69th part
Haha sorry I'm immature
Anyway up there is Daniel Howell's coming out video, and I suggest you watch it because it is
a.) Hella relatable
b.) Like actually it's really relatable
c.) I'm going to talk about it and you'll understand it better if you've watched it
Before all the other stuff I'm going to point out 42:07 to 42:19
SEE ACEPHOBES DAN FUCKING HOWELL DOESN'T WANT TO ASSOCIATE HIMSELF AS MUCH WITH THE COMMUNITY PARTIALLY BECAUSE OF YOU. DOES HE SAY "THESE ASEXUALS ARE CAUSING SO MUCH DRAMA? N O HE SAYS A C E P H O B E S ARE CAUSING IT. YOU HYPOCRITES
I also want to also mention Eugene's video which is right down there
https://youtu.be/qpipLfMiaYU
Because amongst the insane talent that went into this video (I'm An AwFuL aSeXuAl WhO mAkEs EvErYtHiNg AbOuT tHeMsElF) at the end it says For The LGBTQIA+ Community, so aside from having a fucking amazing video dedicated to me (and all of us) HE INCLUDED ASEXUALS FUCK YOU ACEPHOBES
Anyway back to Dan's video, everything he says is So Relatable (as I said), but it's also really nice to have his humorous spin on stuff, because all his thoughts about sexuality are similar to mine (and probably a LOT of peoples'), so it's nice to be able to think about it like a Youtube I guess? Hopefully you get what I mean probably not but everything great!
Continuing...
I think it starts at 24:58 or so ESPECIALLY 25:11, and it puts what I've been feeling into words. It basically says that when someone comes out to you, don't make it about yourself because that's not at all the reason they're having the conversation. Also personally, when people do that I'm not sure they commit the fact that I'm ace to memory because It'll be like
"I'm ace"
"Uh huh yeah we could tell, so anyway back to what I was saying..."
Like it's great and all when people don't make a big deal about it, but tbh I okay with someone making a big deal about it if it's a good big deal. Then I know you're supporting, don't see me differently, and that you will remember I'm ace. People don't understand how much more comfortable I become if they ask me to explain it because then I know how much they know
People's knowledge of asexuals ranges from "Yeah we learned about asexual reproduction in science class," to "yeah, that means you don't feel sexual attraction which is different from being aromantic, and also asexuality has nothing to do with libido or people's ability to make dirty jokes."
28:52 "LET'S JUST TRY TO MAKE SOCIETY A WELCOMING PLACE AND PEOPLE WILL COME OUT WHEN THEY'RE READY"
There have been so many people who say that I should tell me family I'm ace because I'm not in danger or anything. MY FUCKING BEST FRIEND said I was making a bigger deal about coming out than it needed to be. I've always had and still do have internalized acephobia and I'm asexual. How am I supposed to expect people who aren't ace to see me? Besides, it's an awkward as hell conversation that I can get by without having
29:48 "If I'd seen better representation in the media, I wouldn't have felt so totally alone." Cough cough RIVERDALE. Anyway, that is why we need representation because it does actually matter, especially when you're trying to understand sexuality. I messaged so many people on Wattpad who had asexual in the bio (description? I'm not sure what it's called on wattpad) and they didn't reply until... shoutout to @yourbrothersteph for actually fucking replying. And @Lollys133, but Steph was first (Love you two (and everyone else who's reading this because 1 in 100 feels a lot bigger without the internet and I felt like I was 1 in a billion))
33:33 "the writhing mass of confusion and suffering that is sexuality and gender identity" No rant, that's just relatable
35:05 It's kind of long to quote so just go there but DAN SUPPORTS MICROLABELS FUCK OFF GATEKEEPES
That's all, but if you haven't, you should definitely see the video if you haven't yet
