Chapter Three

☸ About Us ☸

Tobias yawned as he stretched out in his seat. He glanced at his watch and leaned back again. The class was supposed to start at 8am, but it was now 8:30, and he couldn't stop the next yawn from rolling out of his mouth.

Glancing around the lecture theatre, he could saw many others had the same idea as him, as they buckled down into their seats to close their eyes - some leaning backwards and sinking in while others leaned forwards, their foreheads laying on their forearms. Sure, they could leave whenever, but this lecture room had been booked for their class, and it was warm and quiet. What better place to catch up on the hours they had missed?

Placing his elbows on the table, Tobias ran a hand through his brown hair and surveyed the top rows of the class. On the opposite end he saw the girl from the coffee shop from the night before. Arabella, he remembered. Tobias watched with a hint of amusement as instead of taking a well needed break, hell, even he was tired! She was, instead, writing furiously from a book laying in her lap.

He leant his head on his palm as he continued to watch her and noticed that whenever she read something she didn't understand, she'd bring her pen to her lips and close her eyes. Perhaps for a second, or perhaps it was longer, Tobias' groggy brain didn't know, but when she opened them again, the light on her face told Tobias that she had gotten it. And he enjoyed watching her.

All of a sudden he saw her head shoot up and look in his direction and he scrambled to look forward, instead he moved his elbow too fast and ended up knocking it against the pull out desk and his arm began to throb.

Tobias went to look at her, placing a sheepish grin on his face as he turned, but what he found was the seat flipping back up as Arabella left the room. He looked at his watch again, 9:00. The class was over and everyone else began to shuffle slowly as they woke from their naps and packed up, but Tobias' mind was still on the girl who had worked through their empty class and left so fast. He absentmindedly continued packing up, his thoughts running behind the auburn haired girl who always had somewhere to be.

Arabella packed her bag as she continued to walk away from the big doors that led into the theatre, that were now consistently swinging back and forth as more people walked out. The lecturer hadn't shown and Arabella thanked whatever it was that had kept her, because it meant that she had gotten an extra hour of quiet, peaceful work done and one less lesson to catch up on. To her, she had hit the jack pot this morning.

Pulling the scarf tighter around her neck, Arabella pushed the exit doors and made her way to her next class. When making her timetable, she didn't know what had possessed her to put all her classes one after the other. Except she did, she thought as she smiled lightly to herself. If she got all her classes done before the afternoon, then she was able to pick up more shifts at the cafe.

Taking her usual seat in the back on the right, she unwrapped herself from her layers of clothing and took out her old laptop. Giving it time to boot up, she let the loud hard drive give background noise as she looked around the class. This room was much smaller and only had around fifty people who had already begun trickling in.

It seemed every row had two people each, sitting on each end. Her chair moved and Arabella looked to her left, noticing that someone else had taken to sit in her row. She smiled slightly at the boy and returned back to her whirring brick. Pulling out her notebook, Arabella began going over notes from the previous lecture. She had about five minutes before the class would start and she'd prefer to spend it revising, so she wouldn't have to do it later.

"Hey," She heard a whisper next to her and Arabella blinked as the breath of air hit her cheek. This person was very close.

She turned her head and as her eyes met another set of hazel ones, she noticed a grin from the corner of her eye as her mouth dropped from his proximity.

"I'm Jace." He introduced, thrusting his hand in between them and clutching hers. Arabella didn't glance down, unable to find herself looking away from him and gave him a tight lipped smile.

She didn't have time for this.

She didn't return the introduction, instead looking away and attempting to pull her hand back. When she felt resistance, she looked back at him, a curious look in his eye as he held her hand.

The unspoken question stayed in the air as she furrowed her brows and all he did was raise his left one.

Arabella sighed. Loudly. And as she opened her mouth to speak back to him, the lecturer tapped on the mic, causing Jace to release his hold on her.

Quickly retracting her hand, she raised her eyebrow back at him, before glancing back down to the lecturer, her thoughts completely returning to the task at hand.

It seemed that she would have to go over her work again when she got the time. Which wouldn't be after class because right after she had printing to do, and then work. The long thought process resulted in Arabella pulling up her planner from her bag. Crossing out the tasks she had already done, she began writing in the next set, trying to time out how many shifts of work she'd be able to get done, then putting her school work around it.

It seemed she'd be able to get a few hours of sleep tonight. At least four. Which is much more than she was used to these days.

All of a sudden she saw a hand come out and grab her phone. Before she could open her mouth in protest, Jace held her phone to his ear and she saw his phone light up on the desk. He was taking her number!

Arabella sat on her anger until the class ended and as she shut her laptop down she turned her fury on the boy sitting to her right. But as she turned to him, he was already looking at her, and as close as before. She closed her mouth and pierced him with her gaze.

"I'll see you later, Arabella." He rolled his R and Arabella's eyes widened. It had been a while since someone had pronounced her name like that.

Jace winked and walked out of the aisle, not looking back as he left.

Arabella didn't have time to think about what just happened though, she had printing to do.
