● The Fight ●

"I am sorry, I can't give you this book," he said. Saanvi fumed in anger. She didn't expect him to refuse. He refused to give book. Why can't he understand that I need to read this book today itself?

"Please try to understand, I need to read it today. From next week, I am not allowed to read novels and other books," she pleaded. He noticed that she was upset but he couldn't make fool of himself, again. He refused to even answer her. This provoked her further. Her eyes fell on his ID card.

"Name, Tharun Iyer. You are be a Tamilian, aren't you? No wonder you have so much of attitude."

That immature statement was enough to garner response from him. "Enna sonna?"

"I told that you Tamilians have too much of attitude," she repeated.

"As if you don't have," he remarked.

"I admit I have but not as much you people have. Demanding river Kaveri waters!"

Kaveri river water was a very sensitive topic between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. She flew from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. During summers when both the states have dearth of water, there would be fights, protests over whether Tamil Nadu should receive Kaveri waters or not.

These comments were enough to invite the wrath of the librarian; he came with an irritated face.

"Why are you both fighting? If you want to fight, get down at the next stop and fight as much as you want. From next time, don't bad mouth any state, community or religion. People like you grow up and become the cause of all stupid riots that place in our country. This Kaveri issue is because both the states don't know how to manage water efficiently. All they know is how to blame each other."

Realising their folly, they hung their heads in shame. His eyes fell on the book. "This is the book you were fighting for, isn't it?"

They nodded in agreement. He scratched his chin. "Then I must take this book. If this is torn, I am answerable to government."

Unfortunately, these teens didn't know that these things were to be reported to his senior and not to government. They were scared of these things being reported to government. Though Saanvi had a doubt about it, she kept it this matter to themselves.

Though they were transported to different worlds - both of them wanted to read that same book. Since Government of Karnataka wanted to promote Kannada literature, the number of Kannada books were almost double the quantity of English literature. So, they could afford only one set of particular series. The Adventures of Tintin was always in a huge demand, be it in library or bookstore or now, mobile library.

Saanvi looked at him with corner of her eyes. Please Lord, I pray that he never meets me again. Please do make sure that he doesn't read that book.

Tharun noticed that he was being glared. He knew the owner of those eyes, very well. He looked at all of a sudden, catching her off guard. Murugan! I pray that she never gets to read those last few pages. Never ever in her life.
