'Good evening children.' Dumbledore spoke.
The entire great hall started to got silent. You looked around for a moment. A few children were staring at Harry. Looking at him as if he was some sort of traitor.
'Now, we have two changes in staffing this year. We're pleased to welcome back professor Grubbly-Plank who'll be taking Care of Magical Creatures while professor Hagrid is on temporary leave.'
Hagrid wasn't there? That was pretty serious. Hagird was always there. Taking care of his own creatures. You often visited him with Harry, Hermione and Ron. He was a good listener.
'We also wish to welcome our new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher professor Dolores Umbridge.'
You saw a woman with short brown hair and brown eyes. She wore a pink outfit. It was awful to look at. Like some tore her out of a 5 year olds dream and stuffed an ugly face on it. She let out a small giggle.
'And I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing the professor good luck. Now, as usual, our caretaker mister Filch, has asked me to remind you-'
He was cut off by Umbridge. She coughed. Dumbledore sighed a little before looking at her. Everyone looked at her. She placed her pink bag on the table and got up. She stepped forwards.
'Thank you Headmaster, for those kind words of welcome. And how lovely to see all your bright happy faves smiling up at me. I'm sure we're all going to be very good friends.'
You didn't really think that was going to happen. You didn't know her but something about her didn't seem right.
'That's likely.' Fred and George spoke in unison.
'The ministry of magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each Headmaster has brought some new to this historic school progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged.'
You sighed and leaned your head on your hand. She wasn't very interesting to you. She bored you.
'I don't like her.' You whispered at Luna.
'Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected and prune practices that ought to be prohibited.'
She let out another weird chuckle or giggle. You didn't know what it was. All you knew was that it was highly annoying. She walked back to her spot. Dumbledore began to clap and slowly everyone joined in.
'Thank you, professor Umbridge. That really was most illuminating.'
The rest of his speech wasn't really interesting. You just focussed on the food. Then everyone slowly started to leave.
You got up and walked towards the common room.
-
You were heading to your first lesson from Umbridge. You weren't really excited. You walked into the classroom. You sat down besides Hermione. You saw Draco sitting further in the classroom.
'Are you also as excited as I am?' You asked.
You didn't have any books. You just had a quill and some paper with you. Suddenly a paper ball flew against your face. You turned your head in the direction it came from and you saw Draco and his friends laughing. You shot Draco a look and threw the paper in the floor.
'Good throw Gregory.' Draco laughed.
'Don't give me that. I know it was you, Malfoy.' You sighed.
You looked up and saw a paper bird flying through the classroom. You acutally looked up to ignore any remarks from Draco.
You smiled as it moved your way. You blew up and the bird made a beautiful swirl before flying towards Draco. He got up and slammed it aside.
Suddenly it caught fire and the burned piece of paper fell down. Umbridge lowered her wand with the creepy smile of hers. The class immediately shut up.
'Good morning children.' She started.
Her voice echoed through the room. You aactually cringed a little. You hated the sound of it.
'Ordinary Wizard Level examination.' She spoke.
She used her wand to write it on the chalk border in front of the class. You looked at it and then back at Umbridge.
'O W L.' She spoke. 'More commonly known as OWLS.' She spoke.
She smiled into the class and no one dared to speak. She acted like you had the IQ of a snail.
'Study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so and the consequences may be severe.'
She flicked her wand and the piles of books behind her started floating, dividing themselves over the tables. You grabbed it and openedbyour book right away. You started looking through it. Everything you needed to know was in there. Accept casting spells.
'Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven.' She continued. 'But you will be pleased to know from now on you will be following a casually structured ministry approved of defense against the dark magic.'
You sighed and put up your hand. She looked at you as if she didn't want to answer your question but allowed you to ask her anyways.
'Yes?' She asked.
'There's nothing in here about using defensive spells.' You pointed out.
'Such a nerd.' You heard Draco laugh.
You had never been the centre of his jokes and mocking. Why was he suddenly aiming for you?
'Using spells?'
She let out one of her high pitched laughs. You looked at her in disbelieve.
'I can't imagine why you would need spells in my classroom.' She spoke while walking towards you.
'We're not going to use magic?' Ron asked who was sitting behind you.
You wanted to know that too. Voldemort had a close connection to your family. You had to protect yourself. Especially in the situation you were in.
'You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk free way.' She smiled.
'Well, what use is that? If we're going to be attacked it won't be risk free.' Harry spoke.
'Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class.' Umbridge hissed while turning around.
She walked back. You couldn't believe this was happening. She didn't care? How about the battle that was about to begin? Voldemort wasn't going to sit still.
'It is the view of the ministry, that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examination, which after all is what school is about.'
That didn't make any sense. You had to learn how to defend yourself. Theoretical knowledge wasn't going to work in real-life.
'And how is theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?' Harry asked.
'There is nothing out there dear. Who would you imagine would attack children like yourself.'
Harry sighed annoyed. He was going to say it. You prayed that he wouldn't. Don't say it.. Don't say it.
'Oh, well I don't know... maybe... Lord Voldemort.' He said.
He said it. He said it.. yes he did.
Everyone looked at him. You swallowed. They were talking. Not believing him of course.
'No let me makes this quite clear, you have been told that a curtain dark wizatd is at rise once again... this is a lie.' She spoke while looking at Harry.
'It's not a lie! I saw him! I fought him!' He hissed back.
'Detention! Mister Potter.'
'So according to you Cedric Diggory dropped dead on his own accord?!' Harry hissed.
You looked at him, begging him to stop. He wasn't going to stop.
'Cedric Diggory his death was a tragic accident!'
'It was murder! Voldemort killed him! You must know that!' Harry defended himself.
'Enough!' She screamed.
You stared at her.
'Enough! I said enough! My office, mister Potter..' She spoke and she finished with a giggle.
She continued with her lesson. Completely ignoring ant question and even Harry didn't say anything.
