Chapter 9 - Piggy-back ride
Luna's P.O.V.
It hurts. My whole body aches, some parts more than others. My lungs feel like they are on fire, and pins and needles are stabbing my legs mercilessly.
As I slowly start to regain my bearings, I take notice of a monstrous headache forming, making me groan in pain. I lift my hand up to rub my temple as if it would help ease the discomfort.
"Luna!?" a voice shouts, making me wince. With a lot of effort, I manage to open my eyes a little coming face to face with Luca's worried eyes. "Thank God you are OK! You had us so worried! Don't ever do that again!" he whispered wholeheartedly, scolding me at the end. His purple eyes are twinkling with unshed tears, making me feel guilty.
I go to apologize only to come short when my throat starts hurting, no doubt scratched from all the heavy breathing I did earlier. Understanding what I needed, Luc quickly grabs a glass of water and holds it up to my lips, helping me drink.
He puts the empty glass down while I clear my throat, cautiously testing it.
"I'm sorry Luc, I didn't mean to scare you guys..." I whisper softly to him, looking down at my hands with a frown on my face. He brought his hand up to my back and began to rub it in soothing circles.
"Don't worry about it. We both know that it was that cranky teacher's fault. You should have seen the way Griffin and Levi were glaring at coach Mayers. You could almost see the lasers being shot out of their eyes." He said, chuckling at the end while shaking his head. Hearing this, I let out a little giggle, immediately regretting it as I feel my lungs contract make me grimace in pain.
I take this small moment of silence between us to look around. I take notice that I am in the nurse's office, laying in the small white bed by the corner. The walls are a warm cream color, making it look less like a hospital, which I really appreciate.
Hearing the sound of a door opening, both Luca and I look to see a very unhappy and frustrated nurse. Following behind her are our friends, the most probable cause of her sour mood. She looks up, seeing that I am awake and sends me a small smile.
She opens her mouth to ask me something when the boys started firing questions, talking over each other.
"Are you okay!?" Riley interrupts her, worry swimming deep within his bright green eyes. I go to answer, only to be interrupted by Roman.
"Does anything hurt?" He asks looking at me with concern written all over his face.
"Of course, something hurts you, nincompoop!" Levi shoots, directing his pent-up anger at his best friend who only lifts his hands up in surrender as a response.
"Did she get a concussion? Why isn't she answering!?" Ry asks, starting to panic. If this boy doesn't calm down he is going to have a panic attack.
"How many fingers can you see?" Apollo buts in, almost stabbing my eyes with the two fingers he was holding up. I slap his hand away, annoyance starting to bubble inside of me.
"Do you know who we are?" Riley asks terrified, his eyes now wide as saucers.
"She didn't even hit her head, you dimwits, why the hell would she have a concussion!?" Griffin hisses sharply, smacking the back of Pollo's and Ry's heads.
"I don't know! I'm not the doctor here!" Apollo complains, rubbing his aching head. Welcome to the club buddy.
As much as I enjoy seeing them argue like little children, their bickering is making my head pound on another level. Not knowing what else to do, I shoot a pleading look to Alison and Lottie, who were watching the whole thing in silent amusement, before placing my head under the pillow to try and block the noise.
Not even a minute after, I hear a few smacking sounds, and all of the boys, minus Luca, who was still seated by my side, groan.
"All of you shut up! Can't you see that you are making it worse for Luna!? She is clearly in pain, and your bickering isn't helping! Now, why don't you do something useful for once and shut the hell up!?" Lottie snaps at them.
I lift the pillow off my head and look ahead, seeing the boys looking at me with apologetic looks on their faces. Besides them is Alison, a proud look on her face due to the fact that her shy girlfriend was able to stand up to a bunch of hormonal boys.
"Well, now that this bunch of idiots are done with the questions, how are you feeling sweetheart?" The nurse says, sending the boys a glare, but when she turns to me, a soft smile replaces it.
"Like there is a stampede of elephants jumping around in my head while dancing to heavy metal..." I grumble closing my eyes and shifting on the bed so that I can sit up.
"That was oddly specific..." Api mumbles under his breath, looking at me weirdly.
"Unfortunately, that is normal. Your brain didn't get enough oxygen for quite some time due to the running, resulting in that pounding headache. I will give you some painkillers to take whenever you feel like it's unbearable. Is that okay with you?
"Yeah, that sounds great, thank you." I answer her with a small smile gracing my lips.
"OK then! You are good to go! Just take it easy and if you need anything, come by my office anytime. You might want to get the rest of the day off so that you can rest, but besides that, tomorrow you should be brand new!" She told me enthusiastically.
In an instant, Levi is by my side, helping up along with Luca. Standing up, my legs feel like jelly, making me put all my weight on my triplets. I look at them, trying to convey a silent apology and they shake their heads, telling me not to worry. I know there is no way I can walk without feeling immense pain so the only option left is being carried.
Suddenly it's like a lightbulb went off in my head, causing me to look up at a grumpy looking Griffin with a lost puppy face. As if sensing my gaze, he eyes me warily, afraid of my sudden change of mood.
"Griffy can I get a piggy-back ride to the car, please...?" I ask him in a sweet voice, batting my eyelashes. As much as my triplets are muscular and fit, especially Levi, they wouldn't be able to carry me all the way to the car. But Griffin with his much bigger and muscular figure might...
He grumbles under his breath, definitely displeased with the name I gave him, but a few seconds later and he sights in defeat.
"I'll do it as long as you don't call me that again. EVER!" He compromises, pointing a finger at me in warning and a scowl on his face.
A beaming smile spreads on my face as he starts walking towards me and crouching down to make it easier for me to climb onto his broad back. Reluctantly, Levi helps me up, making sure I am secure before letting go.
"Thank you for everything, Miss!" I say turning back to see her as we make our way out the door, and in direction of the parking lot. As we tread our way through the empty hallways, Lev turns to look at me.
"I could've carried you..." Levi grumbles, but soon shuts up when I send him a look.
"You can carry me" Apollo buts in, looking like a child on Christmas day just from his train of thought. My brother looks at him weirdly before answering.
"No" He deadpans, earning a whine from Pollo.
"But why?" He questions further, trying to get the answer that he wants.
"Because you are not crippled and can walk fine on your own" Api pouts but I don't give him time to say anything else before I cut into their conversation.
"Hey! I am not crippled!" I scream at him while hanging from Griff's back like a koala bear. He just looks at me with a really look, gesturing to my current position. My cheeks heat up, realizing that he is partly right.
"Geez woman, try not to scream in my ear the next time" Fin complains playfully while looking at me from his peripheral vision. I just send him a sheepish smile, hugging his neck even tighter and resting my chin on his shoulder.
He turns his head to look at me and smiles, causing me to slightly blush. One of his genuine, rare ones before he continues to look ahead.
Suddenly I feel someone's gaze burning the side of my head and turn to see Roman walking beside us with a blank face. I frown at this.
"Everything okay Ro?" I ask him concerned. He looks at me blankly for a few awkward seconds before turning his cold gaze into a glare and directing it at Griffin, who was returning it with just as much passion.
"Fantastic" He gets out through gritted teeth.
"Okay, why don't we lower the level of testosterone, hmm?" Alison says with a knowing look in their direction. To her side stand Levi and Luca, bodies stiff as cardboard, directing sharp looks at both boys as if daring them to do something.
"Am I missing something?" I ask confused, slightly tilting my head to the side and furrowing my eyebrows.
"It's nothing Lu. Why don't you start thinking of ways to tell Xander what happened so he can take you home?" Apollo suggests, trying to dissipate the thick tension in the air.
"Tell me what?" Alex asks, turning a corner. We look at each other, our faces looking as if we were just caught red-handed stealing cookies from the cookie jar.
Crap!
