.
"No! Not a date!" I confronted them, "we just bumped into each other then got stuck in because of the rain!"
Tae looked at me while I spoke as though I were telling a white lie. It was the truth though, just not the whole truth. He followed up after my words.
"Yeah! That's it! We just had coffee and waited for the rain to—" Tae Justified being interrupted by Jungkook.
"But V-Hyung! Do you know how hard it was to beat the zombies without you!" The younger whined about a video game they played together, clinging to the arm of the upperclassman like a child throwing a playful tantrum.
As I heard Jungkook whining I giggled a little bit and tried to reassure him. "Jungkook, I'm sorry! It's my fault!" I said, still giggling under my breath, "Tae only waited with me since I had no umbrella."
Jimin and Jungkook both look at me laughing, only to turn to Taehyung giving him a smug look and teasing him for being so caring. I hope I didn't make things awkward for him since he started rubbing his fingers nervously.
Speaking of awkward situations, just as a group of girls walked in. Ahreum included, she pushed past the whining Jungkook to replace his stance, rubbing herself on Tae as though she's trying to leave her scent on him, glaring at me from time to time. I knew exactly what that meant and took this chance to leave the conversation and go to my desk.
<Jimin POV>
I watched as Kookie was flung out of the way. She grabbed his arm and pushed him towards my side of the room. It's a good thing I was there to catch him.
Ugh. This girl. Look at her flaunt over Taehyung, caressing his arm with her long nails that are faker than her, you'd swear she types on her phone just to make that irritating sound.
I placed my hand on Jungkook's shoulder after he got his balance back.
"Kookie, you should head to class, homeroom's about to start." I said to Jungkook to which he sighed.
"Right. I'll see you at lunch" he said apathetically, fist-bumping me before he left.
I looked over at Taehyung, still disgusted at the falseness being emitted by the swine that dares touch him. If you look close enough, you can see how he's just tolerating her, his eyes don't crease properly at the corner when he smiles. He's way too nice to tell her to back off or anything.
As I went over to my seat trying to avoid bumping into the two, I saw y/n sitting with her head down. She was just talking to us, I wonder what's up.
『After lunch』
<Y/N POV>
It may just be my imagination but I can sort of feel more eyes on me now than ever before. As I walk through the halls I feel cautious and carefully decide my next move and action.
I just suddenly feel so self-conscious. Earlier, when I stepped into the bathroom, the conversation died, which means that people were talking about you, right? Shouldn't the 'new girl' hype have died down by now?
I walked back to class just before lunch could end, obviously feeling uncomfortable with the glares I felt. I approached the door when suddenly I heard Jimin and Tae's voices from inside.
"Yeah, apparently, she sleeps around a lot too. I guess that's why she doesn't talk to us much."
I heard Jimin say this.
When I heard this, I stayed still behind the door. I know that eavesdropping is wrong but I couldn't help but overhear and to interrupt would just be rude.
"What do you mean? Who told you this?"
Tae asked.
"I heard it from Mina, who said she heard it from Lisa, who said she heard it from Jungkook, who said HE heard it from Ahreum. Talk about a grapevine, right? I tried asking Jungkook too but he said he wasn't comfortable with the topic since y/n seems so nice. He didn't deny it though.." Jimin told him trying to sound persuasive.
I stood by the door, scared to listen in further. When I heard Ahreum, I got worried.
"How would Ahreum even know something like that?" Tae asked him.
"It probably comes with your family being a school sponsor. Doesn't change the fact that she slept with her father."
"It's just so hard to believe. Y/n sleeping around." Tae said. When I heard him say this, I was unsure whether it was disbelief or disgust I was hearing in his voice.
When a person faces something so extreme that even they can't comprehend it, they simply freeze. I stood there, frozen in place, unable to process what happened.
That's when it clicked. Why people were staring at me today, why I got evil glares from girls and smirks from the guys, why conversations would end upon my arrival. I broke into tears as I watched another peaceful year fly out the window. The thought of Taehyung hating me now fuelled even more tears and sobs.
Maybe I sobbed too loudly because I looked up and saw two pairs of eyes on me. Tae and Jimin standing at the door frame in shock, not expecting me to be there. My impulse was to run away but before, as would anyone else just wanting to get out of that situation, I uttered words out just before running, unsure why I needed justification.
"Just to let You know, I'm still a virgin"
