Chapter 1: That's My Name
(A/N: starts with the 9th Doctor)
The Doctor stepped out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. looking around the place he had landed. it was farmland, just fields, trees, around the place. In front of him was an old house, abandoned most likely, seeing how most windows were broken and the place was covered in vines. He took a deep breath.
"November 12, 2003." He looked around. "Countryside of England." He shivered. "And is it ever chilly." He turned back to the T.A.R.D.I.S. "Why'd you bring me here?" The Doctor questioned the blue police box. Nothing happened. "Whatever, I'll check the house first."
The Doctor walked up to the house, thinking it would just open, he turned the knob and pushed. But mysteriously, it was locked.
"Weird, you'd think that a house that's been abandoned for this long would've been open to anybody." Taking out the sonic screwdriver, he opened it with ease and walked in, looking around the two story house. The Doctor walked around investigating, trying to figure out why- in the many worlds there are- would the T.A.R.D.I.S. bring him here. He came across the kitchen of the old house, finding some wrappers of food.
"Someone, is living here." As soon as the Doctor said that, he heard a scream. The Doctor ran to where the scream was coming from, which was upstairs, and nearly tripped on the way up. He got to a hall that had 6 doors.
"Okay, so Eenie, Minee," the Doctor pointed to the only closed door in the hall, "you." He quickly went up to the door and found it locked. He rolled his eyes, used the sonic and went inside. The Doctor stopped dead in his tracks seeing that a little girl, was lying in the corner of the room, in a makeshift bed, drenched in cold sweat. She was thrashing around, letting out sobs and whimpers. She finally shot up from the bed screaming.
"Whoa, whoa, hey now. Calm down." The Doctor said going toward the small child in front of him, that was shaking from the cold, and/or from the nightmare she was having. When the child's eyes saw the Doctor, she screamed and cowered under the rags she used as blankets. The Doctor finally came to the bed and he kneeled before it so he could see the girl better. He lifted a small corner of the blanket but it was quickly shoved back down by the girl under it.
"Hey, there's no need to be that way." The Doctor thought for a moment on what he said. "Okay, maybe there is, but, I'm here to help."
The girl peeked from under the blanket.
"Something tells me you've been having nightmares, right?"
The girl had her whole head out from under the blankets, she slowly nodded.
"Right, do you know what might be causing them?"
The girl slowly shook her head. She now had her upper half showing. She only had a nightie on, and it was sleeveless, she shivered and you could see that she was freezing. The Doctor looked at the girl noticing this, and he shivered himself.
He held out his hand, waiting for the girl to take it. The girl just stared at it. "C'mon now, I'm going to take you somewhere warm." The girl reluctantly put a small, cold, and clammy hand into the Doctor's big one. The Doctor took off his jacket, and put it around the girl. She was so small in it that the bottom of the jacket reached down to her knees. She was surprised, but, when she felt the warmth of it, she put her arms inside the sleeves-which she had to end up but bunching up just so her hand could reach out of the end- and put her hand back into the Doctor's. They both took a step forward and the girl nearly fell, but the Doctor caught her before she could.
"Would you mind if I carried you?" The Doctor asked kneeling down before the girl so they could see eye to eye. The girl shook her head and The Doctor picked her up bridal style. The girl snuggled into the Doctor's warm chest, for she hasn't been this warm in ages, and she thought she'd never be able to get this warm again. The Doctor stepped outside and the headed to the T.A.R.D.I.S. He opened the door and walked in, setting the girl down on the pilot seat.
"I'll be right back with some blankets." The Doctor left the girl in the seat going to get blankets, where she looked around wide eyed when noticing that this was way bigger than it did on the outside.
The Doctor came back with some blankets, wrapping the little girl in them. The girl snuggled into them and gave a brief smile.
"Now, introductions, well, I'm the Doctor. What's your name?" The girl looked at the Doctor.
"F-Fern...that's m-my name."
