First school day (Young brothers)

Today was Angus' first day of school. Since the parents were at work and hadn't gotten time off, he went there with Malcolm. Mal held his hand and they entered the school yard. Angus had a large school cone in his hands and was wearing a little school uniform. His curls could be seen at the sides of his cap. If you put the school corn on the floor, it was almost bigger than him. Malcolm smiled at him.

"Mal?" Asked Angus with wide eyes. Malcolm looked down at him.

"What is Ang?" Malcolm brushed a curl from Angs face.

"I'm scared." Malcolm knelt in front of him.

"You don't have to, Ang. You're sure make new friends."

"Can you go with me? Parents go normally with their children."

"I can ask in the secretary's office, but I should actually have to go to my own class." Angus nodded sadly. They entered the building and Angus looked around the great hall. Malcolm, who had been at the school for two years, turned straight into a right-hand hallway and pulled Angus up large stairs. There was a narrow passage to the right that they went into. Malcolm stopped in front of a yellow door and knocked.

"Come in." They heard. Malcolm pulled him inside.

"Hello Mrs. Bauer." Malcolm said. She looked up from her typewriter and smiled.

"Ah. Hello Malcolm. What's up?"

"My brother is starting school today and our parents didn't get time off, so they couldn't come. Can I go with him? Only the first day." She hummed thoughtfully.

"Should I release you from class? On the first day of school? Do you think that's a good idea?"

"I'll go to my classroom before that."

"Okay." She typed something, took the slip of paper out of the machine and handed it to Malcolm. Mal thanked her and went out again.

"Can you come with me?" Asked Angus with big green eyes.

"Yes." Malcolm grinned. "But I have to go to my class first." He looked at a map and then went down further corridors until they turned left. There were a lot of children here, Malcolm's age or older. Angus held his brother's hand a little tighter. Malcolm smiled at him. Malcolm walked into a blue door and the children were screaming inside.

"Mal!" Bon shouted and ran up to him to hug him. "How long did it take you? I've occupied myself, you, Cliff and Phil a seat in the back."

"The last row?" Asked Malcolm.

"Yes exactly. Look." He pointed to the back row where two other boys were sitting. Angus already knew them. Bon, Phil and Cliff were his friends too.

"Well Ang? First day of school. Excited?" Bon asked.

"Like hell." Angus grinned.

"Listen, Bon, I'm not here today. I'm just supposed to give the note to the teacher and then I have to go back because I'm going with Ang." Malcolm said.

"Lucky you."

"Can you tell me then what he's been talking about?"

"No problem." They meandered between the tables to their seat. Phil and Mal hit. Angus rolled his eyes.

"AW! How cute are you!?" Squeaked a girl. Everyone looked at her. She stood next to Angus and looked at him in his little school uniform and school bag.

"Yes, it's nice that we've cleared that up, Olivia." Malcolm rolled his eyes and looked at the diary because he was on duty.

"You're just as cute as Malcolm was on the first day of school. But you're still a little cuter." Cooed a second girl who had come along. Angus was red and looked at his white sneakers.

"What are you doing here?" Asked Olivia.

"Mal is my brother." He said shyly.

"He's your brother?" She asked, looking at Malcolm, who had a pencil behind his ear and was flipping through the class diary.

"Mh." Angus hummed in agreement. "He's two years older." Malcolm came back, gave Phil the note, grabbed his bag and held out his hand to Angus.

"Are you coming Ang? You don't want to be late."

"Can I stay here?" He asked with wide eyes. The girls cooed again. Malcolm crouched down and put his hands on Ang's shoulders.

"No, you can't Ang. But I'm sure you'll make great friends too."

"But in my year there are only bitches." He moaned.

"Don't say that. And you can't know that, Ang. You only know three of them." Angus hugged him.

"Thank you." The girls had little heard eyes again. Malcolm got up, took Ang's hand and said:

"See you tomorrow guys." Then he walked out of the room with his brother.

They came back to the great auditorium. There were a lot of parents and their children here. Malcolm went to a large table and looked for his brother's name. Young was relatively easy to find because the name was way down.

"Here. Look Ang. You're in 1b." He pointed to a piece of paper. "And you have Mr Rösch. Be happy. He's a really nice teacher. But he's kidding about his students." Angus nodded. They went back and waited for the headmistress to come.

"Hello dear children. I call the classes!" She called. After an eternity, they finally heard: "And the last child for 1b is Angus Young." Angus looked at his brother with a smile. Malcolm grinned and pushed him over to the kids who were gathering for class. Angus went to them. A medium-sized man with glasses stood there as a teacher. They took a class photo with Angus at the front. The teacher called:

"I ask you to follow me." Which was directed to the parents. Then he went to a classroom. The young children followed him enthusiastically. Angus was a little unsure of himself, but just ran after the others.

*

Angus sat in the last row, in the row that was in front of the teacher's desk. So next to the window. A mother came with a girl and asked:

"Can Hanna sit here?" Angus nodded. The girl smiled shyly at him and sat down next to him.

"Hello, I'm Hanna." She said.

"I'm Angus Young." The parents were in the back of the classroom. Malcolm was sitting on the windowsill. Angus giggled when he saw him.

"Why is he here? Shouldn't he be in class? Do you know him?" Asked Hanna.

"He's my big brother. He was released for lessons because our parents couldn't come because of their stupid work."

"I'm sorry." She said.

"No problem."

"Well, hello dear class, I'm Mr Rösch. Your new class leader. If it goes well, I'll have you guys until you leave school." He stopped and looked back. "Malcolm, get off the windowsill we had that last year." Everyone looked to him. Malcolm jumped down and looked at the floor. "Come here. I need an assistant." Malcolm nodded and stepped forward. The children and parents watched him.

"What are you doing here?" Asked the teacher in a whisper.

"My brother is going to school and I'm here with him."

"Are you released from class?"

"Yes."

"OK. Can you write on the blackboard?" Malcolm nodded, put his cap on the teacher's desk and went to the blackboard.

"So, you're learning the following things this year. Malcolm, write down." Malcolm nodded and pulled the blackboard down towards him, since he wasn't tall.

"Numbers." Malcolm wrote it down. "Writing, reading, first arithmetic, body shapes, a little history, but it won't really start until next year, sports, music and other things." Malcolm wrote everything down. Angus stared at his skillful brother.

"How about you all introduce yourself?" Asked the teacher. The children nodded and got up one after the other to tell something about themselves. Then came Angus:

"Em. Hi. I'm Angus Young. I'm 6 years old. I love music. My favorite color is green and I live with my two big brothers and my parents."

"Well. Does anyone have any questions for Angus?" Asked the teacher. A girl with pigtails raised her hand. Angus called her up.

"What's the name of your brothers?"

"George and Malcolm."

"How they you like?" Angus looked helplessly at the teacher, who laughed and said:

"They're Youngs. You don't have to say anything else. George is already out of school. I never had him, but the other teachers said he was a decent student. Then we have Malcolm, who is a completely different story." He pointed to Malcolm next to him. "He's very good at music and history. Actually a nice boy, but many hate him because he can be very ironic. I'm looking forward to teaching another Young. When you're like your big brother, here." His hand was on Malcolm's shoulder. "Then we'll have a lot of fun because he never sat still and he still doesn't." The adults laughed. Malcolm said:

"Doesn't it matter whether I sit still or not? I mean while I'm around." Malcolm shrugged.

"And that's another way. Always be in right. I think you could have that too, Angus." The teacher grinned. The children laughed.

*

It went a little further before the photographer came. He took photos of the parents and their children. When it was Angus and Malcolm's turn, Malcolm simply stood behind his brother and put a hand on his shoulder. Angus grinned and held his school cone. On the second photo, Angus didn't know it was being taken, so he looked up at Malcolm. They got the black and white photos. Malcolm looked at them and laughed at the second.

*

After a long day, the two siblings went home.

"Still don't want to go to school?" Malcolm asked on the way home.

"Yes. But I want to be in class with you." Angus pouted.

"Then I'll fail a few times." Malcolm joked.

"You can?" Asked Angus with wide eyes.

"Yes, if you don't study well, you'll get stuck in grade at the end of the year."

"Would that mean we could be together?"

"Yes. But Ang. Unless I really fail, I don't want that. And listen. At some point, when we grow up, we're no longer together. Then I have a family and you have your own." Angus looked at him with watery eyes.

"But I don't want to be without you."

"Ang, you're going to marry a beautiful woman and maybe have a child or two and then you'll be just as happy. We'll definitely see us on your birthday or other celebrations." Angus nodded sadly. "Hey, I still love you. But it's normal that everyone will split up sometime."

(Now 1988.)

"And what did Uncle Angus do then?" Asked Cara, who was 9 years old, with wide eyes, while she held the hand of her little brother Ross. Malcolm, who was sitting in the backstage with his band friends and children, grinned at his daughter on his lap.

"Well, guess."

"He sabotaged your grades so that you failed and went to class with him!" Shouted 7 year old Ross. Malcolm looked at his brother and they both laughed.

"No he didn't. He knew that wouldn't have been good for him." Phil said with a wink.

"I'm outraged! I would never have beaten Angus!" Malcolm cried, giggling.

"You did it once." Brian countered.

"It was his own fault." Malcolm folded his arms over his chest.

"But the idea is not bad." Angus grinned. Ross smiled at him.

"Woe to you doing that to me!" Cara shouted. They laughed.
