Chapter 8 - Punishment gone wrong
Lunch break was over one hour ago, and I am now making my way to PE class. All of my friends have sports at the same time as me, but the school decided that boys and girls should do it separately. Occasionally, if the coaches were in a good mood, they would let us do a mixed class with more fun games. I didn't think that would be the case today though, in fact, it is most probably the opposite. Rumors were going around that the school had to cut on the sports teachers' salaries to have more money for science equipment. They are bound to be unhappy about that.
Snapping out of my thoughts, I make my way to the girls' locker rooms to get changed. Shoot! I'm late, I think to myself as I see that there is no one here anymore. I quickly change into my sports uniform and make my way outside to join the others. I try to sneak in between the girls, praying that I don't get caught by coach Mayers, but luck is never on my side, and she spots me even before I can take one step.
"Luna Hart! What do you think you're doing? You are late to my class, and now you try to sneak in!? To the track! Now!" She shouts, furious at me. The girls don't do anything to hide their giggles and snickers, making me feel uncomfortable. In return, they receive one of Alison's mighty glares and shut up immediately.
"How many laps, coach?" I ask her in a small voice, fiddling with my fingers in embarrassment. She laughs at me a humorless laugh while shaking her head.
"The days where you only had to run 10 laps as punishment are now over. You will run for the whole class, and if you stop, I'll have you do push-ups for two hours." She threatens. Hearing this, I feel myself pale. I can't even run 10 minutes without wheezing for breath, let alone in this heat. How am I supposed to run for one hour and a half nonstop!? When I don't make a move to go to the track, she shouts at me again, making me jump.
"Today, Hart!" From the corner of my eye, I see Lottie giving me a sympathetic look. Help me, I mouth at her, but I know there is nothing she can do. I slowly make my way across the court and closer to the boys' class, where the running track is. The scalding sun shines strongly, unpleasantly burning my skin. As I pass by my friends, they give me a questioning and concerned look, probably seeing the petrified expression on my face. Their coach then barks at them to pay attention, and their gazes are torn away from me.
I reach the beginning of the track and start running slowly, saving my energy, knowing I'll need all of it. 10 minutes later, and I'm already panting for breath. 20 minutes in, and I can barely breathe. 30, and I am ready to drop dead. I start feeling a little dizzy and trip over my own foot but, fortunately, catch myself before I fall on my face. I sense someone's presence running beside me and look to see up to see Roman.
"Hey, Luna? You don't look so good. Are you okay?" He asks, looking down at me. I can barely make out the concern etched on his face through my blurry vision.
"Oh my god!" He exclaims, a mixture of deep worry and fear in his green orbs as he looks at me.
"What?'" I barely manage to ask in between breaths, coming to a very slow jog before Roman pulls me to a stop. A dizzy spell hits me, and I lose balance once again, only to have Ro steadying me with a hand on my back.
"Your nose... it's bleeding." He tells me, his frown deepening and his eyebrows furrowing even more. I bring my hand to touch my nose, and sure enough, it comes back covered in a crimson liquid.
My breaths are still coming out ragged, and the raging sun sure isn't helping my dizzy mind. All of a sudden, I start seeing small, black spots, and I'm wobbling on my feet, not being able to keep my balance. An arm slips around my waist to keep me steady as the black dots grow in size.
"Whoa! Stay with me Lu!" Is all I can make out before his desperate voice starts fading, incoherent sounds taking its place. A ringing sounds in my ears, adding to my already pounding head.
I feel another set of hands on me, helping Rom to keep me up. I lean against their chest as my legs buckle under me, not being able to hold my weight anymore. In the distance, I can just make out people calling out to me, but I am too far gone to actually process what they're telling me. By now, my sense of vision has also abandoned me. I can feel my consciousness slipping away, like water through fingers, and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I feel my eyes roll to the back of my head before I let go of the string that was holding the last of my awareness.
And then there is just darkness. A black, silent bottomless pit that I welcome with open arms.

Roman's P.O.V.
We are currently doing some football drills in P.E class, but unlike other days my mind isn't into it. It's been around half an hour since Luna came in about 5 minutes late, and the coach yelled at her like she skipped class. I thought that when she started making her way to the track as punishment, she would do a few laps as usual and then go back to join the rest of the girls, but she is still going at it.
I start to get worried when I see her struggling to breathe properly. Due to her frail body, her stamina is close to non-existent, and that is understandable. If she makes too much of an effort, it will take a toll on her physically.
I'm not the only one worried though. I can see that the rest of our friends share the same train of thought. While Luca, Apollo, and I keep an eye on her, Levi and Griffin are transforming their concern into anger and are directing it at coach Mayers, no doubt torturing her in their minds for making Luna push herself this hard.
I see her steps getting sloppy, and when she almost falls on her face, I don't waste any time in making my way over, ignoring my own coach's screams for me to come back. I look behind me to look at the boys, and they nod their heads in silent approval.
In a few seconds, I am jogging beside her and notice that air is barely coming into her lungs from how fast she is breathing. She looks up at me, but her eyes are glazed, almost as if her mind isn't fully here. I ask her if she is feeling okay when I see her overly flushed state but don't even give her time to respond before I pull her to a stop, seeing blood oozing from her nose at a dangerous speed.
"Your nose... it's bleeding!" I tell her with fear evident in my voice. She brings her hand to cup her nose, and when she looks at it, she realizes I'm right as she takes in the red liquid reflecting the blazing sun. To my right, I hear rapid footsteps and turn my head in their direction, only to see Luca sprinting towards us like a mad man.
In the distance, I can see Apollo trying to hold back two very furious boys from jumping on the teacher and tearing her limb from limb, no doubt having seen the blood by now. My attention is snapped back again to Luna who is now getting wobbly on her feet, her eyes looking around disorientated. As I see her on the brink of passing out, my anxiousness increases tenfold, my hand around her waist being the only thing holding her upright.
"Stay with me Lu!" I tell her, desperate for her to do so "Just hang on. Don't close your eyes!" I tell her, practically screaming now as I see her legs buckling underneath her.
"Luna!" My best friend shouts. She slumps against Luc's chest, who has just got here, his facial expression terrified, no doubt from seeing his triplet in such a state. But it isn't until her eyes roll to the back of her head that we go into full panic mode, making our blood run cold.
"What are you doing just standing there!? Take her to the infirmary, you idiots!!" Allison screams at us from the other side of the court. Luca immediately snaps out of his trance and gently gathers his younger sister in his arms, tenderly cradling her small body while making his way across the field to the building. As we pass our classmates, I can see Griff and Lev currently arguing with the coach and sending her glares while poor Pollo tries to calm everyone down.
On our way to the medical wing, we cross paths with a deeply concerned Lottie, who gives us a towel. I immediately set it over Lu's nose, putting pressure so that the blood can clog.
We make our way through the corridors while I keep a close eye on the unconscious girl in her brother's arms. My thoughts are going into overdrive. I am definitely in a panic, running all the worst-case scenarios in my mind. She could have lost too much blood, or even go into a coma from the lack of oxygen to her brain?
Why am I so concerned? I think to myself. Should I be this worried over my best friends' little sister? Or is it because I consider her a sister myself? I can't even tell anymore. Maybe... no that's impossible. I shake my head as if I could shake off my thoughts physically. There isn't a chance of me having romantic feelings for her. Right? I mean, we grew up with each other, and my parents consider her their own flesh and blood. We are practically siblings. Besides, her brothers would skin me alive if I even mentioned it as a joke, let alone being serious.
But as much as I try to, I can't turn away that feeling that I get in my stomach every time I think about her. Her smile, her laugh, her cute pout, or the slight blush that sometimes tints her cheeks.
I break away from my thoughts as we near the infirmary door. Instead of knocking, a frenzied Luca bursts into the room, not even waiting for someone to answer, and I follow close behind.
Let's just hope that her situation isn't critical...

What about his mixed feelings towards Luna? Do you think he is the one, or is that spot already taken? Perhaps by a certain knight in shining armor...?
