⭐️ 67: Lynn & Harry ⭐️
Lynn said, "Looks can be deceiving. I can see now that moving you in here might be a huge mistake. Maybe we need to slow it down a bit. Just a few weeks ago I didn't like nothing about you. But you're the woman I've secretly loved since my first trip to New Orleans for my first taste of gumbo.
"It doesn't matter, Lynn. We can get beyond that.
"Welp, blow me down," Harry interrupted. "Mama, you're really breaking my heart. I stand here and observe how eager and attentive you are towards your fake ass girlfriend that slandered you on Good Morning America. And I'm your son that never received that type of attention.
"I was by your side during your ordeal, baby. That's not true.
"Physically, yes, but not in the true essence of it. You were hoping that I never remembered who you were. You were counting on it. I didn't even remember who you were. Initially. I thought you were one of the nurses."
"If we're going to help Marcus. We also gotta help Lynn."
"We've been helping Lynn, but she continues to bully me in indirect ways and you won't even call her on it."
"No, not that kind of help."
There was a knock on the door.
"That's Charles."
"Our lawyers?"
"Can you let him in, Lady?"
Silently brooding, Lady answered the door. Charles entered without acknowledging her.
"Lynn, it's late and I can't represent you."
"Shush, brotha. I want to show you something."
Charles and Harry barely looked at each other.
"You'll never get the draws, nigga."
"Who said I'm interested?"
Lynn handed Charles a letter from Marcus Johnson.
After reading, mumbling, Charles said, "I know what to do. Everyone, put aside your differences and listen closely."
Sqware's Visitor
Jackson Maximum Prison
Charles visited Square in prison per Marcus's letter. Square, clean cut, sat before them. He was the top dog at the prison.
"Charles. You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, Square. I have here with me my legal defense team. Jerrald and my secretary, Bonnet.
They all shook hands. "Howdy. But I don't understand. So let's make this brief. Got shmoney to make up in chea."
"We understand that you have life without parole."
"Yes."
"How's that going for you?"
"Its hell. I mean, I understand why I'm in here, but at the time I killed ole boi, I was angry, hurt and embarrassed. Plus I was heavily medicated on a new drug from my doctor called BreinHrt."
Charles mouth fell open. BreinHrt was a new medicine back in the day that supposedly helped bypolar disorder patients...
The drug was recalled a few months after Square was sentenced to life in prison.
Charles thought to himself.
Charles said, "What if I can get your conviction overturned."
"How? I mean, sounds like you're grasping at straws."
"Its s longshot, but it might work." Square kept gazing at Jerrald and Bonnet. "Y'all look familiar asf."
Bonnet smiled and behind her bifocals, patting her wig. Jerrard looked at him behind his his tinted shades, handsone with a mini afro, but he kept taking notes after giving a discreet smile.
Charles looked back at Square because every second counted.
He had no time to sit there and be jealous over Harry and Marcus's relationship, even though him and Marcus had been secretly seeing each other before Marcus went to prison the first time.
Before Marcus was going to anger management classes after he was released from prison.
Harry was the anger management teacher.
Imagine Charles's surprise when he found out that a man that asked for his hand in marriage turned around and started screwing the man, Harry, whose husband, Jonathan, had just died while he was coma.
Charles had to put his differences aside. It was hard to do.
He had to get Marcus out of prison. Off Death Row. Because deep down Marcus was a great man, a king, a Negus. And Charles had no time to waste with a prosecution team slander his name in the news, off the strength of his father's death. Coming off being accused of killing his father with his bare fists when his father found out that he was gay.
Thank God for his father's letter. His father's letter a judge read before it was sent to Marcus, exonerating him.
Charles cleared his throat. "Okay, let's get to business. We're here to make you an offer. As you may well know, because it's national news, and I know all inmates pay attention to what's going on in the news, I am representing Marcus Johnson. He is on trial for allegedly murdering Bob Grimes. Bob Grimes was allegedly trying to rape and murder a guy named Harry West."
Square's eyes sparkled at the mention of his son's name, but he kept quiet. Never let the right hand and the left get too aquainted.
Charles continued. "Harry West was previously in the news because his husband Jonathon died after Bob Grimes SUV slammed into the back of their car while a lady named Lynn was attacking them with her Bible because she didn't agree with that lifestyle."
"I'm well aware of that case. My heart goes out to Harry and Jonathan. But what does that have to do with me?"
"My legal office was told that you and Marcus were cellmates..."
"Yea, for a great while."
"What kind of person was he?"
Square relived all the trauma Marcus put him through back when they were in the same prison. Square was the Institutionalized King. The Big Kahuna. Until Marcus showed up and forcibly introduced him to some new things and it wasn't nothing to shake roses at.
I ain't no snitch. "He was a good dude. Believed in helping those who couldn't fight or fend for themselves. In fact he protected a lot of people in prison. He didn't believe in bullies being vindicated for preying on the weak."
"Would you be willing to testify in court, be character witness? If you do this...I can help you get that life sentence severely reduced."
Square smiled. "When do we start?"
