Chapter 12 - Greyson

"Grey!" I shout as I give him a bone-crushing hug, hanging off his body like a koala bear with my legs wrapped tightly around his torso.

"Violet, how are you, smiley?" He asks, using the nickname he came up with for me when we were little.

Greyson, or Grey, is the Morgan's eldest son being 21. Like Roman and Riley, he used to be around a lot and has known me and the triplets since the day we were born. Even though my brothers and I have a lot in common, Rey and I are one and the same. We share a special bond, a connection that no words can begin to describe. Our personalities and tastes are disturbingly similar, making Jack, his father, joke around that we are long lost twins.

We have been through hell and back together, creating unforgettable memories. I was there for him when he fell off a tree, breaking his leg, and lent him my shoulder to cry on when his first girlfriend mercilessly broke his heart. In return, he witnessed my coming of age in more ways than one. He was also the first one to be able to bring me back to reality when the night terrors and panic attacks started. We were and still are each other's rock. Whatever happens, we know we can always count on one another, even when the situation seems so terrible that you can't tell your own family. He is like another brother to me, equally protective when needed but not overreactive like my blood ones.

About three years ago, he decided that he wanted to study forensic sciences, so he decided to pursue this career in the US, where there were more opportunities. It was hard to say goodbye at the airport, and the only thing holding me together was the knowledge that it wouldn't be forever. He would still visit home once in a while and would spend big holidays here too, like Christmas. The last time I saw him was around six months ago, and I have missed him like crazy.

"I'm great! How are the states?" I question him while detangling myself from his muscular arms, a radiant smile still planted on my face.

"In the same place last time I checked!" he answers teasingly, setting me into a fit of giggles along with his deep chuckle.

"That wasn't even funny..." Someone grumbled from beside us, but I pay them no mind and turn my attention back to Grey.

"So? How are you doing? How long are you staying here? Wait, why did you come? Is something wrong? Please tell me you didn't get some girl pregnant?? If so, can I be the Godmother? What am I saying? Of course, I would be the Godmother! It must be something else...did they kick you out? Grey, did you let your tarantula out in the headmaster's office again? Did-" I rant at the speed of light, only to be interrupted by the 21-year-old giant in front of me.

"Violet, breathe." Grey reminds me, amusement shining in his eyes as he hears my mindless rambling. I do so, and after I have calmed myself down, I go to speak, only to be interrupted.

"Well, hello to you too, Luna. How was your day, guys? Great! Thanks for asking." Ezekiel comments, sarcasm dripping off his every word. I turn around to face my eldest brothers, who look rather unamused.

"Hey, guys... how are you?" I ask tentatively, smiling sheepishly at both of them. With all the excitement of having Greyson back, I forgot that my brothers were still in the room. The twins are staring at me with an unimpressed look, and I go to apologize only to be cut off, once again.

"Why the hell do you call her Violet? I thought that from the absurd amount of time you spend together, you would have known her name by now." Xander questions Grey, a scowl adorning his sharp features. Hearing his words, the boy in question looks at me, and we make eye contact. Just like that, we break into hysterical laughter. Ev and Ez look at us like we have finally lost our marbles, while Alex is glaring daggers, almost burning a hole in our skulls from how intense it is.

"It wasn't a joke." He growls menacingly. Slowly sobering up, I take in his clenched jaw and fists and elbow Greyson with all my strength, causing him to grunt and hold the left side of his torso, where I hit him.

"Did you get stronger, smiley?" He asks me mockingly, and if it weren't for my now severely irritated brother, we would have broken into an argument that could last hours.

"Focus!" Xander snaps at us, impatiently tapping his foot. Before I can start telling him the reason for my nickname, Greyson starts chuckling again while shaking his head, making me sigh.

"What's so funny?" Alex fires at him, his patience fading dangerously fast. The 21-year-old 'man' as he likes to call himself, gets his giggles under control before speaking in an amused tone.

"I just can't believe how slow you are, bro. I have been calling her this for years, and only now you notice?" Hearing Greyson's words, my third eldest brother's muscles tense, no doubt preparing himself to punch some sense into the guy.

"Greyson..." I warn him, not wanting to rile up my brother more than it is otherwise, I'm positive we would need to clean Rey's blood off the carpet.

"Sorry, sorry... didn't mean to wake up the beast." He says, smirking cunningly at a fuming Xander. "Anyways, if you really must know..." He trails off, purposely building suspense.

"Just get on with it!" Evan, the usually most caring of my brothers, snaps at my friend, rolling his eyes in annoyance.

"Fine. It's pretty obvious, really. Her eyes...?" He trails off, willing them to finish off his train of thought. My brothers, however, don't seem to catch on and just glower at him.

"Is there something wrong with her eyes?" Ezekiel says, raising a challenging eyebrow. His comment makes Greyson facepalm before letting out a deep sigh, his shoulders slouching as he does so.

"Honestly, you guys have thick skulls..." He mumbles under his breath, intensifying the boy's glares tenfold. "She calls me Grey, not only because it is a shorter version of my name, but also because it is my eye color. Hers is a shade of purple that looks more like violet, so I call her that.

"All of this bickering because of something as trivial as that? I thought it had some deeper meaning or something." Ezekiel says, running a hand through his hair in annoyance.

If only he knew... Greyson looks at me, understanding crossing his eyes. He knows what I'm thinking. He knows that the meaning of the name is anything but shallow, but we would never tell my brothers the real reason for why he calls me that. They would be heartbroken.

"Well, I'm going to start dinner." Evan says making his way to the kitchen. Alexander stomps away to his room, a prominent scowl still planted on his face.

"Grey, can you please stay for dinner? I bet your parents wouldn't mind just this one time..." I plead to him, flashing my secret weapon. He coos seeing the lost puppy look I'm giving him, and pinches my cheeks for a second before I swat his hands away.

"Princess, I'm sure that Eleonor and Jack miss Greyson-" Ezekiel tried to reason with me only to come short when Grey cuts him off mid-sentence.

"It's ok. Those two already predicted that this would be the case and gave me the all-clear." He says, waving his concerns away, watching him with a knowing look.

"Did you hear that, Ez!? He can stay for dinner! Isn't that fantastic?" I ask him, jumping up and down enthusiastically while tugging on his hand for extra emphasis. I'm pretty sure that from an outsider's point of view, I looked like a small child, but I didn't have it me to care.

"Just great, sweetheart." Ez struggles to get out, flashing us a tight-lipped smile.

What I didn't see was the cocky smirk my friend sent my brother, who in response just flipped him off...

~~~
A couple of hours later, the youngest of my brothers arrived home and were pleasantly surprised when they found a grinning Grey waiting for them. My triplets, River, and I get along with him perfectly fine, but our older siblings not so much... I wonder why that is?
For dinner, Evan cooked spaghetti with meatballs which we are currently devouring. From the kitchen table, we can hear the TV that one of the boys left on in the living room, and when a familiar song starts playing, my eyes snap to Greyson.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking, smiley?" He asks me with a beaming grin on his face as soon as we lock eyes. I return it before shouting at the top of my lungs, making my brothers wince at the loud sound.
"Pitch Perfect marathon!!" We say together, squealing like a bunch of teenage girls. In my defense, I technically am one...
"Do you want to kill me? You guys almost gave me a heart attack!" Luca exclaims, before putting a hand to his heart dramatically. I giggle at his theatrics before turning back to my giant friend.
"Can we do it at your house? I haven't seen Jack in a while." I ask him, talking about the films. Hearing this, the twins' heads snap to me, a slight frown on their faces.
"Wait, what do you mean? I thought we were all gonna watch a movie together today. I miss hanging out with my little sister." Evan says, pouting like a toddler who just got told 'no'.
"But Evan, Grey is only gonna be here for a few days! Who knows when he'll visit again! Besides, you guys are just going to choose a horror movie anyway. No, thank you." I explain to him, trying to get my point across. I am in a great mood and I don't really feel like having another panic attack today. He nods his head in understanding, but I can't help but mentally wince when I see the slight disappointment in his eyes.
"Alright! Thank you so much for having me, but we should probably go before my parents come to collect us themselves." Grey says to my brothers, snapping me out of my momentarily dampened mood "You coming, smiley?" He asks as he gets up and tucks his chair under the table and putting our dishes in the sink. I follow after him, but not before giving a tight hug to each of my brothers.
We near the front door and are putting on our jackets before I remember something and peek my head around the kitchen corner, addressing my brother.
"Oh, Ez? Can I sleepover as well? The movies are probably going to finish late." I ask him, hope clear in my voice.
"You just have to cross the front yard..." Evan mumbles under his breath. He has been slightly grumpy this afternoon, and I don't know what has gotten into him. Hopefully, he will be back to his caring and happy self by tomorrow.
"Sure" Zeki grumbles, sounding reluctant. Once again, I don't see the scowl he directs at the person beside me and I make my way back to the front door with a skip in my step.
"Thanks!" I yell gleefully at him over my shoulder, hearing a faint 'you're welcome'.
We make our way to the house next door and Greyson makes a b-line to the living room to set up the movie, while I go look for Jack to say 'hi'. I find him in the kitchen, but unfortunately, he isn't alone. No, in here is also a very much naked Riley making a sandwich, the only piece of clothing on his body being his boxer briefs.
"Eeek! Riley, put some clothes on!" I complain squealing in embarrassment and looking anywhere but him.
"Seriously, Lu? We had baths together when we were babies." He says, and from the corner of my eye, I can see him giving me a deadpan look. I go to answer him with a sarcastic remark when I hear his father's deep chuckle. I turn to him and widen my eyes.
"Traitor! You're supposed to be on my side! I don't want my innocent eyes being corrupted by... that!" I exclaim, vaguely gesturing in my best friend's direction.
"Sorry, Tiny, but it is quite funny. He is right you know?" Jack says, humor shining in his eyes while giving me an apologetic smile.
For once, I don't have a good retort and I feel my cheeks start to heat up. I see Riley as a brother and only that, nothing more, but it's still weird to hear that ya know?
Thankfully, I am saved from this embarrassment by my guardian angel's voice, also known as Greyson.
"Violet, what's taking you so long? Get your butt in here so we can watch the movies! I'm not getting any younger!" He hollers from the living room. Not wasting a second, I speed walk out of the kitchen, hearing the faint chuckles of Ry and his father, no doubt having seen my colored cheeks,
How does the saying go? Saved by the bell...
