Chapter 16: Lonely Roads -- 002
I moved away, armed myself duly, and then returned to keep watch and monitor things until the fit hour.
For hours I remained on lookout, patiently waiting for the sun to die out, only to be replaced by the darkness.
In those moments of tormenting watch, I was able somewhat to understand the defences of these hostiles. So, as soon as the darkness had come, I disappeared into it to begin the onslaught.
I moved furtively, knocking down reconnaissance guard while purchasing my way unto the huts.
With courtesy as a stalking predator, I drove deeper; at some point tasked at others, having no other option than pushing my blades through to maintain my secrecy.
I remained that shadow swallowed by the darkness - a silhouette, till I had found my way into the stable of horses. Hours spent in hiding and watch was able to present me sheer idea of the background of the gathering I now inhabited. And following of course my stratagem, the stables was in fact the ideal place to start.
Within the stable, canopied by thatch roof and walled by mud bricks...... I yet shared company with the beast as they munched on straws and stacks of hay. I began quickly gathering the straws together, and once I had done this, I cast down the fire from the torch that laid within the hut. And before the catastrophe had been provoked and grown, I vanished.
Gradually had the fire begun its growth until what seemed a little flame had become a blaze. Eating through the thatch hut like it were nothing but a sheet, the ravaging fire turned the panicky horses muddled. Their confusion bore true restlessness and being yet too fearful to be swallowed by this cruel, enormous fire, they fought on aggressively till they broke their way out in freedom.
The turmoil was increasing; a fountain of fire and the uncontrollable fleeing beasts. Still, I needed the chaos to be pervasive.
The hostiles had left their stations and rushed for the path of the blaze. This was the greatest distraction I needed.
While they broke from all points and converged before the fire that now scoot from hut to hut, I drove out from the darkness and rushed for Dakors hut. I had claimed the lives of few hostiles in the act and my drive now was more purposeful than ever.
I would make it into that hut and while am alone with the maniac, I would recompense vengeance on him.
So was my objective, and this would I have accomplished. But in a flash, broke out the huge man from the hut as well; the turmoil my supposition for his abrupt rush.
I was merely few feet to making it in when he had come out, and on either side were his associate, cruelly glaring men.
"Dorack!" He said faintly, fear enveloping his word.
Now I was wedged in the middle of Dakors trusted comrades and the violent number of distracted guards still to join in the confrontation. It wouldn't take long before they too got alarmed and charged on me. Thus, I had just but a moment to deliver my brutal verdict.
In a blink, Dakors men came at me........but ruthless and enraged, I disarmed them both easily and sent my blade sternly at them; one to the throat, and the other beneath jaw.
Sadly yet, their dying cry had alas made the alarm to the others.
Dakor stood completely beweirded, and then suddenly made his decision after a failed attempt in his hurled blade. He turned around and began to flee. But as soon as I caught this, I fastened a dagger quickly at him. It had knocked him to the thigh with savage precision and forced him to the fall. Then in an instant, rushed I to make my kill.
But Dakor, always ready to ruin my earnest efforts; he pushed his firearm at me..........and I was lucky to have escaped that violent shot in a swift coast.
Before I could make my stand now, I felt his hard fist pound into my chin. It had come few more times before I fought the sequence to an end and came back to control.
After delivering series of brutal blows to the maniac, I drew out a blade from my thigh strap. I was seeking to push it into him......but the bastard was striving earnestly to ruin my intentions; harder than I could comprehend his desires to live.
It was indeed an aggressive struggle!
Abruptly, I heard the sound of charging feet and gutteral cries from behind drawing in an insane rush. Impulsively, I pulled from the struggle with Dakor, drew out another blade, and then knocked down the first unfortunate man with a simple hurl.
I was seeking to return to Dakor when he delivered his cold blow, and then slipped away from me.
Blade sweeping clean against face, I was lucky the cruel piece did not cross my eyes. A swift brush across left eyebrow and tending for my sight, was the blows effect.
Their was little time to reassemble and return to Dakor, for in a moment, I had been surrounded by four hard men and more were far and earnestly charging for us.
The first of these cruel men had driven for me in a forward thrust, but with a simple side step, I evaded the attack.......and then pushing out a blade through my sleeves, I cut his throat so that his hot blood was spouting upon my fist. I seized the fallen mans blade, and before the others had come on me, I had readied myself for the fight.
I contended these ones a short while, hoping to be rid of them in time so I could return to finishing Dakor. But my world came falling apart when from behind me I heard the neigh of a horse.
I turned around as quickly as I could command, to see Dakor mounting rashly the beast and striving to escape. Impulsively and with all the rage that was yet in me I drove my blade through the foolish men. Once I was rid of their plague, I picked up Dakors fallen rifle and chased after him....but what was I before a fit horse of well stamina.
Before my eyes, I watched Dakor ride away, escaping into the darkness, and from behind, his men calling and shooting.
Disappointed by how things had turned out, I knew I couldn't face this brutal men who had reformed and were anxiously seeking the taste of gore. So like Dakor, I ran before they could get to me, escaping as well into the darkness.
This was a frustrating end for me. My loss would only fan my rage.
I was so close to ending the coward, and like a fool, I let him slip through my hands and into darkness...again.
