2 - Sleep Deprivation

{Trigger warning | Mature content}

Taehyung POV>

It was a normal day with the guys, except today, Y/n was here. She mentioned that she's going to the bathroom but she had been noticeably long. I sat there, eating the rest of my burger and staring at her leftovers, wondering if she'd still eat it when she came back. Without the guys noticing I ate some of her fries and accidentally finished them.

"She's taking pretty long." Jimin said as though he had read my mind.

"Yah! Hyung! You ate all her fries!" Jungkook noticed and pointed at me as though I were a suspect to a crime.

Shrugging it off, I stood up and chimed, "I'm gonna head to the bathroom real quick"
Considering the fact that Hobi-Hyung had started to verbally irritate Namjoon, I don't even think they noticed me leave.

"Namjoon-ahhh~! Listen to me talk about Mickey! He's the cutest puppy ever!"

I walked out of the cafeteria, looking around in case she passed me. I saw a girl walking out of the bathroom closest to the cafeteria and asked if there was anyone else in there. She told me that it was empty and so I repeated this same process with the other bathrooms in the area.

She was nowhere to be found. I eventually went back to the cafeteria before the guys wondered where I went.

When the bell rang for class, I walked in and saw y/n stirring in her sleep. Slightly relieved to have finally found her. I was tempted to wake her up and ask why she left, but she looked so peaceful. Mr. Min didn't mind if we slept in class so I made no attempt to wake her up, neither did Jimin.

I watched as he taught his next lesson and y/n stirred more in her sleep, eventually waking up. Trying to focus on the lesson, she began rummaging for a pencil in her bag.

Her pencil was cute, it had this little butterfly-shaped eraser on the end of it. I watched as she lethargically took notes.

When the class was over, she stayed still, scribbling in her book when I walked up to her trying to strike up a conversation and said, "that's a cute eraser." But she stayed quiet.

<Y/N POV>

"That's a cute eraser." I heard him say it. I heard him. But I wasn't sure whether it was worth responding to. I stayed quiet as his usually bubbly aura fell into confusion.

Shrugging off the glare that was shot at me by Ahreum in front, I stood up from my desk and walk away as though I didn't hear. He knew I did, she knew I did, but the last thing I need is for more beef with people.

The day finally ended as I walked home with my headphones in but nothing playing. I know I shouldn't care but I listened to people's remarks as I walked passed, them not knowing I could hear.

I ignored Tae as he called out to me. I don't know why but the sound of his voice infected me. I expected him to try to catch up but I heard 'her' voice. I stared at my feet as I continued walking along, Not understanding why I was upset.

I got home..... no, entered my empty house, nobody waiting to welcome me back. This was nothing new though. I went straight up to my room and fell asleep, trying to avoid thinking about today.

I was awoken later that night by my mom banging the door as she entered, probably drunk. I guess she had a frustrating day. That makes two of us. She went straight to her room as I heard her mumble words to herself. While I breathed in deep, fighting the urge to do something stupid. I stayed awake, staring at my ceiling unable to sleep any further.

I hadn't slept throughout the night. I'm not exactly sure what time my sleep broke, but all I know is that the sun took forever to rise.

I went into the bathroom, letting the water run while brushing my teeth as I looked into the mirror, examining my sleep-deprived eyes.

I heard the floors outside the bathroom creak now knowing that my mom was awake. When she roughly knocked on the door.

"Hey Kid, don't let the water run!" She said monotonously sing the hangovers make her apathetic. I immediately closed the tap, getting straight into the shower, not wanting to have a run-in with her. I managed to leave the bathroom quietly and put on a long-sleeved hoodie and another pair of jeans and sneakers.

Getting to school this time, I was too tired to process the giggles that took place around me. I walked straight into class early, of course being the only one there. I napped on my desk for a few minutes when I heard people laughing in the hall.

I quickly took out my notebook and started doodling in it, pretending I was awake the entire time. I heard them walk in. I glanced up to see Ahreum and her friends, as I looked down quick enough, not having my gaze noticed.

She saw me sitting alone and used this opportunity to her benefit. She walked up to my desk and turned around the chair in front of my desk to face me, as she sat down.

"You know, yesterday you really pissed me off." She spoke, "not only do you get Taehyungie-Oppa to talk to you because of some dumb pencil, but then you wanna play hard to get. Although I guess you're used to playing around with men like that, I bet you were 'daddy's little girl'"

My droopy eyes shot open when I heard the emphasis placed on that last part. I heard her condescending laugh stop as Tae and Jimin walked in, Ahreum leaving me to hold onto Taehyung's arm as though it were a clutch bag.

I stayed quiet with my head down as I listened to her flirting with Taehyung. I sat there trying to figure out why it bothered me so much, when the bell rang for roll call, ridding me of my thoughts. Soon after, the first class had begun.

Today we started with Home Economics taught by Mr. Kim Seokjin. I looked forward to this, as cooking was something I enjoyed. We moved to the classroom kitchen as we each put on an apron shortly after arrival.

We were told to work in pairs. Everyone ran to the person they worked best with, I watched Ahreum push Jimin out of the way, clasping on Tae's arm.

With me being a new student, the class now had an odd number of students. I told Mr. Kim that I don't mind working alone but he insisted that I join one of the pairs.

"I would offer to work with you, but I'm afraid it isn't fair to cook with this beautiful face while the others can't." he said.

I looked at him and said, "I see...." not knowing how to reply to this narcissistic comment. He was a handsome teacher nonetheless.

Tae then jumped in and said, "she can join me!"

Ahreum quickly ran up to him and said, "I thought we were working together."

Mr. Kim then interjected her and said that I can work with them, making it 3 people.

Whilst cooking, Tae kept making funny remarks at me while I chuckled under my breath. Ahreum kept pushing me out of the way and laughed along with Tae as if he were talking to her.

"I'm gonna get the colander to strain the rice." I said, not wanting to get in their way.

"Oh, I'll help" Ahreum responded. Like you really need two people to carry a colander.

In the pantry, she started talking to me.

"Yah, did our conversation from earlier mean nothing to you? I know why a bitch like you is here. Because of your dad, right?"

I looked up at her in shock, "how did you—"

"See, when you have people in high places, you know things. So stay away or the entire school is gonna know about your 'little adventure' with daddy"

She walked away, calling out to Tae in a seductive way, as I excused myself from Mr. Kim's class to go to the bathroom.

I had no blade with me, but I looked at the cuts on my arm and scratched at them viciously until my entire arm became red. I rolled down my sleeve and went back to class, ignoring everything Tae said to me.

The day soon ended and I walked home with my headphones in yet again, just trying to forget this awful day. Maybe it's because I was sleep-deprived, but something didn't sit right with me when I walked out of that school.

I guess HomeEc isn't something I enjoy anymore.

I walked home, when I saw my mom's car in the driveway. I walked into the house and the stench of her perfume caught my throat.

"Oh, sweetie, you're back. How was school"

She's looking better. I shrugged my shoulders and said, "okay I guess."

"I'm going out drinking with my friends tonight. Make sure to fix yourself some dinner hun" she said, as she left, trying to hide the freshly added hickey on her neck.

I let out a deep sigh as I went to clear my head at the only place I knew how. Starbucks. One caramel macchiato was all it took and it felt like my worries would be lifted off my shoulders.

I walked through a dog park, playing with all the fur babies running around when I realised that it was getting late.

I strolled home and saw Mom's car parked in the driveway. She was home earlier than I expected. This was never a good sign. As I walked in, this time the stench of perfume was replaced by the smell of booze.

When mom gets drunk, she isn't her usual self. Rather, she's her real self. When she's sober and happy with the love she's getting at work, she's clouded by thoughts of happiness and lust, whereas when she's drunk, it's as though a switch gets flipped in her and her mindset becomes more real and opinionated.

She often thinks too much about my dad and how perfect our life was before any of this happened. When a person gets drunk, it's as though their true self and desires come out.

I slowly closed the door, trying to avoid a confrontation with her knowing that it wouldn't be good. In an attempt to tiptoe passed her, the floor creaked and her attention was shot right at me.

"YAH! Where were you! Do you know what time it is?" She said, being wasted, not bothering to hide the evidence of her affair.

"I was at the park" I replied, softly.

"You... You think you can be happy while I'm not?" She said grabbing my arm.

"I— no, that's not—"

"I can't believe I felt sorry for a snot-nosed brat like you who doesn't even respect her mother." She said as she pushed me to the floor. With every complaint she had, she kicked again with her stiletto heel.

"My husband wanted to fuck my daughter more than his wife! How does it feel to be a homewrecker? HUH!? Tsk. I should have just left you with him, maybe then I could move on from this life without a liability like you." She yelled as I balled up covering my head.

We moved here to get a new start but nothing changed it seems. She's still the same woman that's only a mother when conditions are favourable.

My only thought was what Tae and the guys would think if they heard about this. They would treat me the same as my 'mother'. The same as the people in my old school. They would look at me with such disgust in their eyes.

As she walked into the kitchen to pour herself another glass of wine, my mind was still shrouded with these thoughts as I heard the words leave her mouth which put all my thoughts at a halt. I heard it glide past her teeth as though they meant nothing. A word that I had only been called by the bullies at my old school.

Homewrecker didn't hurt that much since I've never felt like I've had a place to call home in the first place, but hearing it come out of her mouth like it was nothing. That's what hurts the most.

I eventually tried to get up, stumbling into the shower thinking back to her words as it echoed and repeated in my head like a broken record.

"Slut"

I got a blade out from the cupboard and slowly started to make cuts on my arm. Slowly, so that I could feel every inch of pain. She had brought back this traumatic incident that I tried so hard to forget. With each thought I made a new grove, eventually breaking into silent sobs, dropping the piece of cold metal that I gripped so tightly in my hands.

I slid down the wall and crouched into a ball, hugging my knees with nothing but salty droplets falling from my swollen eyes as they blended in with the water falling rapidly from the showerhead.
