WHEN THE GROUP OF FOUR managed to get back to the mess hall, everyone was scrambling around and chatting about the events that had occurred only minutes ago. There was a murderer on sight, and no one knew where.
The counsellor's were disciplining children, trying to keep everyone calm and safe in an orderly fashion, but everyone was visibly panicked and distressed, their emotions only bouncing off of each other, creating one big mess of chaos alarm and trepidation.
"Let's go! This is not part of the game! Go, guys! Go, go!" Gary yelled, beckoning kids into the mess hall while running a head count.
Mike and Kim ran hand in hand, as well as Ziggy and Nick, their grips tight on each other. They didn't want to accidentally lose one another in the swarm of campers.
When they got inside, Mike and Nick immediately ran to do their counsellor duties, checking kids for injuries and doing head counts.
A small, ginger girl latched herself onto Kim's waist and she recognised her as Anne Cullen. The girl was whimpering and was obviously scared. Kim felt herself grow protective of the girl, having seen her around camp being all bubbly and excited to now seeing her vulnerable and terrified.
"Hey, hey, it's okay... you're okay!" The blonde girl hugged Anne back, running her hand up and down her back, soothingly.
Kimberly looked over the ginger to make sure she didn't have any injuries and fortunately she didn't. Mike looked over at the two in admiration until Kim looked back over at him with a worried expression. 'I know.' He mouthed to her.
"Five, seven, eight, ten, fifteen... eighteen." Nick counted as he ran down the line of kids entering the hall. The lights went out and kids started screaming, including Anne. Kim picked her up and placed her on a table so she was away from commotion of rushing and afraid kids.
"Everyone stay calm! Everything' alright!" Nick yelled above the panicked screams and yells.
"You're okay. Shh." Kim hushed, pulling the young child into her chest, stroking her hair in attempt to calm her, and it worked.
The older girl was whipping her head around left right and center, her hair moving wildly. She was able to make out Mike's figure just across the room. "Hey, you'll be fine okay?" She said, letting go of the small camper and making her way over to the brunette boy.
He pulled her into a tight hug "You okay?"
She simply nodded in response. No one was okay. This whole situation wasn't okay. But the thing that made it worse for Kim was that she was personally involved. One of her closest and youngest friends was just murdered, and instead of being on the hunt to find the cynical killer, she was cooped up in a hall with a bunch of other fearful children.
Nick ran over to the pair, Ziggy by his side. They shared a knowing look when Mike asked the dreaded question: "How— How many?"
"Twenty-three." Nick reported, a concerned look on his face.
"That's thirty missing. At least!" Michael exclaimed, bringing his hands to clasp behind his head, expanding his diaphragm in hopes of getting more air.
"Where's Cindy, Joan. Wh— Where's Kurt?!" Kim shouted, her voice getting progressively louder. Ziggy held her shoulders telling her to calm down.
"I don't know, I haven't seen any of them." Nick informed them all. "Or Tommy or anyone!"
Mike picked up the phone in attempt to reach to other cabins but, of course, the line was dead. Kids were muttering about lights coming back on as the lights flickered into a dim source.
"We have way too many missing." Gary walked over to the four, mainly talking to Nick and Michael.
"Maybe they're looking for us." Kim told everyone, referring to Cindy, Kurt, Joan and Tommy. It's not that she didn't care about everyone else (even though she really didn't) she was just really concerned with the well-being of her friends.
"The line's dead." Mike told them. The lights came back on slowly and everyone was still panicking, sitting on tables, talking to their friends or crying.
"We have to go! We have to warn people!" Ziggy stuttered out, waves of nerves coming over her.
Her and Kim began walking to the door, Mike and Nick chasing after them. "I'm sure they heard the bell, hey!" Their lovers grabbed them by the shoulders.
"Kurt! Kurt is still out there!" Kimberly reminded him, trying to pull his hands away from her.
"The same Kurt you're just friends with?" Michael retorted, rage and jealousy filling him as Kurt was the only thing she was concerned about.
Kim rolled her eyes and attempted to walk past Mike, but he grabbed her arms and placed his hands on either side of her face. "Look, I'm sorry. That was low. I didn't mean it. Me, Nick and Gary will go!"
"-Me, Mike and Gary will go!"
The boys exclaimed at the same time.
"What?" the long haired boy questioned, wondering why he was just pulled into the situation.
"Please, just stay here." Mike begged with pleading eyes.
"I can't just sit here! My best friends are out there!" Kim denied, anger now filling her. All she wanted to do was save her friends.
"But I can't lose you, Kim! I just... I just can't. So please, for the love of God, stay here so I know you're safe and not gonna die!" Mike said, quite loudly actually, so majority of the campers was staring at them. "Okay? Please, let me do my job." He asked, but rather told her, pushing her hair behind her ear. "I'm gonna find Kurt, I'm gonna find Cindy. Just stay here and stay safe."
Kim looked conflicted, giving him a face to show her disappointment and annoyance but nodded anyways. He gave her a quick kiss in the forehead and an appreciative nod. Goode and Tepper pointed at Gary, telling him to come with them.
"Hey, you realise they're campers, right?" Gary pointed out, the two boys ignoring him.
"Look, you make for cabin one, I'll head to nine." Nick gave a flashlight to Gary and Mike took one for himself.
"I'll go to seven." He added.
"Bu— What if— What if the killers still out there!" Gary exclaimed, fear evident in his voice and expression.
"I'll go!" Kimberly immediately jumped up at the chance to search for her friends.
"No!" Mike immediately snapped, holding his hand out. "That's the whole point, Gary. Hey, everybody, stay here! Okay? Okay!" He yelled finally before leaving, Gary and Nick on his tail.
Ziggy and Kim stared towards the door, holding hands.
"Hey!" They heard a bratty voice push them around and into a wall. Sheila's two rats stood before them.
"Where is she, witches!" One of them spat aggressively.
"You kill her like you killed Jeremy?" The other said, glaring at them.
"What are you talking about?" The two yelled in sync, completely lost as they were pressured.
"Sheila!"
"Where the fuck is Sheila?!"
Looks of realisation hit them both, "Shit!" they yelled out, pushing past the duo and out the doors, closing them after.
"Nick! Nick! Mike! We forgot Sheila!" The blonde yelled out, looking around the open field.
The pair looked around into the night panting and stressing from sweat.
"Oh shit!" Ziggy yelled out.
"Okay, maybe she got out. You go check the outhouse and I'll look for anywhere else she might be." Kimberly ordered, turning to face her ginger companion.
"What! No, splitting up is a terrible idea, K!" Ziggy argued, shocked that splitting up was even a consideration.
"I promise that I'll meet you back here if I haven't found her or if I have, okay. I pinky swear." Kimberly breathed out, holding up her smallest finger.
Ziggy looked uneasily at it but they connected them anyways and reluctantly ran off in the opposite direction.
"Sheila!" Kimberly screamed at the top of her lungs, her heart racing with trepidation.
She had ran around most of the camp looking for the girl, her throat gone raw from yelling. She was beginning to give up until she saw a figure walking around behind cabin five. It was dirty and bloody and it held an axe but when she saw the hair she knew.
"Tommy?" she whispered out, she walked a bit closer. "Oh, Tommy, thank God. Me and some friends played a stupid prank on Sheila and I can't find her anywhere, can you please help me before I lose my shit!"
He didn't respond with words, only staring up at her with emotionless eyes. It seemed like he was brain dead, staring into her soul, but not looking. A crazy concept, to have iris' that stared not looked. "T-- Tommy?" He began trekking towards her, his heavy feet smacking the ground. "Tommy, what the hell! Snap out of it!"
But it was no use, he kept walking closer and closer, and then he began to jog. Kim whipped her head around looking for places to hide. She didn't know why she needed to hide from Tommy, but this was a flight or fight moment and Kimberly's body was telling her that she could not defend herself against a 5"11' giant who is welding an axe, so she just began running.
She found the sports hut and ran into it slamming the door shut and moving all the racks and equipment up against the door, muttering incoherent swear words. She crouched down in the corner, her hands over her mouth to try and quiet her breathing. His axe slammed on the door and she let out the loudest, spine-chilling scream ever. Someone nearby would've thought she was being hacked with the axe.
Outside the sports hut, Mike heard the scream and considered ditching his original quest to find the lost campers. It was when he recognised it to be the girl he loved, that the missing children were gone without a trace from his mind.
The worst only came to mind, that the psycho had found her and was killing her so he rushed to where he heard the sound. He ended up outside of the sports closet and saw Tommy Slater trying to hack the door down.
"Tommy, what the fuck is wrong with you, you crazy motherfucker!" Kimberly screamed, her voice trembling as she did so.
Mike was about to question the situation but when he saw all the dried blood on his clothes, it became apparent that Tommy had gone rogue. Tommy was a Shadyside killer.
