obsessed with books??

"Books must be treated with respect. We feel that in our bones. Because words have power. Put enough words together they space and time. Words do not kill. People kill. Wild animals kill. But words, words have an entirely different power. They enter through their eyes and ears and work their way into our souls."                                                              - Going Postal (2010)

So, I was recently "accused" by my cousin of being obsessed with books. WHAT?! How is that a bad thing? Books are wonderful! I'm not saying I disagree with him, I'm just saying: why isn't everyone? Books are magical objects that can send you anywhere, anytime, and let you be anyone. I think that's one of the reasons I like writing them so much.

To be fair, I do have a lot of books. I haven't read everything I own yet, and I'm constantly looking for more. What can I say? I'm a big fan of words. My favorite store is Barnes and Noble. I want to open a café/book shop when I'm older. Honestly, books are what keep me sane. I don't think I could handle the stress of everyday life if I wasn't allowed to read.

I emotionally connect with charaters and I feel like I experience what they go through with them. Like, when I write "To Hell and Back Again" I feel like I am Skylar. Which is how I got the nickname Skylar (which is not my real name, btw). Whenever I talked about my book I would say "I/my/me" instead of "her/hers/she". And honestly, I feel like if the writer has personal connections to the character, the story is better.

So here is my question to you: Is there such thing as reading too much?
