Ralliel Everlin.
Calm, my wolf was too calm, it was unlike him to be calm, or responsive but not truly responding, like a brewing storm so I let him be, we shared a body, we shared a mind but at times we shared different thoughts, and this time, I was sure he needed his own space from me to think but I couldn't stand it.
The worry over my parents, my siblings, my wolves, it kept churning in my head, reminding me of what I had lost as an alpha, so happy to leave my pack that I never thought of the consequences of doing so, —I know it wasn't my fault that my family was taken when I was away, but the guilt of not being there just to try protect them kept coming back, I couldn't blame myself, but until my wolves were back, I would still blame myself.
And my hate for humans escalated, as wolves we might share the same appearance but now to me it was turning out that we weren't all the same, we all didn't want peace and a better future for our children, some were driven by dangerous ambition and it made me mad to think they would risk the lives of so many innocence just to accomplish a selfish goal.
"Alpha, please control your anger." Webster whispered next to me with a slight groan and I realized that I had affected the wolves around me, they were all groaning or paralyzed in fear and it didn't surprise me as much that I affected them in this way, I was stronger when angered and I couldn't control the bloodlust.
So I thought of my mate, his beautiful skin, his eyes, his hair, how buff he was, Luca had always teased me about wanting a mate who was just as ripped as me and now it was proven, only that Andreas wasn't as tall but that just gave us a better dynamic and something to tease him with, it made me smile and when I looked at the wolves around me they were also smiling, that was better.
The scent of wolfsbane and blood caught my nose, above the many different scents of nature. "Stop." I order the driver who does so immediately and I make my way out of the van, it was late afternoon and the sun would set soon. "Everyone out, we'll trek on foot from here, use the woods as cover." I convey my message through the link and they all silently pour out of the two vans and scatter into the woods.
"Alpha what is it?" Webster questioned. "Wolfsbane and blood, southwest and that is where we're headed." I explain to him lifting my hand from the ground. "Besides if we arrive with vehicles they will know something isn't right, we only have a kilometer ahead of us, we'll be fine." I added further and Webster nodded signaling the drivers to try and hide the vans and wait for a call for them to drive up.
"Everyone stay alert watch your steps, do not shift but make sure your senses are on high alert, our enemy is smart and are not afraid to kill us, now lets go." I tell them all calmly through the think before we start a slow paced jog into a full sprint. We covered a lot of ground hiding in the woods, every so often I would call for a roll call just to make sure my wolves were all accounted for until we reached our destination and the smell of wolfsbane practically punched me in the face.
What surrounded the retreat was a field of the flower and in heavy bloom, though not as lethal without a mixture of water the pollen and sap from them would still be a nuisance because it stung. "Alpha how do we proceed?" Webster asked pulling on a gas mask that covered the entirety of his face and so did the other wolves, we weren't entirely proud and primal, we could also use modern technology to our advantage.
"Three snipers in the trees, you and a few wolves will circle around and check for any underground bunkers, the retreat on the map had six buildings, I count seven, so when we draw their fire, you'll move in." I ordered the wolves and Webster who took off almost instantly to do as I ordered. "Alpha snipers at the ready." A wolf spoke through the link to me and I threw a hand grenade from the several on my belt to the small fence in front of us.
The explosion made the fence drop, creating dust and sand that whipped up everywhere which got the attention of the people on the other side. "Alpha there are traitors with the hunters, wolves and several humans in lab coats." When those words were projected into my mind my wolf woke up and growled, of course human scientists were part of this. "Kill them all." I gave the order my anger taking on a more lethal form whilst the bullets flew.
I watched the retreat become a bloodbath, wolves had exceptional eyesight and give them the perfect gun, they'll kill anything. When the screams and commotion became a silent hum in the background I noticed one man walking out from one building with two hunters behind him, and they carried missiles. "Everyone scatter, we've practiced for this." I order my wolves who were already on the move, this was turning out to be a really dramatic turn of events.
Missiles were launched, explosions took place creating more chaos but none of my wolves were injured and they used the smoke to cover themselves like I was and attacking. "Alpha, I presume its you out there!" The man yelled, taking a closer look I could see he wasn't just a man, he was a wolf, and my anger spiked. "You left nothing but dust at our base in the Ridge, only you — a blood monger could cause so much destruction." He continued and we all knew he was buying time for reinforcements, my wolves weren't stupid.
The two men behind him fell to the ground gurgling on their own blood and he also took on a few bullets but I was sure they missed his head, as a wolf, if he was strong enough his body could heal from those so I took my chance and lunged for him, he rolled out of the way of my boot and stood to his feet with a gun in hand aimed at me, I could see the bullet wounds slowly healing, to me as a wolf it was slow but to humans it was rapid.
"I don't need your reasons as to why you did this, I just want your head." I growled and he visibly shook, the first two buildings that made up the retreat exploded, literally leaving wood, concrete and ash in their wake. The wolf didn't take his eyes off me, even when his comrades called out for help when they burned. I cocked my head to the side waiting for him to shoot.
"I underestimated you, you're clearly the more ruthless one, your wolves are resilient, you know what they kept screaming when I tortured them, that the Goddess would help them and that alpha Ralliel would come." He mentions trying to move me, make me falter but I was better than that, and another three buildings exploded from their very foundations with humans, rogue wolves and hunters wailing in pain after, which shook him.
"What will you do now, I'm destroying everything." I taunted him. "And I won't let you." A feminine voice answered behind me, I could also tell she was a wolf, with a gun aimed at me. "Jarrod, are you hurt?" She demanded. "Nothing I can't heal alpha." He responded and that's when it made sense, she was the actual leader. "Not for long." I whispered. "What did you say." The alpha growled pulling the trigger and I dodged the bullet which went straight for her subordinates neck.
"Shoot at will." I order my wolves and they rip apart Jarrod with bullets whilst I pulled a poison laced knife from my back and stabbed the alpha's leg with it, she grunted out and kicked me back with her uninjured leg, I swerved back a little, she was strong and fast but I tackled her to the ground again punching her over and over, her claws swiped at me and I dodged, she used that moment to grab another gun from her holster, I rolled away and flipped several times over to avoid her shots.
Grabbing my own guns I shot back, like I had predicted she was fast, she grabbed burning logs and threw them at me, in my attempt to dodge she fled. "Coward!" I yelled into the fire and smoke but the scent of my kin called to me and I couldn't ignore it.
