*Rhodey POV*
Pepper wants me to talk to Steve. To Captain America. The guy of the 40s. They said he's out on a run. What the heck does that even mean? I mean Sam always complains about Steve passing him so how the heck am I supposed to have a conversation with him. How am I supposed to explain Tony's logic when I don't know Steve's logic. I mean he's a simple man but I find that complicated because I'm so used to Tony who is a complicated man making him simple. I get on the elevator and ride it to the ground floor. I step off and then go outside. I get out there and Steve is leaning against a tree. Well, it was easy to find him. Now I need to do the hard part. Talk to him.

"So you're the one who they sent to talk some sense into me" Steve asks

"Pepper has this idea in her mind that the people that know you and Tony best should talk to the other person" I say

"And what is she wanting you to tell me" he asks

"Stuff that you already know" I say

"You mean the fact that Tony is wanting to protect me. That he's wanting to basically wrap me up in bubble wrap so that the world can't hurt me. He knows I've been hurt by the world enough and he saw what it did to me and doesn't want it to happen. He thinks that if I am away from the city, the tower, the missions, that nothing will ever happen to me again. He thinks that being away from everything is what is helping me get better. What he doesn't know is that I've been getting together with either Bucky or Bucky and Sam and talking to them about things. I've been using them as therapists to let me rant and discuss the things of my past, present, and my future worries. He thinks he's protecting me but really I'm the one protecting him." Steve says

"Why don't you tell Tony that you've been talking with Bucky and Sam" I ask

"Well, you know how Tony is. He wants to be the one who fixes the problem. If he thinks that the cabin is helping me and he's the one that has been helping me then it's okay. Everything I do is for him. I lived a long life. Longer than most people. He's still living his life and I want him to be able to do everything that he wants done." He says

"Yeah but you really haven't lived your life Steve. So when you were young you were sick a lot and stuck inside. You got older but didn't get much healthier, stronger, or taller. You ended up in a lot of fights and only dreamed of being in the army. You finally got there but became a puppet and mascot. You were used as propaganda. You didn't get to do what you dreamed of doing. You finally fought but you lost Bucky, love, and a shot at life. You got freezed. You were found and used to fight our battles. You still weren't getting the chance to live life. You kept finding Bucky and losing him. He wasn't the same. You just now are getting to live a life. You have Bucky, you have love, you have kids, a family, friends, and not being used as a weapon but fighting battles you want to fight to give you a life you will love living." I say

"Wow. I guess you're right. I guess I never really thought about it that way. You all really have become my family. That's why I'm wanting to live here. I want to live with my family. My whole family. Not just some of it" He says

"Then you need to tell that to Tony. Explain that no matter how much he wants to protect you from the real world you need to be around your family. That everyone who lives in the tower is your family and together we will protect each other and help each other live a life worth loving" I say

"Thanks Rhodey. I will" he says

"You're welcome" I say

We bro hug and head inside. We get in the elevator and head to the main floor. Once we step off I head to the kitchen and Steve heads for his and Tony's room.

*Bucky POV*
After Pepper finishes delegating I get up from where I'm sitting and head to Tony and Steve's room. I knock and get no answer. I slowly open the door and see Tony sitting on the edge of the bed flipping through one of Steve's sketch books.

"You know, Steve's not a big fan of people looking at his sketches. Only the pieces that are finished and hanging up. Even then he doesn't sign them because he wants people to enjoy the art for what it is not because of who painted it." I say

"What he doesn't know won't kill him" Tony says

"You know, some of his paintings are hanging in the tower" I say

"What? Which ones? How did I not know this" Tony questions

"Like I said he doesn't sign them and he doesn't want people to know he did them" I say

"Tell me one of the paintings that he did" Tony says

"The one at the end of the hall" I say

"The one with the person standing there in a little bit of light and the rest of it dark? That one is one of my favorites." He says

"Why is it your favorite" I ask

"I guess I can sort of relate to it. Before I met Steve and such I had all this stuff. And then the accident happened and I was alone. My perspective on the world changed. I felt alone but not really. The world sort of became empty for me. However there were small beacons of light keeping me alive" he says

"That's a different interpretation of the painting" I say

"What's it supposed to be" he asks

"Steve doesn't show much emotion in his face. He shows it all in his paintings. That's how he gets all his emotions out. Or at least tries to. He made this one when he was remembering his past. He's alone. His best friend is gone and he thinks it's all his fault. There's nothing he can do about it. However he's not completely alone because something is telling him to keep going. Not sure if it's the fact that he wanted justice for me 'dying' or because Peggy gave him the strength to go on. He was miserable. He was alone. He lost the last bit of family he had left. He was in darkness but a little bit of life, of hope was there and kept him afloat" I say

"He wants to move back into the tower" he says

"You don't want to" I ask

"I want Steve to be okay" he says

"Tony, Steve is perfectly fine. You know how he leaves pretty much everyday in the morning to go on a run" I ask

"Yeah" Tony says

"Running is not all he does. He basically has therapy sessions with me. As we run he tells me all that is bothering him and we discuss why he is remembering these things and that it's okay to remember the past because it can help with the future" I say

"I thought he was against therapy" he says

"He is. He hates talking about his problems cause he doesn't want to be a burden to others. But he knows that you worry about him and he thinks that is being a burden to you. He knows I don't mind listening to his problems so he talks to me. He loves you Tony. He's being selfless like always by acting a bit selfish. You are his family but so are all of us. He is someone who will dedicate his life and give up everything for family. He stopped doing stuff for a year to go back under even though it frightened him because he knew it would better his family. He sacrificed so much for the US and now he's sacrificing for you." I say

"What do I do Bucky" he asks

"Talk with him Tony. You two need to talk out your disagreements instead of always walking away. He wants to live with his family because that is what matters most to him. You, Peter, Sarah Maria, and the rest of us." I say

"Okay. I'll talk with him. Where is he" he asks

"Probably right outside the door cause Rhodey went and talked with him" I say

Just as I say that there's a knock at the door. I open it and Steve is standing there.

"I'll leave you two alone" I say

I walk out and head to the living room.

*Tony POV*
Bucky leaves the room and Steve comes in. He sits down next to me and I grab hold of his hand.

"I love you" I say

"I love you too" he says

"Do you know where the kids are" I ask

"No but I'm sure they're fine. The others are responsible. Well most of them are" he says

"True. Steve" I say

"Yeah" he asks

"I'm sorry" I say

"What for" he asks

"Being over protective I guess" I say

"Tony you weren't being overprotective" he says

"You're such a liar" I say

"No I'm not" he says

"So if I go ask Rhodey what you and him talked about he wouldn't say anything about me wanting to keep you safe from your past" I ask

"Fine" he gives in

"That's what I thought. I know you like the back of my hand Steven Grant." I say

"Whatever Anthony Edwards" he says

"So you want to move back in here" I ask

"Yeah. I want to live with my family and you and the kids aren't my only family. All of the people on the team are my family and they are all here. We are to love the life we're living and to do that we need to be surrounded by those we love and love us back" he says

"I guess you're right. Well, I guess we should go turn the other room into the nursery" I say

"Yes. I'll go get the others to help us. We have all that stuff in the car. However I want to paint the walls." He says

"Woah, slow down Steve. Let's get some lunch first and before we move everything into the room it should be painted. Are you going to paint it a solid color or what" I ask

"Not sure." He says

"Okay. Let's go eat and then you and Bucky can go to the store and get paint" I say

"Alright" he says

We go to the kitchen and everyone is eating besides Peter and Sarah Maria who aren't there.

"Where are our kids" I ask

"Pepper took them for the day" Nat says

"Okay. Well you guys are getting four new housemates" I say

"Steve was finally able to talk you into it" Nat asks

"Yes. He used you all as an excuse" I say

"Bucky we need to go to the store after lunch to go get paint" Steve says

"Why do I need to come with? Can't you go alone or Tony go with or someone else? Why me" Bucky asks

"Because Buck. I thought you'd want to go with me and spend time with me" Steve says

"I'll go with you Steve" Rhodey says

"Okay. Thanks Rhodey" Steve says

"Woah, what is this? Are you ditching me for him Rhode" I ask

"Yes. Yes I am" Rhodey says

"Fine. I'm stealing Bucky." I say

"Woah, back off Stark. Bucky is mine. You already stole Steve from me. Don't steal Bucky from me also" Sam says

"What the heck Sam" Steve asks

"Oh my gosh cap. Not in that way. In a friendship kind of way. You were my best friend then Stark came along and stole you from me so then Bucky became my best friend. And then more. Don't steal my other best friend from me Stark" Sam says

"I'm still Steve's best friend. No one is taking that title from me. I just don't really want to go out today."'Bucky says

"Wait, I thought I was Steve's best friend" Sam says

"No. I am" I say

*Steve POV*
As the three argue over who's my best friend I look towards Rhodey and he nods. We say goodbye to the others and then head out.

"So how old is Sarah Maria" Rhodey asks

"I think the letter said she was two weeks old" I say

"Okay. So what's her full name? I'm assuming Sarah Maria is her first name" he says

"Her full name is Sarah Maria May Stark. I was thinking of just Maria May Stark but I decided I'd put Sarah in there as well." I say

"I like it." He says

"Do you know exactly where Pepper took the kids to" I ask

"Oh yeah to go and see Happy. I'm sure they'll be back by the time we get back because Happy can only take so much of Peter annoying him" He says

"True. Tony and I still need to punish Peter" I say

"What did pancake do this time" he asks

"Your pancake became a pancake. He swung into the window" I say

"Again? He's gotta stop swinging and texting" he says

"Yeah." I say

We get to the store and get out of the car. We go in and to the paint aisle.

"What are you wanting to do for the walls" he asks

"Not sure. I want it to be something that will work as she grows up" I say

"The rooms not very big right" he asks

"Yeah. It's definitely smaller than mine and Tony's and it's also smaller than Peter's. It was my room and I always told Tony I didn't need much" I say

"You could paint each wall differently. Like each wall could be painted for a different season or something" he says

"that's actually not a bad idea Rhodey. I like it." I say

We find all the paint we need and then I grab a few more extra supplies that I'll need. We then head to the check out and pay for the things. We get back in the car and head back to the tower. We pull in just as pepper is pulling out.

"Looks like the kids are back" Rhodey says

"Yeah. I wonder how long it took for Happy to get annoyed with Pete" I say

"I'm gonna say two hours" Rhodey says

"You think happy can last two hours? I'm gonna say 45 minutes. Closest one wins. Loser has to make all the meals for a week" I say

"Deal" Rhodey says

We grab all the stuff and head to the elevator. We ride it to the main floor and then step off. We take the stuff to the bedroom and then go out to the living room where everyone is. Everyone but Tony and Peter. Rhodey goes over to Nat and takes Sarah Maria from her and then sits down.

"Where's Tony and Peter" I ask

"Tony got a phone call or something like that" Sam says

"Peter is up in the game room. He was a bit crazy when he came back so we sent him up" Clint says

"FRIDAY please send Peter down here please" I request

"He's on his way Captain Stark" FRIDAY says

Three minutes later the elevator opens and Peter comes running out.

"You wanted to see me pops" Peter asks

"Yeah. I need you to give me your phone, web fluid, and suit" I say

"What!? Why" Peter asks

"Because you were swinging and texting again. This is like 15 times in the past week. No suit or web fluid for a week and no phone for two weeks." I say

"Fine" he grumbles

"Wait! pancake before you walk off how long did Happy last" Rhodey asks

"He only lasted 45 minutes Uncle Rhodey. I'm really hyper today." Peter smiles

"Darn you Stark" Rhodey says

"What did I do" Tony asks walking in

"You didn't do anything this time. I'm talking about your husband" Rhodey says

"What did the pure Captain do" Tony asks

"We made a bet and I lost." Rhodey says

"Don't you know not to bet against him when it comes to me? Pops knows a lot about me. What even was the bet" Peter asks

"How long it took for Happy to be annoyed with you" I say

"45 minutes" Tony says

"That's what I said. Rhodey said 2 hours" I say

"Really Rhode? Peter is really hyper today. He's excited about having a baby sister." Tony says

"So what do you have to do Uncle Rhodey now that you have lost" Peter asks

"I have to make meals all this week" Rhodey says

"Really pops? He doesn't make good food like you do" Peter whines

"Too bad. Now go get the stuff I asked for and set it in mine and your dads bed" I say

"Okay" Peter says

He walks off and Tony and I go sit on the empty love seat. Not too long after Peter comes back and squished between us.

"So Tony what was the phone call about? It seemed pretty serious" Sam says

"Oh that. Uh Steve could we have a private family meeting" Tony asks

"Sure. Is everything okay" I ask

"Hopefully" he says

"Let's go down to the lab. Come on Pete. Rhodey I'm trusting you with Sarah Maria. If you need anything for her it's in her room" I say

"Yes Captain" Rhodey says

Peter, Tony, and I get up from the love seat and go to the elevator. We take it to the lab. Once it stops we step off and Tony punches in his code and the doors open. We walk in and go sit on the couch.

"So what's up" I ask

"You know how after the New York attack I ended up in Tennessee" Tony asks

"Yeah. You told me about it on one of our dates. You said this boy helped you out and you helped him out" I say

"Isn't his name Harley" Peter asks

"How the heck do you know his name" Tony asks

"Well one day while we were working in the lab you went to do something and your phone was on. I saw you were texting someone named Harley" Peter says

"Oh. Well, Harley was 10 when we met. It was just him, his mom, and his sister. His dad walked out on them. Three years later his sister and mom ended up dead in a car accident and he was sent to a group home. I would send him some stuff to help him out but I wasn't able to adopt him because I didn't feel like I was good enough to do it. Well, he just turned 17 and hasn't been adopted yet and if he isn't adopted by the time he's 18 he's kicked out and pretty much living on the street." Tony says

"That's rough" Peter says

"Yeah. He had it hard. So did you Underoos. So Steve, I was talking with Harley on the phone and he was complaining about how no one is going to adopt him. I calmed him down some and got him to look on the bright side of stuff but do you think we could take him in" Tony asks

"I don't know Tony" I say

"Please Steve. He's a good kid and we're connected. Well, those are his words not mine. But I do see him as my own son just like we do with Peter." He says

"Pete what do you think about all of this" I ask

"Well, I wouldn't be the oldest, I'm already not an only child. As long as the middle child syndrome isn't thrown upon me I'm okay with it" Peter says

"If I am forgetting about you and putting you aside for Harley tell me and I'll do something to make it up to you. Oh and you and Harley will have to share a room" Tony says

"Okay. But no bunk beds" Peter says

"That's fine. So Steve" Tony asks

"When would he come" I ask

"I'm hoping as soon as possible. He's not treated well at the group home" Tony says

"Okay. Go ahead and adopt him and get him on the next flight out here" I say

"Yes. Thank you love. I already signed papers. You need to sign them and then I'll send them to the proper people." Tony says

"Okay" I say

He gives me the papers and I sign them. He then does some stuff and then pulls his phone out and makes a call.

T-Harley, I have you on speaker phone
H-what's up old man
T-I'm not the old man. Steve is. I'm just the mechanic
H-whatever. What's up
T-how would you like to come to New York
H-wait, really? You got them to agree
S-yes he got us to agree. However, you and Peter will have to share a room
H-that's okay. Why
P-we have a baby sister. Dad and pops just adopted her today. Her name is Sarah Maria May Stark. Wait, now I have someone else to help me annoy Happy. It's going to be so easy and fun.
S-Peter you need to stop bothering happy. He has a job to do
T-he's fine Steve. Happy could use some annoying ness in his life since I'm not bothering him anymore
H-hello, what about me? When can I come to you guys
T-well I just sent the papers in. I'm waiting for approval and then I'll send my plane to get you
H-okay. Well, my name was just yelled so I think they saw the papers.
T-okay. I'll send my plane now then. Tell them that all they have to do is get you a ride to the airport
H-okay. See you guys soon

The call ends and Tony puts his phone in his pocket.

"Looks like we have some rooms to take care of" Tony says

"Peter will help you with his and Harleys. I'm going to start working on Sarah Maria's." I say

"Okay" Tony says

We all take the elevator back to the main floor and go to the bedrooms. I open up the can of white paint and get started. Before I know it, it's dark outside and there's a knock on the door.

"Come in" I say

The door opens and Tony walks in.

"Wow. This looks amazing Steve" he says

"Thanks. Did you need something" I ask

"Yeah. Dinners ready. Oh and Harley is here." Tony says

"Okay. How long have I been in here for" I ask

"Only three hours." Tony says

"Really! It only felt like 45 minutes" I say

"Yeah. Now come eat and then you can go back to painting if you want. Sarah will just sleep in our room tonight" Tony says

"Okay" I say

I put the paint brush down and then go over to Tony. We interlock our fingers and head out to the dining room. We get there and the two seats that are open are the seats at the head of the table.

"Every single time. You guys do this every single time. Why can't we sit next to each other" Tony asks

"Because dad. Now get over it so we can eat" Peter says

"Be quiet Underoos before you get more grounded" Tony says

"Okay. I'm quiet" Peter says

Everyone laughs and then we start dinner. After dinner I go back to painting and I do that for a few hours. I finish painting and go out to the living room. I get out there and everyone is there but asleep. I carefully pick Sarah Maria up out of Tony's arms and head to her room. I lay her down and change her diaper then head to mine and Tony's room. I lay her on the bed and get dressed for bed. I then get in bed and pull her onto my chest so she can't fall off the bed. I have FRIDAY turn the lights off and I drift off to sleep exhausted from the past couple of days.
