XVII - THE BIG UNEASY

   "Enough with all the racket!"

It was early when Audrey came out of her room that morning, looking over the balcony to see the source of the noise Klaus was complaining about. Seeing Genevieve at his side, the Gilbert girl rolled her eyes, before focusing on Elijah who was behind the renovations taking place. She instantly saw his look of distaste toward the witch, his smile appearing when he locked eyes with Audrey, who smiled back at him tiredly.

"Is there a problem, brother?" Elijah called up to Klaus, before glancing at the workers. "Gentlemen, please." To which they stopped what they were doing, taking a break so the four could talk in peace.

"I agreed to a general sprucing up." Klaus pointed out, as the three made their way downstairs. "Not a bloody three ring circus."

"Are you feeling okay?" Audrey looked at him, tilting her head. "I swear I just heard you, of all people, lecture someone about going overboard."

Klaus sent her a flat look, and Audrey just smiled sweetly in reply, Elijah snickering as he wrapped his arms around her. "Marcel and his minions abused our home for the better part of a century." He pointed out. "Now, you might be content to live in squalor. I'm not."

"I agree with your brother." Genevieve cut in, causing Audrey to frown at her. "It's a new era in the French Quarter. This place could use a makeover."

Klaus glanced at the witch, amusement and knowing appearing on his face. "Careful, Elijah. When this one agrees with you, it's a sure sign she wants something."

"Actually I do have a request." Genevieve admitted to them, her focus mainly on Elijah. "I'm told our coven hasn't been able to celebrate feast days in the open since Marcel restricted the use of magic. Now with the peace, I'd like to change that."

Elijah raised a brow at her. "Am I to assume you have a certain feast day in mind?"

"La Fête des Bénêdictions." Genevieve answered. "Feast of the Blessings. In the past, members of the community offered witches gifts in exchange for blessings. We'd like to use it as a forum for introducing our young Harvest girls to society."

"She's actually serious." Audrey muttered, rolling her eyes at the idea.

Elijah seemed just as unimpressed, looking at the red haired woman with a blank expression. "So your coven attempted to destroy my family-- and you yourself held my siblings in unspeakable torment, and most likely aided Celeste in what she did to my beloved-- and you would like a party for the witches?"

Klaus chuckled at his brother, he and Audrey perching themselves at the bar as they watched. "I've made my amends with your brother." Genevieve pointed out, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why don't you think it over?" She offered, before she made her way out of the compound.

"Oh, don't be such a stiff, Elijah." Klaus piped up after a moment, pouring himself a drink. "The tourists love a good festival. Besides, what better way to cement the solidarity than a show of faith toward a onetime enemy?"

"A onetime enemy with whom you've grown rather nauseatingly intimate." He mused.

Klaus just smirked. "Well, who said maintaining alliances can't be fun?"

"There's so many levels of wrong in that sentence, I'm not even sure where to start." Audrey said, slapping his arm as he just continued to smirk.

Elijah crossed his arms, giving his younger brother a firm look. "One would think you'd be a little more interested in attending to the needs of the mother of your child."

"So, she's the reason behind this oh-so-thoughtful renovation?" Klaus asked, though he already knew the answer. The Gilbert girl frowned at his attitude, knowing it should be him paying the attention to Hayley she and Elijah were. "The truth is, the mother of my child is werewolf royalty. She's far safer in the Bayou with her pack than she would ever be here with us." Downing his drink, he placed the glass down and made his way toward the exit as he continued. "Don't worry. I'll bring her home before the birth. No child of mine will be born in a swamp."

"I suppose that's progress." Audrey said, glancing at Elijah.

"Yes, small, but progress nonetheless." He agreed, and gently pressed a kiss to her lips. "It appears I need to go inform the other factions of the witches request. Will you be alright?"

"Go." She said softly. "I'll take over watching over the three ring circus, as he so nicely put it."

Elijah's smile grew and kissed her again, Audrey slowly wrapping her arms around his neck as she melted into his touch.

Though none of the factions were pleased about the party, they all agreed to send a representative to the event, after some convincing from Elijah. Genevieve was more than pleased she'd gotten her way, and that evening, the streets of the Quarter were packed with tourists watching the parade take place. The three resurrected Harvest girls were the stars of the event, each dressed in colors to represent different elements, sat in thrones on a float above the rest of the witches.

Audrey made her way toward the entrance of the party, pausing when she noticed Hayley walking toward her. "No date?" She asked, Hayley rolling her eyes at her. "What? I assumed Jackson would be with you, with how attached you two were the other night."

"Elijah said a representative, so I volunteered." She shrugged. "And we weren't attached."

"Mhm." Audrey hummed. "For the record, he seems like a good guy."

The Marshall girl just bit her lip, smiling a small smile. "Yeah, he is."

"My love." Elijah smiled, taking Audrey's hand and kissing the top of it, as the two girls found him waiting by the entrance. His eyes met with Hayley's, and he smiled with some confusion on his face. "Strange." He commented. "I thought you'd be in the company of your colorful friends."

Hayley rolled her eyes again, Audrey trying hard to hide her amusement. "You asked for a representative for the werewolves, so take me or leave me." She stated bluntly, before walking ahead inside.

"It's going to be a long evening, isn't it?" Audrey mumbled, as the couple followed her inside.

Elijah sighed with a small nod. "Unfortunately so."

The main party was closed off from the tourists and general public, only members of the factions in attendance, with Francesca Correa the representative for the humans. With a drink each, the couple wandered around the party together, Elijah making sure that everyone was behaving and sticking to the terms of the peace they'd made.

Gathering everyone's attention, Genevieve smiled as she stood in front of the three Harvest girls, who sat in the same thrones from the parade behind her. "Welcome." The red headed witch greeted. "As is our time-honored tradition, you are all welcome to deliver your offerings. It is our custom that no one should be turned away, no blessing be denied."

Guests line up one by one to deliver their offerings to the girls, placing a gift at their feet one at a time. Though, it was clear something was going on, as people were stopped from giving gifts to Davina. Instead, the attendants got people to give them to the other two girls, leaving Davina near tears as this carried on and on.  Audrey frowned as she noticed, and as she saw Davina get up and walk away, she removed herself from the line and followed after her.

"Davina." She said, gently grabbing her shoulder to stop her.

Davina blinked back some tears, clearing her throat. "You're her." She muttered, giving her a wary look. "Audrey. The one with the Mikaelsons."

"We never properly met, I know." Audrey nodded, understanding why she looked at her the way she did. Davina didn't have a good history with Klaus and Elijah, especially with everything that happened involving the Harvest. The young girl was bound to be angry and wary of them, or anyone that associated themselves with them. "But you deserve a gift just as much as those other girls." She said softly, and handed her the box. "It's not much, just a simple bracelet, but it's yours."

The Claire witch stared at her in disbelief, but didn't get chance to say anything as Josh approached them. "Josh." She blinked, finally pulling her gaze off of Audrey. "What are you doing here?"

"What, are you kidding?" Josh smiled. "No way I'd miss out on your big day. Besides, music, wind, fire? The club kid in me is, like, in heaven." His face falls slightly, as he clocks onto the sadness on Davina's face. "You don't look like you're having much fun, though." He gently wrapped an arm around her. "Hey. Come on. Let's get out of here."

Before he could lead her away, Klaus appeared in front of them. "Joshua." He begins, Josh going pale instantly. "What a fortunate coincidence, finding you here. We have unfinished business."

   "Nik--"

Davina glared at him, cutting Audrey off before she could try and talk Klaus down. "You need to leave here. Right now."

"Now, to be fair, love, you're not quite as powerful as you once were, are you?" Klaus was unfazed by her cold look. "You're in no position to give orders." Rushing over to Josh, he grips him by the back of the neck, walking him back in the direction of the party. "Come along, lad."

"Klaus!" Audrey hissed, but was ignored once again, Davina quickly following after them.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please." Klaus addresses the room, as he pulled Josh to the bottom of the stairs. Soon enough, all eyes at the party were on them. "We are gathered here today to pay homage to our beloved witches, but one very special witch has been utterly ignored. That seems a little unfair to me." He turns to Davina, holding out a small box to her.

Davina shook her head in disgust. "No. I don't want your gift."

"I understand why you would reject me, given our past." Klaus admits, lowering the box as he looked at the crowd. "In truth, many of us here today have been wronged in the conflict which my brother's treaty ended. Your friend Josh was involved in a plot to kill me. It would be well within my right to execute him here and now. But, in the spirit of solidarity, and for your favor, Davina, I hereby pardon him. Josh from this day forward, you have nothing to fear from me. Please." As Josh and Davina stared at him in shock and surprise, Klaus hands the box over to Davina, which she reluctantly accepts this time, before walking away and leaving the pair alone.

The party continued after the scene that Klaus made, Davina and Josh not hanging around after the gift they received, which turned out to be the spell to make daylight rings. Audrey made her way back to Elijah after that, the two looking in confusion as band of drummers takes everyone attention, marching down the stairs as they played to the guests. Hayley looked just as confused as joined the couple, raising a brow at them, only to realize they knew as little as she did.

Once the song was over, the lead drummer looked out at the crowd as he addressed them. "Happy Fête des Bénédictions."He announced. "We have a message for all of you from Marcel Gerard."

The sound of Marcel's name made everyone freeze, whispers beginning among everyone in disbelief. Instead of saying anything else, the leader drummer pulled a razor out from his pocket, the rest of the band copying his actions. Holding their wrists out in front of them, with no look hesitation, they slight their wrists without even wincing in pain. The blood dripped onto the floor, and instantly, the vampires in the room began to react. Their faces transformed as they breathed heavily, each of them just barely stopping themselves from rushing to feed on the drummers.

Elijah stepped in front of the drummers, looking around at the present vampires firmly and calmly. "Control yourselves. This is a vulgar trick." He shouts to the crowd. "We do not violate our agreement."

Suddenly, the lights go out, and that was when chaos ensued. "Hayley!" Audrey quickly grabbed onto her arm, pulling her close in the darkness, as screams of pain and fear sounded throughout the room.

"Audrey!" Hayley cried out, gripping onto her hand as they tried to back away from the feeding vampires.

"Audrey!" Audrey heard Elijah's voice call out, but she didn't get a chance to respond, Hayley being knocked to the ground pulling her down with her.

After a few moments, the lights came back on, and blood and bodies covered the ground. Audrey didn't focus on the aftermath, and focused her attention on Hayley, who looked slightly dazed. "Are you alright?" She asked quickly, her eyes finding the bleeding cut on her head. "Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"No." Hayley swallowed hard, shaking her head. "No, no, I'm fine." She assured her, not hesitating to take her hands and be helped to her feet.

"Audrey." Elijah appeared at their sides in an instant, his eyes checking her over in worry. Seeing no injuries, he cupped her face gently. "Are you alright?" He asked softly, kissing her forehead in relief.

"I'm fine." She breathed out, closing her eyes for a moment.

"Audrey. Elijah." Hayley mumbled, nodding ahead of them when they looked at her.

On the wall in front of them, the words THERE WILL BE NO PEACE, was written in blood and dripping down the bricks.

Another chapter done, four more to go. This took a lot longer to get posted then planned, but after a short break from wattpad, I'm back to updating again.

I'm hoping I can get these four chapters written, edited, and posted over the course of this weekend. It is achievable, if I get it done is another story entirely, but I'm going to try. Then we can finally move onto season two, which I am so looking forward to. Not a lot happened this chapter, it was a lot of just sticking to the script and moving the plot along, but exciting things are coming soon.

I hope you all enjoyed!
