«Çhapter Fifteen»

3rd Person

"You never truly realize what you have until it's gone, but by then you're too late to get it back and it's gone forever." Lily said at the funeral of the hundreds of students and a handful of teachers that died in the explosion of Phoenix Drop High.

There was a private funeral for Rachel Lycan that no one except family was invited to.

"Mom, Melissa," Aaron said as he stood at their graves, his black orbs glazed with tears. "Dad and I really miss you."

"I know you guys are heavens angels now, but I wish you got to bless the earth Sith your presences a while longer." He said as a lone tear slipped down his cheek.

"Everything has been quiet since you died, mom. It's like no one has happiness left in their lives. Dad started drinking and I've been working part time jobs to pay the bills. I'm going to Okhasis Prep now, which I know you wanted."

"I hope you know how unfair it was for you guys to abandon dad and I. I miss you guys so much that I have to drag myself out of bed each day, scared that dad will die or that someone else I care about will die. Bye Mom. Bye Melissa." Aaron said and went to pay his respects to his former classmates and teachers.

A few of his friends died that day and a few were severely injured.

Dante and Nicole died together, crushed by the ceiling near the door. They must've been trying to escape before it was too late.

Ivy was paralyzed from the waist down with no hope of ever walking again.

Lucinda broke her arm and got a concussion. She's lucky it was just that.

Sigherra is still unconscious in the hospital.

Travis broke his leg and Sasha had to get stitches after having a metal rod stab through her leg.

Garroth and Vylad died in the hospital. Vylad of a natural cause. Garroth was shot.

The list goes on and on.

"Isn't it funny how those who said, 'I will never hurt' you'll are the ones that end up hurting you the most because they leave?" Lily asked no one in particular as she looked at the hundreds of tombstones for her dead classmates and teachers.

They weren't just her classmates and teachers. They were people she could talk to and ask for help.

"It was selfish of Garroth to take the bullet for me." Zane grumbled. "It was selfish to leave me here with no brother left to depend on and finish growing up with."

"No one could've known this would happen," Ivy said from her wheelchair. "But I know that they would want us to be happy."

Little did they know that someone had escaped from a certain place and was watching them from the shadows, a cold, murderous look in their eyes.

"I didn't want to wake up. In was having a much better time asleep. And that's really sad. It was almost like a reversed nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare and your so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare. I'd rather be asleep so I can have dreams of my friends being alive. I feel so alone now. It's like everyone I care about is dying off one by one. It scares me to think of who will die next. Gene? Sasha?" Zenix said.

"Why do people have to be this lonely? What's the point of it all? Millions of people in this world, all do them yearning, looking to others to satisfy them, yet isolating themselves. Why? Was the earth put here just to nourish human loneliness? I lost my little brother, the only person who saw the good in me when no one else could see it, not even me. And now? I feel so alone." Gene said as tears flowed freely down his face.

After the funeral Lily went to visit Aphmau

She does this on a regular basis to see how she's doing.

"How was the funeral?" Aphmau asked quietly.

"It was sad, obviously. But even more so knowing they were my age, they were my classmates, and more of all- they were my friends. It's hard to accept that so many families lost an amazing child with the ability to accomplish great things, only to have that ability taken away." Lily replied sadly.

"I know it's easier to look at death than it is to look at pain, because while death is irrevocable, and the grief will lessen in time, pain is too often merely relentless and irreversible," Aphmau said quietly. "Quote by Robert Goolrick from 'The end of the world as we know it: scenes from a life'."

Sylvanna walked out of the kitchen with a plate of cookies and some tea. "Lily, that funeral must've been hard on you." She said with a sad smile. "I've never lost so many people I knew, but losing Aphmau the first time was like my world had ended."

"You won't even let me go outside." Aphmau whispered, staring at the floor.

"There are terrible people out there! For all we know, one could be lurking in the bushes by the window!" Sylvanna said.

Little did they know, the same person as before was there, holding a knife and smiling at the thought of their next victim.

Aphmau's POV

"I'm going to take a nap." I said after Lily left before going upstairs to my room, flopping on my bed.

"She's too protective of me. It doesn't matter how paranoid she is that something will happen! Aaron lost his mother and his sister!" I exclaimed, looking outside.

"I just want to go outside for one day." I murmured as I curled up under my covers and fell asleep.

I was awoken later that night by a call.

Zach's POV

"What do you mean, he escaped?" A guard asked one of the other guards by my cell.

"I mean, he somehow got past the security and escaped!" The other one exclaimed.

"Sorry to bother you nice guards, but can I call my family?" I asked. "Prisoners get to call loved ones every not and then, right?"

"I'll take you to the phone. You will have three minutes to speak to them and that's it." The first guard said and grabbed my arm, making sure I didn't try to run.

I found out the phone number for Sylvanna's house phone so I called that.

"Hello?" A quiet voice asked.

"Is Sylvanna there?" I asked.

"My mom is sleeping. Do you want to to tell her you called?" The young girl asked.

"Is your name Aphmau, by any chance?" I asked as the girl yawned on the other line.

"Yes it is, sir. How do you know that?" She asked.

"My name is Zach Phoenix-"

"You're my father?" She asked.

"I mean, I was about to do the whole 'I am your father' thing from Star Wars, but yes. I'm your father." I said with a small laugh.

"One minute left." The guard said and tapped his watch.

"Please tell Sylvanna I called. Also, tell her to look out for an escaped prisoner. I don't know who escaped, but someone did and-"

"Fifteen seconds."

"I have to go. Goodbye, Aphmau." I said and hung up.

"Let's get you back to your cell." The guard said and I calmly walked back to my cell.

"Hey, Zach!" Jeb said. "I heard the funniest thing today!"

"Oh, yeah? What is it?" I asked, only half paying attention.

"Some midget with blonde hair escaped! The guards called the guy a midget!" Jeb cackled and I snapped my head in his direction.

"Did they say his name?" I asked.

"I think it was Carmen or something?" Jeb asked. "Why?"

"Damn it!" I yelled and a guard hit my cell bars.

"Oi, be quiet, will you?" He asked.

"The guy who escaped is most likely Cameron Murder. If he escaped, who knows what will happen. And I just got off the phone with my daughter!" I muttered.

"Lights out!" The guards yelled as the other prisoners returned to their cells.

Once every cell was closed and locked the lights were turned off and the guards started walking around the prison to be sure everyone was in their cells.

I laid down on my cot and closed my eyes, trying to sleep.

"Time to watch this world suffer!" A short, cloaked figure cackled as he pointed a gun at a short girl with black hair.

"Aphmau!" Sylvanna yelled as the cloaked figure pulled the trigger.

Aphmau was pushed to the side as Sylvanna was shot in the stomach.

The cloaked figure ran off as Aphmau went to her mom's side.

"Mom!" She exclaimed, putting pressure on the wound. "Please don't die, mom!"

I wasn't able to move or speak, I could only watch as Sylvanna died on the ground next to Aphmau.

I bolted upright and stared at the wall, my eyes wide in panic because of my dream.

I don't know if that was a vision, but what I do know is that Aphmau and Sylvanna are in danger and I need to protect them.
