CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER THREE
BROTHER DEAREST
"waters sweet, but blood is thicker"
˚✧₊*⁎⁺˳✧༚

At this very moment Cara Jenkins deeply regretted letting Myles Dooley convince her to go out with Elijah. She was horrible at small talk, and ridiculously awkward when interacting with the male species. And considering the situation at hand, she was especially awkward. But Myles was right; the easiest way to stay in control was to keep an eye on the situation, even if it meant going out with Elijah and entertaining this new found obsession the spell had given him.

Still, Cara regretted letting herself convince.

She was currently letting Myles help her get ready for the upcoming 'date'. Elijah hadn't really given her any details of where he was taking her, so she was trusting that Myles could dress her for any occasion. Cara wasn't especially stressed out for the night, but she could feel a fluttering feeling in the pit of her stomach. It was certainly not butterflies, that much she knew, she was simply excited to see where the night would lead her. She had never been on an actual date before, so she was rightfully excited. Even if she wasn't particularly interested in her 'escort' for the night.

"This is stupid." Cara sighed, staring intently at her reflection in the mirror. Cara loved dressing up and putting on a pretty face of makeup, but tonight was different. No matter how she styled her hair, and no matter how many times she redid her eyeliner, she still felt out of place. "I should just call of this whole thing."

"Stop it." Myles groaned at her, pulling at her hair.

     "Stop what?"

"Stop being a bitch. You're going on a date with a handsome looking guy. Let loose, go crazy, have fun." Myles advices her. "You're always working so hard to make ends meet. Just enjoy yourselves tonight."

"Trust me, I would love to. But sitting at an restaurant, eating some fancy dinner, isn't going to solve this problem. I should be trying to come up with solutions. This isn't just some random guy I put a spell on. It's Elijah freaking Mikaelson. And where there is one original, there is bound to be others. I should be spending my time trying to reverse this before one of his siblings come after me!" Cara ranted. Myles simply shrugged.

"You can spend tonight regretting your mistakes and trying to fix everything, or you could accept what has been done and spend this one night make the best out of the situation. Going on this date isn't going to kill you, and you're not going to fix this thing overnight either." Sometimes Myles could give the best advice. Cara greatly appreciated him.

"You're right." She nodded. "You're right. I should just try enjoying myself tonight. And then I'll be back to my normal self tomorrow. I mean, it's not like the problems going away. It'll be waiting for me till I get back."

"Yup." Myles agreed, popping the 'p'. "Now let's do something about your hair."

Cara had been spending all night trying to both find an antidote to her potion and to try figuring out how two teeny tiny drops had this big of an affect in Elijah. She had reread the recipe about a thousand times before realizing what she had done. Cara had completely overlooked a key ingredient, a neutralizer. It was suppose to make sure that the potion wasn't as strong. But of course, being her ditzy self, Cara and managed to overlook that small little detail. And now, she was paying for the consequences of it.

"Ouch!" The Jenkins girl called out after Myles accidentally tugged harshly on a piece of her hair.

"Sorry!" Myles chuckled, continuing to work on her apparance.

Meanwhile Cara was getting ready for the evening ahead, Elijah Mikaelson was standing in his room, glancing at his own reflection.

"Where are you going, dear brother?" Niklaus Mikaelson, Elijah's brother, wondered out loud. He was leaning against the wall across from where Elijah was standing, watching in amusement as his brother tried straightening out his suit.

"Nowhere that concerns you. . ." Elijah replied as he turned to face his brother.

The Mikaelsons was an odd family. They cared for each other like no other, but if any of them happened to step out of line, Niklaus had no problem stabbing a dagger in their backs. Literally.

Niklaus was the fourth child of the siblings, Elijah was older. Klaus had a god complex and anger issues, just to mention two of a long list of issues he had. Yet Elijah cared for him dearly. After all, they had been alive for a thousand years, and had stuck together all this time.

In contrast to his brother, Elijah was a noble and honest man. He was also very caring, especially when it came to his brother and his sister Rebekah. He was also the one who held Klaus responsible for his actions. Like now; Klaus had crazily enough managed to knock up some werewolf girl, and he was refusing to deal with it. The witches of New Orleans was holding the girl 'hostage', and Elijah appeared to be the only one who even cared. Even with how Marcel was running things now, it was like Klaus didn't care about anything anymore.

Elijah was busy enough handling his own business, let alone with handling Klaus'.

Of course Elijah didn't know about the pregnant werewolf yet. He had barely even had time to see his brother with the whole Cara Jenkins thing going on. Not to worry, Elijah was bound to find out sooner or later. . .

But, Klaus wasn't going to ruin his mood. Not tonight. Elijah had no idea why, but ever since he had walked into that coffee shop, the only thing on his mind had been Cara Jenkins. Her soft features, her enchanting brown eyes, her beautiful hair. Everything about her down to the last detail drove him insane. The sweet perfume she had been wearing was still stuck in his nostrils, and all he wanted to do was to smell her sweet scent again.

After he had seen her for the first time, he was determined to see her again. His first idea had been to return to her workplace. Maybe she was working. He hadn't expected to see her with some guy when he arrived, and in all honesty it made him kind of angry. Maybe even a tad bit. . . jealous? No, he wasn't a jealous guy. It was probably something entirely different he had been feeling.

Elijah was sure he had scared her off by being too forward, and he had decided he needed to apologise for it. But when he had showed up and could literally hear the thumping of a second heart inside of her apartment, his blood had started to boil again. Even more so when some guy interrupted their conversation. He was tall, lanky with shaggy brown hair. Elijah wasn't sure of what the story behind their relationship was, he simply knew that he didn't like the boy. But he had quickly forgotten all about him when Cara had decided she would go out with him.

Elijah was ecstatic, filled with glee, over the moon. There weren't enough words in this world to describe just how happy her 'yes" made him. He had never felt this way before, not in his thousands of years living. He was all mushy and happy on the inside. Klaus could tell something was up.

"Any where my brother goes, is a somewhere that concerns me." Klaus barked at his brother, venom laced in his words. Klaus was growing tired of his noble brother trying to control his decisions, and even more so of the fact that he was knowingly keeping something from him. The younger one of the two hated being lied to, and right now, Elijah was keeping something from him. Determind to find out what, Klaus continued to press him on the matter. "I demand you tell me where you're going right now."

Elijah sighed loudly in annoyance, tightening his red tie. "I'm sorry, dear brother, but I must leave. I'll be back tonight."

Before Elijah could leave, Klaus forced him to stand still by showing his hand into Elijah's shoulder. "You're not going to see those witches again, are you?"

Elijah removed his brother's hand from his shoulder, dusting it off. "No, brother. Not everything I do revolves around you, shockingly enough. Now if you'll excuse me." Klaus watched his brother go in suprise, never really received this. . . attitude from him before. That's when he realized that something really odd was up with his brother, and he was going to find out.

And oh boy was he in for quite the suprise.

Klaus lingered back in Elijah's room, trying to recall the last time he had acted this way. You'd think after spending that many years together that they knew everything about each other. Anyone else would've dropped the subject, letting their brother live his life, but not Klaus. He was terribly suspicious and cautious. After being hunted down by a certain someone his entire existence, he had learnt to be careful. Elijah withholding any type of information just wouldn't go. He had to find out what he was up to, which is why he decided to follow him. . .

Elijah Mikaelson had never been a date before.

Yes, he had been living for about a thousand years, and yes, he had been with women before. But he had never found himself settling to the point where he'd dare to ask someone out. Sure, he had been in love before, but he rarely needed to work for it. His charms alone always worked, and the women usually chased him. But something about Cara made him want to chase her. It made him want to ask her out on a date. He wanted to impress her.

Rebekah Mikaelson was the romantic one in the family. She was a 'serial dater', if you could call it that. Sadly enough, most of her love stories had tragic endings. Most of them thanks to Niklaus. Elijah always watched from the side lines, time and again witnessing his sister's heartbreak. And in all honesty, he had no interest in experiencing any of that. He knew just how painful heartbreak was, and he just didn't see it worth it to be disappointed and hurt all over again like his sister. Still, Rebekah kept going, searching for love wherever she could find it. Even if it meant she would get hurt every now and then.

Another thing Elijah had never really felt before? Nerves.

Standing outside of Cara's appartment complex with a single tulip in hand, Elijah was shuffling nervously on his feet. His stomach was carrying this weird feeling that he both hated and adored. It made him feel alive, but it also made him want to run away and never look back. And it was only intensified when the beautiful Jenkins girl stepped out on to the street.

With her wild curls cascading down her back, and her stunning body cladded in a curve hugging black slip on dress, Cara Jenkins looked absolutely breathtaking. He could feel his mouth go dry and his palms sweaty just by the sight of her.

"You look dashingly stunning." Elijah blurted before the girl even had time to greer him. Cara looked slightly taken back by the compliment, but quickly offered him a small smile.

"Thanks." She replied awkwardly. "So, where are we going?" Myles had coached her about how to behave and what to say, but truthfully none of that really mattered. Elijah was already hooked on her because of the potion, no matter what she said he would still be obsessed. Besides, it wasn't like she was this date to actually date him.

"I figured we'd go to this restaurant I know." Elijah started. "It's not too long of a walk from here." Cara nodded as the pair began wandering down the street. Elijah had searched on the internet for date ideas. He was clueless about it all, but according to the internet, a first date at a fancy restaurant was a hit.

The two began chatting back and forth as they headed towards their destination. Although Cara found comfort in the chit chat, she couldn't help but to grow nervous once she noticed just where they were headed. The French quarter was a grand spot for fancy restaurants. Her stomach churned as they continued wander further and further into Marcel Gerard's territory. She wasn't necessarily afraid of vampires. After all, she was a witch. But Marcel was something entirely different. He had a chokehold on the entire coven. Hell, he had even managed to run every last werewolf out into the bayou. And somehow he had a source that told him whenever one of the witches were using magic. That meant that if a vampire was about to lunge at her, Cara couldn't really do anything but let it happen.

The probability of someone spotting her and Elijah together was big as well. But fortunately witches of the coven rarely hung around the French quarter after sun set.

"I hope you like Italian." Elijah said as they arrived at a beautiful Italian restaurant.

Cara nodded. "Who doesn't?"

As the duo entered the restaurant they were oblivious to the third pair of eyes watching them carefully. Klaus stepped out from the dark alley once his brother and the girl disappeared into the dimly lit restaurant. Usually Klaus would send someone to stalk his brother for him, but seeing as Marcel was running things around town now, he had to be careful about his ways. But Klaus was glad he hadn't compelled some vampire to do his dirty work for him this time. He wasn't sure he could even believe his eyes.

"What have you gotten yourself into, brother dearest." Klaus whispered under his breath, continuing to watch the two for the remainder of the evening.
