thirteen || comfort in a storm
୨♡୧
"The weather seems horrible today," Chanhee sighed looking out the window which made Taehyun look over at him, he walked towards the pink head and looked out of the window seeing the angry grey storm clouds rolling in.
"Oh shit, make sure everyone didn't leave any instruments outside, it looks like there'll be a thunderstorm today," Taehyun said and looked at Chanhee who nodded and hopped off the chair, walking out of the classroom to warn the rest of the music students.
The male looked over at the storm clouds frowning slightly, today was his music class's special day to go outside and just relax while working on their music project but the weather just had to be annoying today, shaking his head he walked back over to his desk and looked down at the sheet of paper continuing to write on it.
The things that happened with Beomgyu yesterday seemed to stick onto him like a leech, he just felt so annoyed about the fact that Beomgyu would let people talk so bad about him without any consequences, did he not care at all? Shaking his head he heard the small sounds of taps on windows making him look over as raindrops finally came down.
"Thank god this is the last class of the day, right Taehyun?" He heard his classmate say, turning his head from the window he looked over and saw his friend Keeho walk over to him with a calming smile. "Hey Keeho," Taehyun greeted him as the blue-haired male walked over to him and looked out the window.
"How's your project going?"
"I honestly just have to put it into a computer and have Isa sing the lyrics," Taehyun said and picked up the piece of paper he had with lyrics on it and another paper that had music notes on it. He sometimes wondered why he became a music major, he loved music and all but he realized it wasn't for him sometimes. "Soul and I managed to finish our music, I wish you luck."
Taehyun nodded and thanked the male watching him wave goodbye and walk away. Looking out the window he heard another step of footsteps come near him making him look over his shoulder, and in an instant, his heart clenched up with panic as Yeojin approached him with a very delighted smile. "Ye-Yeojin?!" Taehyun gasped out surprised to see her, he knew she was also a music major but he thought she was always in the other building.
"Hey Taehyun, how are you?" She asked the male once she approached him closer. Taehyun's heart was bouncing all over the place inside of him, he swallowed up the lump in his throat and nervously smiled. "I'm f-fine! H-H-How are you h-haha?" BRO STOP STUTTERING-
Taehyun wanted to punch himself dead in the face right now, every time he would see Yeojin he would freak out and panic even though they would text each other every day, but something about texting someone and talking to them in real life is different somehow. He felt more confident over the phone than in person. "I'm great! I was passing by the music hallway so I decided to come to see what you guys were doing, I was so sad when I heard you guys had to come inside due to the upcoming storm!"
"Yeah, I was pretty upset as well." Taehyun sighed and leaned back onto the window, feeling the cold glass through his thin black shirt. He looked up and saw Yeojin just staring at him which made his face flush slightly, did he look silly? He didn't take the chance to dress himself up properly this morning.
"Taehyun-ah, you're very handsome." Yeojin smiled and backed up. "I have to go now, Sunghoon is waiting for me." She said and quickly walked out of the classroom, and call Taehyun delusional but he swore her ears were a red color when she walked away.
Slowly bringing his hand up to his heart he held his chest since he felt like he could collapse and fall at any given moment, he tried to calm his breathing down but he just couldn't! His crush just complimented him and it was the best. fucking. day. ever. He felt that he was on cloud 9 right now.
Looking over at the clock his daze was instantly knocked out when he realized Yeonjun would arrive in about two minutes and the elder had told him that if he was even a millisecond late he would take off without him and have Taehyun walk home instead, glancing at the window he saw the rain pick up harder which made him scurry to pack his things and out the door.
The moment he stepped outside it was like his body was stabbed a thousand times by tiny little cold daggers, it was freezing outside and the rain just got worse, his hair was blowing in the wind in multiple directions. Pulling his arms closer to himself for that tiny bit of warmth he looked around and saw the familiar black car pull up to the entrance gate making Taehyun bolt toward it.
Quickly getting in the passenger's side he threw his bag to the back and shut the door closed, huffing out loudly he leaned back into his seat and looked to the side seeing Yeonjun giving him a nasty look. "What?" He mumbled annoyed seeing the elder's face.
"You smell like fucking dog water," Yeonjun spat out and started up the car before he began driving off. Taehyun rolled his eyes heavily and just ignored what the elder had just said, leaning his head against the bumpy feeling window he closed his eyes for a minute trying to get some rest. The car ride with Yeonjun was always quiet, sometimes they would talk but the elder would give dry replies and even would get annoyed if Taehyun kept talking.
BOOM!
Taehyun quickly jolted awake and looked around terrified, the sudden loud noise woke him up from the nap he didn't even know he took, looking out the window it was, even, darker and the rain was hitting even more hard than before.
"Shit.."
Taehyun looked over at Yeonjun who had clear fear evidenced on his face, sitting up straight he watched Yeonjun quickly dial a number on his phone without looking as he waited for the other person on the line to pick up, after a few more seconds there no answer which made Yeonjun cuss even more.
Thankfully, it only took them ten more minutes until they arrived at the apartment building, Taehyun reached out to grab his backpack and went to open the door before being grabbed by Yeonjun which made him flinch. "Bro, let go," Taehyun hissed at the elder and looked back.
"Taehyun, I'm busy today, but you have to promise me if a blackout happens you have to immediately light the candles and fireplace," Yeonjun said in a strict tone which made him quite shocked, he tilted his head a little confused from the sudden demand. "Hyung-"
"Just do it! Now go, Im going to be late." Yeonjun said and threw an umbrella towards him, Taehyun slowly took it and got out of the car opening the umbrella up. Looking back at Yeonjun he watched the male quickly drive away leaving him all curious.
A blackout?

"Hyung?" Taehyun called out after entering through the door, the immediate smell of something very delicious greeted him the moment he did. Taking off his shoes he placed the umbrella on the shelf and walked over to the living room, tossing his backpack onto the couch as he looked over at the kitchen and saw Beomgyu with his back facing him, he saw the elder was focusing on cooking something on the stove.
Taehyun took a moment to just stare at Beomgyu's muscular look back, the redhead was just wearing a black sleeveless shirt paired with some matching black sweats. He could see some of Beomgyu's long red hair being tied back by a small hair tie and Taehyun wouldn't lie if he didn't say he felt his cheeks flush from the sight.
Beomgyu turned around and immediately made eye contact with Taehyun, and the moment he did a wide happy smile broke out on his once blank face. "Darling! You're back, i'm so glad you made it home safely through the upcoming storm. I'm almost done with your food so just sit down!" Beomgyu said and quickly walked over to Taehyun trying to hug the male.
The ombré head quickly backed away making Beomgyu frown slightly which was replaced with a small smile. Beomgyu walked back over to the kitchen and turned off the stove as Taehyun sat on the chair silently and watched the elder, he found it nice that Beomgyu made dinner for him right as he came back from school, but he wondered why he wasn't in his office or at the company right now.
He watched Beomgyu grab a glass cup from the cupboard and walk over to the fridge, just then the loud sudden noise of lightning struck down making the whole room shake causing Beomgyu to drop the glass cup which echoed out a painful shattering sound. "Shit-" He heard Beomgyu say as the male bent down.
"Hyung!-"
Taehyun suddenly paused as his vision went black and everything turned off, taking a few seconds he blinked rapidly as his eyes adjusted to the sudden darkness that surrounded the two. Listening closely he heard no sound from the elder which made him slightly nervous, grabbing his phone off of the counter he switched the flashlight on and rushed to the other side of the counter aiming the light at where Beomgyu once stood. Looking down he saw the elder kneeling with his hand extended out to the now shattered glass cup pieces everywhere.
"Hyung!" Taehyun gasped out and rushed over to the male as the sound of growling thunder and heavy raindrops crashed against the building, the sound of howling wind echoing out as the thunderstorm increased even more. Taehyun kneeled next to Beomgyu keeping the flashlight a bit away from him so he wouldn't go blind, "Beomgyu hyung?" Taehyun asked again after receiving only silence.
He looked over at Beomgyu and noticed the extremely terrifying expression the elder had on his face. Worry suddenly washed over Taehyun as he gently placed his phone down upwards so the light faced up so he could still see. Gently placing a hand on Beomgyu's shoulder making the shaky-eyed male look at him he frowned at the scared expression he saw.
"Hyung what's wrong? Did you hurt yourself?" Taehyun asked worriedly, he was trying to read Beomgyu's emotions like they were his thoughts but all he could get was that blank silent terrified look in his eyes, hearing the loud lightning crash again Taehyun looked over at the window barely had any light coming through due to the dark angry grey clouds that were formed in the sky. "Are you afraid of thunder?"
It took Beomgyu a few seconds to respond but once he did the male shook his head no which made Taehyun tilt his head a little, thinking about anything obvious he suddenly remembers the words Yeonjun had said to him before he had left.
"You have to promise me if a blackout happens you have to immediately light the candles and fireplace."
Taehyun slowly had a sudden wave of realization, quickly looking at Beomgyu he examined the male who was shakily looking around the house in fear. Those times when Beomgyu would go to sleep and not turn the lights off, the times where when Taehyun tried shutting off every light Beomgyu had always left one on, the time when he walked into his room and saw the brightest lamp to ever exist.
It wasn't the thunder or pain that made Beomgyu scared, none of that made the male terrified.
It was the dark.
Beomgyu was afraid of the dark.
"Hyung, are you afraid of the dark?" Taehyun asked him, even though he might've realized it and cracked the code he wanted a valid answer from the elder so he wouldn't assume anything. Beomgyu stared at him for a few seconds before weakly nodding. "I-It's pathetic, I know." Beomgyu weakly answered.
Taehyun frowned upon hearing that answer, slowly standing up he gently grabbed Beomgyu and pulled the male up making the elder confused. "Hyung, forget about the food or the broken glass. This is about you, it's okay to be afraid; we all have fears." Taehyun spoke softly as he stared into Beomgyu's frightened pink eyes.
"I-I can't...I need light Taehyun..." Beomgyu weakly said like he was on the verge of crying. Taehyun took this moment to walk over to the couch, dragging his hyung by the arm before pushing Beomgyu down making the male sit down which confused him slightly.
"Hyung, I'll comfort you," Taehyun spoke softly and gently placed a blanket on him that he found. Quickly walking away he went over to the fireplace and somehow turned it on with a weird button on the side, feeling the warmth he looked over at Beomgyu who stared at him curiously. He doesn't know why he suddenly did this, the urge to just comfort and wipe that terrified expression on Beomgyu's face took over his mind.
Walking over to Beomgyu he sat down next to the elder and grabbed the blanket covering the both of them. The faint golden yellow hue reflected off their faces as they silently stared at the fireplace, the sound of their breathing mixed in with the pattering rain. Even though it was silent between the two it was comforting to Taehyun.
"Taehyun..." Beomgyu softly called out making the younger look over at him, he saw Beomgyu staring back at him with a nervous expression. "Yes?" He answered and tilted his head staring into Beomgyu's soft pink eyes. The faint golden hue kissed Beomgyu's face beautifully; almost detailing every single perfect thing on it.
"Can- Can we please...Uhm...Cuddle? I know it's so sudden and it may disrespect your boundaries but i...I just..."
"Okay hyung," Taehyun said and got closer to the male, he had answered almost immediately but he wanted to do the best he could to make Beomgyu less scared than he was right now. He saw a calm smile form as Beomgyu went over to the longer side of the couch and sat down, Taehyun never really was a fan of cuddling with people (the only ever person he would cuddle was huening kai which was sometimes by force) but something inside of him made him want to do it.
Slowly approaching the male he awkwardly sat down on Beomgyu's lap and leaned back against his chest as the elder wrapped the blanket over the two, Taehyun wouldn't lie but this was extremely awkward for him. Cuddling with Beomgyu was the last thing he would ever imagine himself doing but here he was, on Beomgyu's lap in an attempt to calm the older from his fear.
"Thank you, Taehyun-ah," Beomgyu said softly as he wrapped his arms around Taehyun's waist making the younger flinch slightly. The male just nodded and leaned his head onto Beomgyu's chest trying to get comfortable, only the sound of soft breathing and crackling firewood echoed out in the whole room as if the rain had tuned out and left them in their little world.
Taehyun was filled with curiosity though, he wanted to know why and what made the elder so scared of the dark. He wasn't one to judge fears because there was always a valid reason to have them, whether it was considered childish or not. Listening to the slow heartbeat from Beomgyu's chest he looked up and met eyes with Beomgyu's eyes making him flush slightly from the sudden eye contact.
"Hyung, can I ask a question? if you're comfortable."
"Of course Taehyun."
"Why...Are you scared of the dark?" Taehyun asked slowly making sure to choose his words carefully, he didn't want to seem heartless asking this question if it was a sensitive topic. Beomgyu stayed silent for a few minutes before sighing softly as he leaned his body back more into the couch. "I knew you would ask that, nobody knows except for Yeonjun..."
"I'm sorry you don't have to tell me if—"
"It's okay, I trust you." Beomgyu cut him off. Taehyun stared up at the elder with a bit of shock in his eyes, he knew that this might've been the love spell that was making Beomgyu act like this but for some reason hearing that Beomgyu trusted him made him feel at ease.
Beomgyu hummed for a few seconds and inhaled softly preparing himself to explain his fear. "Ever since I was a child...I guess I always had a fear of the dark. Well, it wasn't that bad as it is now," He explained and slowly rubbed Taehyun's waist which the male surprisingly didn't mind.
"This is probably awkward to say but when I was a child...My mother would always leave at midnight and with my father running the company he would always come home late. During my childhood, my mother wasn't there that much...She would always leave me behind or treat me poorly like not paying enough attention to me or just straight up leaving me. I guess being left alone in the dark with nobody around was just a fear of mine, being lonely? From what I remember my breaking point was when my mother locked me in a dark closet for almost five hours once because I had angered her. She told me I needed to be disciplined for my actions, all I did was tell her to stay home more but she took it as me talking back and she just...Locked me inside a closet. Staying in that tight dark space made me so uncomfortable. Perhaps i'm overreacting but I guess that's what formed my fear of the dark. My mother had divorced my father a long time ago, she moved away and started a new life. I will be truthful, I miss her sometimes, but now I feel much happier with just my father."
The male finished talking and Taehyun was honestly astonished, he had thought that Beomgyu lived a perfect life and that being the son of a former famous rich ceo millionaire and owning a luxurious company made his life a golden highlight. But now realize it perhaps not everyone had that perfect lifestyle. This new information about Beomgyu was a lot but it helped me understand him more, and he never felt so glad to know that.
"I understand, hyung. It's okay to be afraid, everyone is afraid of something. Your fear is valid, but know that you shouldn't be ashamed of what you fear or not." Taehyun spoke softly before feeling Beomgyu's hold around him tighten. He felt the elder nuzzle his face onto the crook of his neck which made Taehyun awkwardly place his hands to the side. "Thank you Taehyun-ah."
The two stayed in the awkward comfortable position for a while until Beomgyu spoke up, "Taehyun, I've only ever met your older sister and heard about your grandma...May I ask, if it's alright with you, about your parents?"
Taehyun tensed up slightly from the sudden question about his parents, taking a bit to think about it he bit his lip nervously. Talking about his parents was a topic that was never brought up, he never had to explain their whereabouts or anything about them. For some reason he wanted to tell the elder, like something inside of him was pushing him to explain.
"Ah...You don't have to if it's uncomfortable to talk about." Beomgyu said after feeling the younger tense up in his arms, he saw Taehyun shake his head no as he felt him lean more into his chest becoming more and more comfortable by the second. "No it's just that I don't talk about them that much," Taehyun said and gently held Beomgyu's hand up playing with the silver bracelets the male had on.
"My parents...This is so tragic and sad to say but they died when I was thirteen, they were both killed when a truck collided with their car on a highway to Busan. Yuri noona was only fourteen at that time and the news broke us for months. We were immediately taken in by my grandmother and she cared for us the same way my mother did, don't worry hyung. I'm fine now, it's just that I feel so bad that noona had to give up her childhood and teenage years just to care for me and my grandma sometimes. Just the topic is rarely brought up I just don't know what to say."
Wow, that was the first time he had spoken about his parents in a while to someone besides Huening Kai. He felt Beomgyu hug him tighter making him look up at the elder who stared down with saddened eyes. "Don't be sad hyung, it's okay."
A small chuckle left Beomgyu's lips as he brought his hand up tucking a strand of hair behind Taehyun's ear. "Okay, I won't be sad darling," he spoke calmly, his smooth deep voice echoing throughout Taehyun's mind in an instant.
"Thank you for trusting me with this information, Taehyun," Beomgyu said and held the male closer which was somehow still possible. Taehyun just nodded and stared out to space, for some reason this talk about their past and opening up to each other more satisfied Taehyun, now realizing that both he and Beomgyu had not-so-perfect lives he felt comfortable as if he had known the elder for years now. "Thank you for trusting me, hyung."
Beomgyu smiled down and just nodded, his mind was at ease and forgot all about the darkness that surrounded the two. As he held Taehyun, it was like the younger was his light in his dark world, shining his way through a better view of life and it made him feel at ease. He didn't need any candles, a fireplace, or flashlights. He knew if he had Taehyun then he would be at ease right away.
"So, how did you meet Huening Kai?"
Taehyun snorted a little bit and smirked, "That idiot? Gosh, It's been years since our friendship started but I met him in my fourth-grade year in elementary school. He was a new transfer student and he immediately chose me as his desk partner. He was very loud, and when I say loud I meant cafeteria-wise loud. We just clicked together perfectly in an instant and now here we are eleven years of a long friendship that never once broke." Taehyun explained happily showing how much he admired Kai.
Beomgyu listened closely and just melted into Taehyun's voice, he loved it when the male spoke and when he had a happy tone like that it could send him off like fireworks.
The two talked more and more throughout the long dark hours and by the time they were exhausted the once hard rain turned into a soft drizzle. Taehyun didn't even realize time had passed by that fast when having a conversation with Beomgyu, it's been hours of nonstop talking and it just felt like a few minutes for Taehyun.
He slowly leaned closer to the male as his eyes fluttered shut, he felt a wave of exhaustion come over him and he could tell it was the same for Beomgyu. He felt the elder tuck the blanket closer to them as his strong arms wrapped around his waist securing a nice firm hold around him.
Taehyun slowly drifted off to bed, the faint sound of Beomgyu's comforting heartbeat made him feel at ease as an elder also slowly drifted to bed. The sounds of their heartbeats beating together as a new connection grew between them, something stronger and lighter after their long talks about the past together. and as midnight finally hit, Taehyun wasn't awoken at all by the stinging feeling on his wrist.
There were only twenty more days until the love spell ends.
