Chapter Thirteen
I ran to Ryder's house. My legs were tired by the time it got there but the rest of me didn't seem to notice. My hair was all matted and wind swept. My clothes were messy and out of place.
Ryder was at the house when I opened the door. I didn't both with knocking or saying hello.
"They're going to kill Ace!" I cried
"Huh?" Ryder got to his feet. He placed his book down on the table and walked towards me. "What are you talking about?"
"I over heard these men talking about some hunters that tried to kill a wolf but he disappeared and now he's back and they're going to kill him!" I had tears rolling down my face. He stopped to think.
"We'll go out tonight," he nodded, thoughtfully "We'll meet outside my house," He told me. I nodded and, for the longest time, stood doing nothing but sobbing, softly.
When I got to his house it was dark out and he was standing outside, clad in a long jacket. I brought the oil lamp I'd bought for Lily and wore my warmest clothes.
"You ready to go?" He asked
"Yeah," I replied "We'll start where we found him and make our way up the mountains,"
And so, after hours of useless searching in the cold, we gave up and went home. I snuck into the house, without Lily waking up, and went to bed. What I didn't know was that, in the morning, I'd discover something far worse then Ace's disappearance...
