Chapter Eight: Florrie

November 9th, 2019

"This bonfire is going to be lame." Che said while changing into her designated party outfit. "At least my outfit will be cute..."

"You know it's cold outside and teachers are going to be there. That dress seems a little short to wear around the pervy teachers," I pointed out.

"Buuuut...," she prolonged the words, "boys will be there. The pros outweigh the cons, so I'm wearing the dress. Capeesh? On this topic, what are you going to wear cause I sure hope it's not that." Che motioned to what I was wearing.

"What's wrong with this?"

"Everything. Boys want to see that figure you hide under those ugly clothes of yours. You can borrow something of mine."

Che pushed her sliding mirror door aside and rummaged through her closet. "Perf." Che held out a cheetah print micro mini skirt and a tight black SKIMS bodysuit. "This is my back-up party outfit. Change and let's get going."

I stripped and then slipped the bodysuit and skirt on. I threw on my snow boots. Che was wearing heels but I prefer not getting frostbitten toes. Last time was bad enough.

The event had already started when we got there. The bonfire flames, glowing in the night, melted bits of the snow. Sitting logs surrounded the fire, some close to the fire and others further away.

I spotted Enrico which meant Harvey was probably here... If only he wasn't mad at me.

"Let's divide and conquer." Che said this before every social event for as long as I can remember. It became her little 'thing'.

I quickly scanned the area for Harvey. I spied him sitting away from the fire, alone in the semidarkness. I tried to sneak up unnoticed but he definitely saw me.

I waited for him to say something, anything, but he kept his mouth in a hard line with his eyes on the fire. "Hey, Harvey. Long time no see."

"Hasn't been long enough," Harvey whispered under his breath. "Good to see you too." His dark eyes finally met mine.

"You looked so lonely over here so I thought I would join you." I sat down on the log beside him. "How's hockey going?"

"Dunno..."

I spotted Che and Enrico playing truth or dare with some other students.

"Stop acting like a freak, Harv. Let's go play."

I scooted down the bench and inserted myself into the game. Miraculously, Harvey reluctantly followed and plopped down beside Enrico.

It was Che's turn to ask someone. "Florrie... truth or dare?"

"Truth." I usually chose truth just to be safe. There wasn't much I hid.

"Out of everyone playing, who would you choose to makeout with?"

"Hm," I looked around. "Enrico."

With a catty smirk, I focused on Enrico who was slightly blushing and then snuck a glance at Harvey, whose face looked sickeningly blank.

I dared a girl to get a snowball to the face and the game went on. Soon enough, Enrico asked Harvey to pick.

"Truth or dare, Harv."

"Dare," he said confidently.

"I dare you to... take off your shirt."

"No problem." Harvey lifted his shirt and made eye contact with me as he revealed his sleek abs. A smirk lifted his previously blank features and he seemed to tell me, "not so freakish now, am I?" without words.

I glared at him with as much venom as I could muster. "You ARE a freak," I screamed with my eyes. Harvey rolled his eyes and discarded his shirt onto the snowy ground before wrapping his arm around the girl beside him. What the hell? What was wrong with him?

His smirk said, "I need to keep warm."

Enrico laughed and the game moved on, but I couldn't. Not with Harvey acting like a total dingleberry.

I was so deep in rage that I hardly noticed when it was my turn again. The stupid bimbo beside Harvey had been the one to call on me.

"Dare," I spat out when I finally realized.

"Hm..." she murmured innocently. "Punch the biggest bitch playing."

I got up and looked around when in reality, I already knew who I was going to punch. Except, my snow boots would make much more of a statement...

Next thing I knew, Harvey was flat on the snow, a pink boot-mark already forming on his face. Seeing him hurt, all my rage dissolved into the wintery air.

"Holy cow," I said, breathless. "Harvey, I'm so sorry-" I moved to help him. Surprisingly, he accepted the help and soon I was carrying him back away to the boys' dorms.

"What are we even mad at each other for?" Harvey groaned as I laid him down on his bed. His room was very chaotic yet still academic and sporty with hockey gear strewn around.

I sighed and sat on the bed with him. "I don't know. You told me I was a whiny gossip-girl and I just reacted how Che would want me to. You know it's so hard being her friend."

"Why do you keep hanging out with her then?"

"She's... cool, I guess. I'm friends with everyone anyhow." I lifted my finger and let it land on Harvey's injured face. Lightly, I began to trace the boot-mark, which was now red. I knew it would be purple in the morning. How could I have done this to him?

"You know," I said, "Che would hate us hanging out. I should probably head back or she'll get upset..." Honestly, she'd probably already be upset from me nailing my boot on someone's face in front of everyone.

"Who cares what Che thinks. What you did back there... when you kicked me... that was the hottest thing a girl has ever done to me." Harvey's fingers threaded through mine.

"Oh really? I'll do it again," I said, batting my eyelashes.

"No! Don't..."

"Of course not. Now, I really better get back but... text me, okay?"

Harvey agreed and I got up to leave. Making my way outside, I promised myself that I would be careful around Harvey. I couldn't let anyone see us together, no one that would tell Che anyway.

Che wanted cool friends and Harvey was a loser in her eyes.
