My thoughts on KH3 Re:Mind
So, I completed the entire Re:Mind DLC the other week, and have decided to give me thoughts on this, I'll spilt this into 3 sections. First, I'll give my thoughts on the Re:Mind episode, then the Limitcut episode and lastly the Secret episode.
Warning. There will be MAJOR spoilers for the endgame part for Kingdom Hearts 3, if you haven't beaten the game, don't read past this.
With all that being said, let's begin.
Re:Mind
Now this episode really helps to fill in the gaps that main story had, like: what happened to the Lingering Will? Why was Aqua frozen in fear? And how did Sora save Kairi?
Majority of this episode is going against bosses that you already faced before, like Anti-Aqua, the Organization and the Xehanort Replicas, however being able to switch between with Riku, Aqua or Roxas in the Organization fights when they were only just party members was worth it, along with the new team attacks such: Icy Slider, Thinking of You and One Heart were amazing.
The Guardians battle against the Replicas was great as you could play as all of them as once.
The extended Scala Ad Caelum was absolutely beautiful, despite it being just one new area, it's size made up for it.
Thankfully this story was actually pretty easy to follow, compared to the entire series. This DLC really shows how far Sora is willing to go save Kairi, by breaking a nature taboo and vanishing from his own world. I'm glad we got additional scenes, such as Kairi fighting Xemnas, explaining the connection between Roxas, Xion and Axel, and lastly the ending.
Limitcut Episode
So, a whole year has passed since the events of KH3 and the all gangs are searching for Sora, by going to the Realm of Darkness, searching every single world that Sora has previously visited, looking through the memories of Roxas and Xion, and even looking into Kairi's heart to find clues. Riku goes to the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee to see if they have uncovered anything.
The entirety of this episode is a data copy of Sora fighting data copies of the Real Organization XIII. As I was level 99 I had beaten majority of the bosses on my first try, I was happy that Marluxia had his doom counter in his fight, and Luxord had his time gauge like in his fight in KH2. Out of all the 13 fights, I found 3 of them hard, I died mostly against Vanitas' desperation move as I couldn't get the timing right to block it. Since Xion's light beams could decrease my health to just 1 I died quite a lot. Master Xehanort had a lot of new moves in his data fight, such all the lasers, the elemental bombs and his desperation move.
These fights were great as they were more of a challenge than compared to their base game fights and it was more of a one on one fight.
I absolutely loved all the new themes for each of the bosses, especially Vector to Heavens and L'Oscurità dell'ignoto.
The ending for this episode gives more of an idea to what could happen in the next game.
Secret Episode
The start of this episode was incredibly interesting with Sora and Yozora meeting in a night version of the Final World, especially since we only thought Yozora was a video game character that just happened to resemble a mix of Noctis and Riku.
This is possibly the hardest boss in Kingdom Hearts history, with 57 attack animations and 19 combos, one of those moves being able to steal your Keyblade and leave you absolutely defenceless and dealing massive damage if hit. He can even start the fight off with his desperation move, making some of moveset completely unblockable.
This guy puts the Lingering Will to shame. And I'm not afraid to admit that I died instantly on my first try and got the bad ending, with Sora getting crystallised and Yozora ending up in the daytime version of the Final World.
After a total of 7 hours in the span of 3 days I finally defeated Yozora and got the good ending. This boss was amazing as you really had to plan things out and understand his attacks, how they work, how to evade/block them and even how to break Yozora out of them and land a combo or 2 on him.
And that's all I gotta say about this dlc, it's really good and helps to explain and fill in the gaps along with adding new scenes to fix things that players had complained about. Sure it is quite pricey, but is worth it.
