OK SO ANOTHER AU BABY

MASSIVE WARNINGS:

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DEATH NOTE MAYBE? Idk I changed like 90% of it but like one or two of the bigger things stayed the same

THERE IS NO MISA X LIGHT OR MISA X REM IN THIS AU. Especially not misa x rem and you will VERY quickly see why. I do apologize to the lesbians.

OK SO AU TIME YIPPEE

"Let the corporations make the regulations, and hold no one accountable when everything goes wrong."

Let's start with our main character, Light.  Surely he would be Iris, right?  Because Iris would want to balance the world, similar to Light?  And would eliminate anyone who got in his way? 

It's a perfect match, right??

WRONG.

Well, technically it is right.

But in this AU my Light actually has a different motive and everything because this AU is meant to be hella experimental. So...

Without further ado...

Tristan is Light Yagami.

"Ace what the hell" you may be thinking. We'll HEAR ME OUT.

In this AU the first half of Tristan's lore is the same. Unlike Light, his dad left, mom died, and he's been struggling to get by. Tristan knows the unfairness and hardships the system causes. And it angers him.  So instead of targeting criminals, he targets corrupt people in power. He also isn't trigger happy with it, he's methodical. Tristan is blinded by his anger which leads him to be detached from his murders.

"They're only human, after all."

So someone had to have given Tristan the Death Note right? Or dropped it into the human world.

Also a MASSIVE NOTE: In this AU, all shinigami were once human and are what happens when the transition to the afterlife gets all fucky fucky. And if you used a death note during your life, you automatically reincarnate as a shinigami.

Okay so you're probably wondering who the death note belongs to because in the original story it's Ryuk's- a shinigami who solely seeks entertainment and is an apple addict. Aka the most unserious bastard in the show.

Except in this AU he is HELLA serious.

HELL YEAH BIRD STOLAS IS BACK YALL

Except this time he's a vulture because vultures are associated with death. And yes that skull is melded into his shoulder teehee.

In this au, Stolas is one of those shinigami who was a Death Note user in his life (he lived during the 1800s or so, so he's like two hundred years old). Stolas sought to deliver justice through the Death Note, only to realize the true horrors of his actions and the notebook.  Upon dying and understanding his actions were twisted, he decided that "hey, it was just me, so how about we try again?" and dropped his death note in hopes that someone with a better understanding of justice would find it.

In the end, Stolas is the one to kill Tristan by writing his name in his shinigami death note (shinigami have two death notes, one humans can use and one the shinigami uses to write the name of the death note owner). Stolas realized that Tristan was too blinded by his anger and that it was Stolas's own fault that things got this far. So he put an end to it.

L TIME BABY

I don't have much of a dramatic intro for this one because yall probably know who it's gonna be because of the infamous Lawlight ship soooo

I like to think of L!Iris as Iris if he got disowned. Hella depressed but less insane and smart as shit. He also looks a bit like a child which throws people off more.

His perfectionist nature does lead to him being able to pick up super tiny details. Also Tristan is genuinely nervous around him because Tristan isn't a fucking psychopath like light who's insanely overconfident.

Speaking of Tristan being nervous, I didn't draw it out, but Soichiro (Light's dad and the head of the police force) is Sam from Howd'ya Do. He's like a father figure to Tristan for reasons I don't know yet but Tristan is a nervous WRECK because he's the guy the police force is after. So he's always like "Man Sam this Kira guy sounds bad I hope we find him soon"

MISA MISA TIMEEEE

I decided to go with the pop star version of Misa from the musical because I liked it better for this character tbh

This Misa was SUPER excited to meet Kira for reasons I'll explain in a second, but when she met him and realized Tristan was a boy she was DISAPPOINTED. Cause she heard the name and assumed it would be a girl. Oopsie daisy.

That's right, Ryn is Misa!

Ryn and her brother started out as just her singing and him playing the guitar, but she was lucky enough that she rose to fame and obviously kept her favorite guitar player. She never let the fame get to her head and enjoyed writing her own music and performing to show her brother what she could do. Unfortunately, he died in an accident protecting her from a crazy stalker, and after that she struggled for a while.  Because every time she turned to smile at the guitarist after that, she had to remember all over again that this was a different guitarist who replaced her brother.

However, when Kira killed the guy who killed her brother, she became determined to meet and thank him for giving her brother's murderer what he deserved.

"Never turns out quite the way that you planned it, love makes you break all the rules."

So first of all this is where I want to reiterate that unlike in death note there is NO ROOM to interpret Rem x Misa as a ship. This is NOT a ship.

Second, remember when I said people can reincarnate into shinigami through pure accident? Well this is what happened to the character I put as Rem.

SO THIS IS WHY I SAID NO REM X MISA.

Stratus is Rem in this AU. After being killed by Ryn's stalker, he found himself in the shinigami world where he met Stolas. At first, Stratus was uninterested in going to the human world until he realized he could watch his sister. And on top of that, he realized that if he gave her his death note, she could see him.

So he left his death note on her backstage vanity or something, where she found it. Upon touching it, she was able to see her (slightly changed) brother. This didn't gaze her and she was overjoyed to see him again, telling him about how she wants to meet Kira. Stratus mistakenly tells her about the shinigami eyes, which Ryn begs him for and Stratus is for to give to her in exchange for half her remaining lifespan.

In this au, Stratus is very reflective of love and how it drove him to get himself killed for his sister, but how he would never change that if he was given the chance.

It's also what leads him to eventually make Ryn forfeit the death note he gave her. Because Ryn is imprisoned and low key tortured upon being suspected of having the second death note (kind of, the authorities don't really know about the murder notebook yet), Stratus realizes that she will only be safe if she can't remember. Of course, forfeiting the death note means she will forget that she ever saw him again, but he loves her enough to know that this way will ensure her safety. And that's when he fully understands what love is, as he bids farewell to his sister once more.

Up close of his design. He's based on a hyena, once again associated with death. However, hyenas are also pack animals, similar to his bond with Ryn. Also, hyenas symbolize ferocity, stamina, cleverness, and escapism.

Other characters!

First, Will is a former FBI agent who wants to talk to Iris and help because he might have a lead. Will's fiancé was killed by Kira (Zeben was an FBI agent involved in a plan that was bad or something for Tristan, idk, maybe something to do with immigration. But either way Tristan got MAD and killed Zeben plus his whole squadron). Upon finding out that Will was ALSO part of that squadron (I want to point out that Will and Zeben are good people but their assignment was morally questionable, whatever it may be), he kills Will too.
