Chapter 11 - She Happened

"Tanu seems like a true friend." Pragya acknowledged. "Did she manage to help out?" she asked hoping for a happy ending.

Abhi nodded. "She did. She told her father about the money problem and Yadav uncle helped my Dad."

"And what about the marriage thing?"

"She didn't tell him. When I asked her, she said she would do it at the end of the six months time."

"But why not? Telling after six months or right then would be the same thing, wouldn't it?"

Abhi balled his hands into fists. "I didn't understand why either until...until it was too late. What she did? I couldn't have ever imagined it."

"What happened?"

"I found out the reason she wanted to stick around for longer."

*flashback*

"Oh, I like you so much!"

"And I like you back." Abhi responded as he leaned closer to her. "You're so beautiful Sapna."

Abhi!" came a shout from nearby, shocking them. They at once broke apart and looked at Tanushree in shock.

"Um I...I'll be leaving then." Sapna uttered, looking away from Tanu's deadly gaze.

"You better!" Tanu threatened. Her eyes followed Sapna's movements as she practically ran away from there, leaving Abhi with Tanu.

It was around 5 in the evening, and the hall was almost empty. Seeing an argument about to break, the remaining students left the place as well.

"Ugh! Tanu, what the heck yo?! I was having a good time."

"Why are you being like this Abhi? Did you already forget what happened to your father's company recently? Didn't you promise to be more responsible?!"

"I know I know. And I am aware of my duties." Abhi bit out. "What's up with you these days? You're being too much of a complain machine, always telling me what to do. I understand that you're my best friend but that doesn't mean that you nag and chide me for every single reason."

"I have to do it since you clearly don't know what's good and what's not for you!"

Abhi let out a sarcastic laugh. "So you'll teach me what to do now?!"

"Abhi, why are you being like this?! Why are you wasting time with Sapna?! Didn't you say you were past your 'player' days?"

"I am. As for Sapna, I we're just being an item for some time. We know our responsibility."

"No you don't! What is between you and Sapna is nothing but lust. That bi-"

"Hey, watch it! I've tolerated you badmouthing me, but I won't tolerate anything against Sapna." Abhi warned. "Why can't you see it Tanu. We're just enjoying life! Besides, shouldn't you just concerning yourself with convincing your father."

"That's my business. I will tell my father the truth soon."

"So why haven't you?"

"Don't try to change the subject!" Tanu shouted. "Listen to me Abhi. Sapna isn't a nice girl." Tanu stressed. "She has had multiple affairs, cheated on many and caused so many scandals!"

Abhi snorted. "Come on! Didn't we play around dating different people Tanu? I never heard you complain about yourself then."

"We did. But we never went further than simple dating or hanging out!" Tanu pointed out. "Abhi try to understand please. Please! Change yourself abhi. Leave her."

"No."

Tanu clenched her hands into fists in anger. "Abhi, you're such a stubborn brat! Listen to me for once over your own ego!"

"Why are you so persistent? It's my life! Let me live it the way I want! It's already nearing six months. Once you tell Yadav uncle that we don't love each other, you go your and I go mine."

"I'm not watching you doom yourself because of your own stupidity!"

Abhi grit his teeth in anger. "What is this about? Why are you this angry, huh? Is is because there's something more to it? Is it because..." Abhi's eyes widened. "Oh my goodness! Sapna was right I guess."

Tanu looked at him in confusion. "About what?"

"You...you like me too, don't you?"

Tanu took a step back in shock. "W-what?! What, no! N-no, that's not truth!"

"Yes. It all makes sense now. You love me too. That's why you didn't tell your father the truth back then. You wanted to spend more time with me. You like me. That's why you're so interested in my life, aren't you?!" Abhi accused, stepping closer to her and glaring at her. "Sapna was right. You want to possess me and so...so you can't see me with her."

"What?! She's lying. I would never try to separate you if she was the right one for you!"

"I understand what it is now. It's just the jealousy of yours that's getting into your head. Now that I'm giving another girl more importance than me, you're spiteful. That's why you're being a bi-"

A loud sound echoed throw the place of a hand colliding with skin.

Only sounds that prevailed were sounds of heavy breathing and the drops of water falling from the leaky pipe.

Abhi raised his hand to touch the place that Tanu had slapped him. That slap of her reminded him of the tone he was using on her. What he was about to call her. She was only thinking for his good but he was being an ungrateful dork.

"Tanu I..."

"How could you? How could you think so low of me!?" Tanu spoke in a shaky soft voice, tears gathering at the corner of her eyes. "If you want to hear the truth than yes! Yes, I love you. I love you damn it!"

Abhi stared at her in shock at her bare truth. "Tan-"

"I know. I know you don't like me in that sense. And you're right. That why I didn't tell Papa the truth earlier. I wanted to be near you for as long as I can." Tanu admitted. "But I never would try to steal you if you loved another!"

"Tanu, I'm sorry. I di-"

"I love you, but this doesn't mean that I would try to separate you from Sapna! I planned to keep my feelings a secret forever from you and just go away! But I couldn't stay without saying anything after seeing how you were getting involved with Sapna!"

"Tanu I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry for being rude. But please understand. I and Sapna may end up becoming a couple in future."

"You won't. It's just a challenge to you. She's a challenge to you! That's why you're out for her."

Abhi chuckled. "Okay, I guess you're right. She'll bore me soon."

"When will this 'player' fever of yours get over? Just like you do with other girls."

Abhi could feel his anger rise slowly. "Okay, I apologized to you for my behavior. But this doesn't give you the right to question my character." Abhi defended. "Just let this go and let's just forget about it."

"I won't forget about it and let you continue as a heartless jerk!"

"Tanu, enough! You know what? I'm leaving!"

"Fine, leave! Do what you want you mindless good-for-nothing idiot!" Tanu shouted in anger. "After what happened to your father, I thought you would be responsible. But you're so useless!"

"You're no better. You're just a girl who likes to dazzle from her father's money. Just because managed to convince your father to help my Dad, you think you're all so high and mighty, don't you?!"

"So what if I do, huh?! I helped you when you were in crisis. You practically begged me to marry you when your unprofessional father was in debt." Tanu shouted.

By now, both were hurling harsh words at each other without being aware of how much they were hurting each other in the process.

Abhi could handle an insult against himself. But now Tanu was indirectly insulting her father. That was the limit. "Cheap bitch. I don't want to be friends with you anymore."

Tanu looked like she was just shocked with a thousand watt current. However, she was too angry to back down. "Fine! Be that way! I don't want to be friends with you anymore either! I hate myself right now for even loving you. You disgust me!"

*flashback end*

"I wish I had done that. I wish I had listened to her. I wish I had obeyed her. I wish...I wish I just accepted her love, even though I didn't feel the same. Then maybe...just maybe..."

"Maybe what?" Pragya questioned. From the corner of her eyes, she saw the wind and the storm lessen through the whole that was in the entrance. 'It's good that it's decreasing. Judging from the light, I think it's about to be dawn soon.'

"Then maybe...maybe Tanu...Tanu wouldn't be dead."
