The Change

  Writer pov.

As the older humans armed themselves, the younger ones fled screaming and the crying monster turned around, a little girl by the age of ten stood there, angry at the humans that were arming against this monster who was clearly grieving for this human more than them. She faced them, standing between the monster and the humans and shouted "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" to the humans, startling the monster around her age. "Hope, this is not the time. Move aside and go-" "NO!" she shouted at her parents. "CAN'T YOU SEE THAT HE'S GRIEVING FOR HIM? ARE YOU SO BLIND THAT YOU DON'T SEE THE TEARS STREAMING DOWN HIS FACE AS IF HE JUST LOST HIS BROTHER? WELL, I DO!" she turned around and walked towards the monster, hugging him, much to his shock. "I can see the sadness that I felt last year in him and I'm sure he has parents that will lose two children the same day if you do this, so please..." she looked back at the humans, children peeking through windows and adults standing together, frozen in shock. "... hear his story." Her parents looked at the leader of the village, almost begging for him to agree with their daughter. The leader sighed, then agreed with the child, listening to the monster she had vouched for as he told them the story of his race, the story of how they got here and their brotherhood, moving on to tell them all about the barrier.

Suddenly, there was a movement amongst the village's elders, and six of them volunteered to give their souls to join Chara's in order to break the barrier. Asriel, filled with joy, promised to return the next day, hugging Hope once more as a way of saying thanks and ran to the Underground to tell his parents the news.

Surprisingly, the first monster he saw as he ran into the castle was Gaster, the royal scientist. "Gaster, do you know where dad is?" he asked the skeleton. "He is in the throne room, your highness, I'm doing research on the barrier. How did you even get passed it?" "Long story. Also, what did I tell you about formalities?" "Sorry, Asriel, old habits." "It's ok, happens to everybody. I'm going to tell dad what happened, want to come along?" "Sure Asriel." The two walked out of the room. Asriel told everything to his parents. They sent out the word for the monsters to pack. Gaster first told his lizard assistant, who was tinkering with what seemed to be a robot, and told her the news, then went back home to tell his two sons. Little Papyrus jumped up and down in excitement and dashed to his room to pack. Little Sans, on the other hand, mumbled something about the human child being appropriately named, chuckled to himself and walked upstairs with his dad to pack.

The next day, every single monster waited within the castle. Asriel walked past the barrier once more, bringing the soul containers, designed by Gaster a few years before Chara fell down, with him. The elders died in peace, somehow each possessing a different type of soul. Asriel took Chara's soul out of his body and called the other six souls along with it.

  The Barrier, was broken.

Both monsters and humans stood there, both sides too shy to speak until Hope suddenly popped up from the group of humans, ran up to Asriel and hugged him, glad he was safe. Around them, humans and monsters alike snapped out of their shock and closed the gap between them.
