THE TWO GIRLS WERE STILL inside their cabin, Ziggy setting up the revenge prank and Kimberly reading one of her favourite books by Stephen King. they could hear the campers getting ready for the upcoming colour war but payed no attention to it, completely blocking out the sound of screaming children and chanting Sunnyvalers.
"What do you really think was up with Mary?" Ziggy asked suddenly.
Kim poked her head over the top of her book, looking over to her friend. "I don't know, she seemed fine when I went to see her. Although, she looked at me and Michael weirdly—"
"Probably because you're always arguing and all of a sudden he's bringing you into the infirmary, all worried and that." Ziggy snorted, shaking off the aching in her arm as she continued to turn the paint.
"Yeah... probably." Kim smiled slightly. "Maybe it's this whole Sarah Fier stuff. I mean, you hear the things kids say about Ruby Lane, how she was possessed, a psycho, she just snapped out of nowhere. What about you? Did she seem any different with you?"
"Yeah, kinda, she was acting all shady and shit. Like I found this book and it was open on a page about the witches mark, like Sarah Fier kinda stuff. And then she was all... aggressive when she put my bandage on, muttering about how ruby was so sweet and how she would never hurt anybody until that one night, you know."
Kim nodded, displaying her understanding and closed her book, putting it on her nightstand and standing up, stretching her body out. She walked over to Ziggy and looked in the bucket, seeing her mixing glue and red paint. "Carrie?"
The ginger looked up and smirked at her friend, "You know it."
"Honestly, probably one of my least favourites." The blonde admitted, shrugging her shoulders.
"Yeah, well, you always like the weird ones or the underrated ones so."
Kimberly rolled her eyes playfully and smiled over at her best friend. In all honesty, she was so glad she had Ziggy, because without her blue-eyed companion, she would have no one to make fun of Sunnyvalers with, no one to laugh at Cindy Bermans silly 'perfectionist bullshit view of the world' and no one to sit with and watch the world turn to hell. Without Ziggy, Kim would've never found who she truly was. Without Ziggy, Kim was lost.
She removed her gaze from the working girl and walked back over to her original space, picking her book up and continued reading before a thought popped into her mind, "Hey, what did the book say? You know, the one that Nurse Lane had."
"Oh, uh, something about, making a deal with the devil, Sarah Fier cutting off her hand in exchange for living forever, keeping a grip upon the land. Why?"
"Oh, it's just, my mum used to use Sarah Fier as a dumb excuse to get me to sleep, if I didn't sleep, I'd see all of Sarah's victims and her, it worked a dream but... it was so... so-"
"So stupid" Ziggy finished.
Kim laughed, "Yeah, stupid. It went something like they thrust their fists against the post and still insist they see her ghost."
"Wow, what nonsense." Ziggy scoffed.
"For real. The mad thing is, it actually worked."
The two continued to laugh about anything and everything until Kimberly went silent causing Ziggy to look over at her, asleep, the book lying open on her chest. The Berman girl smiled to herself, she thought she was the luckiest person in the whole world. To have a friend like Kim truly is a gift, one that would do anything and everything for you, one that can take jokes, one that doesn't moan and complain about every little thing you do, one that is always there for you. The girls were inseparable, they believed they would do everything together, get married together, have kids together, die together, live long and fulfilling lives with each other. And they deserved it, because they've been through hell and back with each other. And when someone's witnessed you at your worst and your best, you trust them with your life.
A LOUD KNOCKING ON THE door was heard a few minutes later, causing the Berman to sigh in frustration. "Go away, Cindy!" She heard groaning and looked over to Kim to see her moving in her sleep, waking slightly, "Hey no, shh, go back to sleep. You need this."
It was true, Kim hadn't slept in a week, she was exhausted, mentally and physically. She just had this feeling in her stomach that something bad was going to happen, like an empty void that she just couldn't seem to fill, no matter how much bad luck she seemed to have.
"It's us! It's nick and Mike." Two voices called from outside.
"Go away boys!" Ziggy repeated, looking at the door in confusion. Nick opened the door anyways and Kim groaned. "Why is everyone being so loud" She murmered out in annoyance.
"Hey. Sleep."
The blonde girl huffed, "What do you think I'm trying to do, mom."
The two boys had walked into the room, both speaking a loud 'woah' as they saw the decorations and words written on the walls.
"I like what you've done with the place" Nick said sarcastically, shutting the door behind him.
Whereas Mikes' attention went directly to the sleeping girl. You know, he would say she looks quite... quite cute when she sleeps. Definitely more peaceful and less murderous.
"This wasn't me, and you, dingus" Ziggy directed at Mike, who glanced over to her, giving a sign of acknowledgment. "Stop creeping on Kim. She's trying to sleep, she hasn't gotten a good night in about a week, so please. Let. Her. Sleep."
Mike raised his hands in surrender and sat down next to the girl, placing her head in his lap. He gently stroked his hand through her hair as she slept, her mouth partly open. Ziggy looked at the pair curiously.
"I'm shocked." Nick continued, ignoring his friend that had walked over to Kim. "Ziggy is a witch bitch, Kimberly sucks cocks in hell, jeez." he spoke in disgust.
At the mention of her name, Mike looked up to the wall, noticing all the horrible things written about the girls. When he saw the things written about Kimberly he was fuming. Ff he was a cartoon, there would surely be steam coming out of his ears.
The Goode and Berman pair continued to talk, well, Nick tried to be civil, Ziggy was just throwing attitude.
Mike kept stroking Kimberly's hair, and playing with the ends of it from time to time, she moved a bit and muttered out a few words. He hushed her and dropped his hand to his side. The girl turned around so she was facing his chest. Obviously, she felt quite uncomfortable in that position so she switched back over so she was facing the door. Mikes arm was drooped over her waist, his hand laying just before hers. She moved it slightly so they were touching, something must have clicked inside her and realised it was hand so she grabbed it. Mikes ears turned pink and the action, he was finally getting somewhere with her, sure she probably thought is was Ziggy or Kurt but it was something.
"Yeah, second favourite after Salem's Lot."
Mike heard as he zoned back into the conversation, he looked down into the bucket to see Ziggy mixing red paint and glue, reminding him a lot of the Stephen King classic, Carrie. The brunette boy took the chance he had to look at the things surrounding Kim's bed. A book lay face down on beside them so he picked it up The Shining. The cover read. The corner of his lips turned up slightly and he glanced over to his long term crush. 'Definitely a Kimberly book' He thought to himself. He also noticed two picture frames on her nightstand, one of her, Ziggy and Cindy, presumably when they were younger, looking at their appearances.
The eldest of the three had her hair in pig tails, she wore a pink skirt with bees sewn into it. Ziggy, the only reason he could tell it was her was because of the red hair, had dungarees on and a yellow, white striped shirt underneath. But the one that really caught his attention was the blonde in the middle, her smile was so big and she was missing a few teeth, her hair was down and she was wearing dungaree-shorts with green, white striped shirt under it. The girls had been friends since they were three years old.
In the second frame, Kim was next to a boy with light brown hair and they were sharing a cone of candy floss. Mike recognised it to be Kurt and he got slightly jealous that it wasn't him in the picture but oh well.
Next to the picture frame, Mike saw a purple cow plushie, he looked across the room to Ziggys nightstand to see a yellow cow plushie. It was cute, he thought, the fact they had matching shirts when they were three and now have matching teddies.
"So you decided to stalk us." the Tepper boy heard Ziggy say.
"Check in on you." He interrupted.
Nick and Ziggys heads turned over to the direction of mike and the latter rolling her eyes before she spoke. "What are you doing here? Honestly, are you just here so you can watch my best friend sleep? You're always creeping on her. It's just... weird."
Mike had no answer to that, he wasn't stalking her, he just... wanted to get to know her better. And so far he knew that she liked archery, her favourite colour is green, her and Ziggy are best friends, she loves Stephen King and her birthday is November 19th.
"Clearly you don't need our assistance all good. Go ahead. Carrie on." Nick smirked at the ginger girl. "Mike, let's go"
The brunette boy looked down to Kimberly, and shifted her slightly so she was back on the bed. Now she was awake. "What now mom, I'm trying to get my beauty sleep."
'You don't need it' Mike thought.
Ziggy chuckled at the girl as she rose onto her hands and opened her eyes. She noticed Mike and Nick in their room. "Woah! What are they doing in here?!"
"Stalking us." "Checking in on you." Nick and Ziggy spoke at the same time.
Kim raised her eyebrows at the pair and looked towards Mike, she raised a finger pointing in between the couple. He shrugged his shoulders and she laughed, lowering her head, hair falling from behind her shoulders.
The boys walked away and Kim got up to stretch. Ziggy put the mixing stick down and said, with a lot of attitude, "What's your idea"
"Wow Zig, it's like you don't even want their help" Kim laughed.
Nick held up some keys, rattling them together and mike automatically knew what he was talking about, even if he didn't fully know the context behind this. "Science and nature" he spoke.
