Happy Reading! :)
3 days has past since my encounter with my mother. The days have gone by pretty well mostly thanks to Liam. From the moment we went to a cute ice cream parlor by his office to now he has tried to get my mind of my mom. And honestly it has worked...until now.
Liam's speech about my mother made me fall in love with him even more, even though I thought that was impossible. If I thought he didn't care for me now, I was mistake . And if these last few days haven't shown that then I don't know what would.
Everyday he would pamper me with kisses and telling me how beautiful I was. Not a day went by that he didn't show me some kind of affection and not a night went by either.
Liam has done a great job at not letting me think of Karen but now that he is at work and I was home I was alone with my thoughts. Certain thoughts that wouldn't leave no matter what I did. I was curled up in the bungalow with a blanket wrapped around me, oblivious to how cold it was. Having been out here all morning and now afternoon I was replaying everything from my childhood to now. Everything from when I was with my mom to being all alone. A part of me wanted to forgive her and slowly start making amends but the other part was saying 'no way in hell'.
But the big question was how could I forgive someone like that? Someone who really only cares for their self. My mind and heart were in a battle trying to decide what I should do.
Wrapping the blanket tighter around me I stared across the yard. I was slowly starting to get colder and I knew we were almost to the winter months. My mind finally drifted away from my mother for a moment as I thought about Liam. With the cold weather almost here I could see Liam and I cuddled together on the couch, drinking hot chocolate while watching cheesy romantic movies. I may have been stretching there but I could see it. Just the thought of it made my heart warm up.
I didn't know what time was, but I knew I should probably head inside to start getting ready. Tonight Liam and I are going over to his parents house for dinner. His sister, Julie texted me yesterday asking if I was coming for dinner and that she was finally going to tell her parents and Liam about going into nursing. She wanted me there as support and I was touched she wanted me there as well. I knew she was nervous about telling them but I knew they would understand. They were her family after all.
With a sigh I finally got up wrapping the blanket tighter around me. Even though it was sunny with a few clouds it was getting chilly. I absolutely hated New York's winter season. It was way too cold for my liking but I had to admit it was pretty when snow fell and make everything so white and new. Plus with it getting cold that just means it was getting closer to christmas time.
My feet clad in socks I made my way through the backyard and into the warm house. Even though I have tried to make the place homey it still didn't feel quite there yet but ever so slowly it was. Passing by the kitchen I noticed it was a little after 3, leaving me plenty of time to have a bath before getting ready to go.
After getting the bath all ready I slipped out of my pjs, yes I was still in them, and slide into the warm water. Liam's bath tub was to die for. It was large enough to fit maybe 4 people comfortably, and it even had jets along the inside. Before I got in I put some music on.
As I laid in the water resting my head back against the lip and the wall I closed my eyes listening to Rob Thomas's song Hold On Forever. I softly tapped my finger against my thigh to the beat as the sound soothed me. Before I knew it I was drifting off into no where land.
*****
"Is it casual or should I dress fancy!?" I yelled from within the closet. It was currently 4:30 and I was trying to find something to wear while Liam finished up whatever he was doing in the bedroom. He came home while I was still in the bath tub but I had nodded off for a little while so I hadn't heard him until I felt his hand on my shoulder. And lets just say he got a face full of water as he scared the shit out of me. Then of course that resulted Liam shedding his clothes and hopping in with me.
That is why I was scrambling to hurry and finish getting dressed. We are suppose to be there by 5 and since it was 4:30 and I'm not dressed I didn't think we would be making it.
"Casual. Babe it is just my parents and sister. You have seen them plenty of times don't worry." He yelled back but it did little to help me. Fed up with it I grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans and wiggled into them. Next I grabbed a pale blue button up shirt that I could roll the sleeves up or leave down. Thankfully my hair was already done in a messy but cute bun at the top of my head. Right before I left the closet to put some lipstick on I made the last minute decision of grabbing a dark maroon scarf and some cute brown lace up booties. How I got these I have no idea but I didn't stay to ponder it as I quickly went to finish my makeup.
Over the last few weeks Lennon has taught me a bit about putting makeup on and I was now good enough to do it on my own and not look like a clown. While in the bathroom I laced up the booties and put the scarf on. Putting on a matching maroon color lipstick, which I remember Lennon telling me was a must have, I left the room.
Making sure I had my ring on, and everything I needed in my purse I finally turned to Liam.
"Okay how do I look?" I asked biting my bottom lip. Why I was so nervous I have no idea. It's not like I am meeting his family for the first time.
"You look absolutely stunning." Liam said smiling as he came towards me. He placed his hands on my waist and dipped his head down to kiss me. Before I turned into an all out make out I pulled back.
"We have to go we are going to be late." Despite his protests I grabbed his hand and lead him to the garage. While he started the car I took in his appearance. Instead of his suit he was now wearing a casual pair of dark washed jeans, a grey t-shirt that made his eyes look grey instead of blue, and a delicious leather jacket. Yes a man in a suit is beyond sexy but so is one in a leather jacket. It gave him a bad boy vibe that I was very much enjoying.
The ride to their house we spent talking. Liam told me about his day at work and how a new investor wants to meet with him on Monday. And how the new renovations for the hotel in Barbados was coming along. I of course had nothing to tell him but that didn't stop me from making light conversation. Everything came so easily around Liam. I don't know what it was about him but he oozed self-confidence that it couldn't help but rub off on you.
"Do we really have to go in?" Liam asked as we pulled up outside of his parents home. I noticed Julie's car there already. "I already know she is going to talk about our wedding the entire time."
"Come on Liam it won't be bad. If she does we will steer the conversation away how about that?" I offered him a smile.
"Fine but you are making this up to me when we get home." He said opening his door up
"Making it up to you? Why would I be doing that?" I asked with a raised eyebrow as I met him around the front of the car.
"Because you are forcing me to be here."
"It is your family. I'm not making you do anything." I reasoned my hand interlaced with his as we made it to the front door. Not bothering to knock Liam went right in, me trailing behind.
"We'll see who is going to be in charge tonight." He said his voice low and his eyes flashed down at me. Instantly heat flashed right through me at his words but I had no time to say something back before his mothers voice was greeting us.
As Lilly hugged me I relaxed in her hold. I've slowly started getting use to being hugged by anyone other then Liam. We were lead into the kitchen where we were greeted by Liam's father Adam and Julie. The room smelt like great and instantly had my stomach growling.
"So...how was Barbados?" Adam asked after we said our hello's. Next to me Liam groaned rubbing his forehead.
"It was good." I answered trying hard not to blush. Liam's father sent both of us a knowing smirk, as well as Lilly before grabbing a dish on the counter and heading to the dining room.
"Jenna you look great." Julie said a minute later before her mom could butt in with a remark of some kind.
"Thank you! So do you." I still couldn't help but feel like a fat dwarf next to her. She was dressed in hugging blue skinny jeans and a cute VS sweater. It also didn't help she was wearing high heels making her taller then me by quite a bit. No wonder she was a Victoria's Secret model. I bet everyone feels that way when they watch the VS Fashion show every year.
"Are you going to tell them?" I asked leaning closer to her as Liam moved away to help his mom.
"Yeah I am. I'm just super nervous. I want to tell them before telling the agency that I am done. The hospital wants me as soon as possible." She whispered to me.
"Julie don't worry it will be fine. Plus I am here if anyone acts out." I sent her a soft smile before Lilly called us to come eat.
Dinner passed by pretty quickly as we all ate and talked. Lilly did mention the wedding but Liam and I successfully changed the subject before she got too into it. We hadn't really talked about it but I think both of us were feeling that we should put the wedding off for a little while; at least for now.
We all sat there after eating the great tasting meal. Everyone but me sipping on their wine while I drank my water. The conversation was slowly fading out and I kept glancing at Julie waiting for her to tell her news. After the 4th looks she shook her head vigorously at me.
"Would you please excuse Julie and me for a second." I said standing up and placing my napkin in my seat. Giving Liam a peak on the cheek at his confused look I dragged Julie into the kitchen and shut the swinging door behind us.
"Julie now is the time to say something."
"Jenna I can't! Maybe I will tell them in a few years, you know after they notice I'm not in commercials or something." She said nodding her head at her idea. "By then it will be too late."
"Jules they will understand. It is not like this is their dream for you, they want you to be happy. Plus it isn't like you are becoming a stripper or something you are going to be a nurse! That is a great job! You have to trust me on this." I stared at her as she bit her bottom lip thinking about it. Gulping she nodded at me.
"Okay lets do this." As we turned to head back in the dining room Julie laced her arm through mine. I didn't mind because I knew she needed the support. Pushing through the door we went around to the side of the table so everyone could see us.
"Hey everyone. Julie has something she wants to tell you." I announced giving her arm a squeeze. At this Liam and his parents turned their full attention to us.
"So um...for the pass few years I have been taking classes at NYU." Julie started. Giving her an encouraging smile she continued. "I've been taking classes to be a nurse and a few weeks ago I got offered an internship at a hospital. I am going to quit modeling and do it." We stood there silently as all three took in what she just said. Finally Lilly broke the silence jumping up from her seat.
"Jules that is amazing!" She yelled as she practically threw herself at her daughter. I barely had time to unlace my arm from Julie and step to the side.
"Why did you hide this from us?" Adam asked coming to hugged his daughter too.
"I was afraid you guys would be mad." Julie admitted her eyes glazing over.
"My sister is going to be the best damn nurse there ever was." Liam said before grabbing his sister in a tight hug and twirling her around. I held back a giggle at his cheesy line. He is such a loser.
"Have you told the agency?" Lilly asked. I toned them out as they started asking Julie questions. I stepped back and away to give them some privacy. I barely made it a few feet before a heavy arm wrapped itself around my waist and brining me backwards.
"You knew about this?" Liam asked softly in my ear.
"I did. She didn't want me to tell anyone until she did it herself." I said.
"I'll have to punish you for keeping this from me." His tone didn't sound mad, in fact it sounded amused and teasing.
"And if I resist?" I questioned a small starting to form on my lips.
"You won't be resisting." He stated. With a quick nip at my earlobe he pulled away from me. Leaving me a hot mess.
The next few hours consisted of Julie informing us about what the internship concerned and Lilly gushing over how proud she was of her. The conversation steered away from that to Lilly and Adam telling me stories about Liam and Julie as children. Just like sibling love they both had to made remarks about one another. As they bickered I smiled sadly at how close the whole family was. It made me wonder if my mother was close to her new one. For the sake of my half siblings I hope she was.
By time we noticed the time it was close to 9 o'clock at night. Time had flown by since we got here and I couldn't help but feel sad that we were leaving. I could stay and hang out with Liam's family forever. They made me feel at home and never failed to keep my included in their conversations. I was slowly becoming a part of their family and it couldn't make me happier.
"Bye drive safe and let us know when you get home." Lilly said after she pulled both Liam and I into hugs.
"I will mom. Thank you for dinner." He gave her a kiss on the cheek before moving to hug his father and sister. After doing the same we headed to the car. With a final wave we started on the way home.
****
"Please!"
"No."
"Come on please!! Please Please!" I pleaded turning in my seat to look at Liam.
"Why?"
"Because you have a great voice and I'd love to hear it." I said grinning. I watched as his face soften as he let out a sigh. I knew I won.
"Okay fine what song?" He asked staring at the road ahead.
"Whatever song that comes on that you know." Turning the radio up a little more we waited as the current song ended. As soon as the next song came on my grin widened. He had to know this one.
"No." He said sternly as he recognized the beat immediately.
"Yes! You promised."
"Hell no Jenna." Liam shook his head.
"Pwease!" I pouted. I brought my hands to my chest and pouted my lips. Even in the darkness of the car I was hoping it would work. He glanced at me and sighed once more.
"Fine." He groaned not looking happy that I won.
"Okay anytime." I motioned for him to go as the main chorus was coming up.
And I was like
Baby, baby, baby oh
like baby, baby, baby no
like baby, baby, baby, oh
I thought you'd always be mine
Liam sang. I couldn't help but laugh at him even though his voice sounded great. As the song continued I noticed he was bopping his head to the beat and even drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. As the Ludacris part came I sat up straighter. My time to shine.
Luda! When I was 13, I had my first love
There was nobody that compared to my baby
And nobody came between us or could ever come above
She had me going crazy, oh, I was star-struck
She woke me up daily, don't need no Starbucks.
She made my heart pound, it skipped a beat when I see her in the street and
At school on the playground but I really wanna see her on the weekend
She knows she got me dazing cause she was so amazing
And now my heart is breaking but I just keep on saying...
Liam and I sung it in perfect harmony. Laughing historically, we continued to sing along to Justin Bieber's song. The car came to a stop at a red light so I turned to grin widely at Liam as the song started to slowly fade. But right as I turned but bright lights heading our way made me freeze.
"Liam!" I barely had time to yell before suddenly I was smashed back against the door and the sound of metal against metal meet my ears. Everything seemed to go in slow motion.
I was pressed roughly against the door my spine flashing with pain but it went unnoticed as the car suddenly started to flip. I heard a high pitch scream and didn't know if it was from me or someone else. I clenched my eyes shut as the world tipped upside down. The smashing of glass and the creaking of metal met my ears. I gripped onto anything before the car slammed back down on the roof. My whole body fell as my head came in contact with the top of the car.
I could feel something wet running down the side of my face as I struggled to open my eyes. Once I did I wanted to shut them again but I couldn't. I was upside down the only thing keeping me still was my seatbelt. The sound of metal creaking and a hiss reached my ears. Liam! Turning my neck hurt but I had to make sure Liam was okay.
"Liam." I said. Just as I turned I noticed he was completely still in his seat, blood running down the side of his face. "Liam!" I yelled. He looked pinned to the chair because his entire side of the vehicle was crunched up. The front windshield was shattered and I bet there was glass in my hair.
In the distance I could hear sirens coming but I barely registered them. My body and stomach hurt but I ignored it. I need to get to Liam. I reached an arm out, my fingers barely scrapping his arm.
"Liam! Liam! Can you hear me!" I yelled. I could feel myself going into hysteria as he didn't answer me. My vision clouded as tears started falling down my cheeks. Suddenly my body shifted, gravity trying to bring me down. I screamed putting my hands out above me, feeling glass cutting the skin.
"Help! Someone help!" I yelled not knowing if anyone was around. A flicker thought of how the other driver came and gone as I stared at Liam. Stretching out one arm I tried poking him.
"Liam! Please answer me! Please you need to get up!" I sobbed trying to get him awake. I barely heard the loud screeching noise of sirens and tires around the car. "Liam!" I kept yelling even though my throat was going horse.
"Hold on we are coming to get you!" A new man's voice yelled. Turning my neck towards my window I saw a fireman laying on his stomach looking at me.
"Please help! He isn't moving!" I whimpered.
"Just hold on." He said before moving away. I heard him barking orders at people. My body started to shake and I tried Liam again but once more he didn't answer. "Please don't leave me!"
The sudden sound of metal scrunching made me scream in surprise. I watched as my door started to get pried apart. A minute later the same man's face appeared in the whole of the gone door.
"Don't worry we will get you. I need you to brace yourself as I cut your seatbelt okay?" I nodded putting my hands firmly on the roof of the car. The fireman counted down to one before he cut my seatbelt. My body flew down against the top or bottom of the car. I felt more glass cut my arms.
"Take my hand." Without answering I grabbed his outstretched hand as he slowly started tugging me out of the car. I basically crawled out on my hands and knees oblivious to the glass and metal digging into my palms.
"Please get him! He is stuck and unconscious." I immediately said as I was out of the car.
"We got him." The fireman said helping me up as multiple other firemen crawled into the car. "Come on you need to get checked out. Your head is bleeding."
"No! I have to make sure Liam is okay! I'm not leaving." I said looking back at the car. I could see the men working but that was it.
"He will be fine. Come with me." The fireman tried to lead me towards an ambulance.
"No!" I yelled struggling in his grasp. I fought against him but stilled once I noticed the other firemen pulling out a body, Liam. I went to go run to him but arms around my waist stopped.
"No ma'am I'm sorry! They need to get him on a stretcher."
"Liam! Liam!" I yelled wanting to go over and make sure he is okay. His body was still as a pair of girls went over with a stretcher.
"He's going to be okay." The man said again holding me back. I watched helplessly as they lifted Liam's body onto the stretcher. The girls barked out orders as they wheeled him to the ambulance.
"I'm going with him."
"You need to be checked out ma'am."
"No I am fine!" I snapped turning to look at the guy. I knew he was only doing his job but I didn't care at the moment. The only thing that mattered was Liam. "I am going with him." I hissed out jerking out of his hold and running towards the ambulance.
"Sorry miss you can't come in here." One of the girls said as she moved around the back of the truck.
"I am his fiancé I am not leaving him alone." With that I hopped in the back regardless of what the girl was saying. Seeing as I wasn't going to budge she nodded to the girl driver before closing the doors. As she moved around the truck as we headed to the hospital I grabbed Liam's hand.
"Liam please be okay. Don't you dare leave me." I sobbed clenching it. I wanted him to squeeze it back but he didn't. His hand was lifeless in my hold
The entire ride there the girl attached an IV to his arm and did what she could to the cuts on his face. I didn't care I was sitting there with blood running down my face or arms. Or that every time I breathed in it hurt.
"We are here!" The driver yelled. A second later the doors opened revealing people with scrubs on waiting for us. Not needing to be told what to do I jumped out as they rushed to grab Liam.
"Car accident. Head injury. Possible broken ribs and arm." The girl rattled off as a team of people grabbed the stretcher Liam was on and wheeled him through the doors. I trailed behind him my eyes wide.
"Put him in room 6 now!" One male doctor yelled. I tried following but a girl stopped me.
"Sorry can't go in there."
"That is my fiancé!" I turned to go past her.
"I'm sorry but the doctor needs to look at him. He is in great hands, let them do their job." She said kindly but firmly. I wanted to argue but I knew she was right. "You will be in the way and that will only make him worse." I numbly nodded taking a step back. The curtain was closed so i couldn't see Liam but I could see their silhouettes. Oh god please let Liam be okay!
"Come here sweetie lets get you patched up. By time I'm done we should know more about your fiancé." The nurse lead me to another room a little bit aways from Liam. I did not want to leave him alone but I had to.
"So what happened?" She asked as I sat on the high chair and as she moved around grabbing things.
"W-we, we were driving home from eating dinner with his family. We were at a stoplight when a car ran into the side of us." I said.
"What side were you on?"
"The passenger. The car hit his side." She quickly started patching up the cut on my head.
"You don't need stitches for the cut on your head but it is pretty deep." She moved onto the ones on my arms and hands. "Anywhere else it hurts?" She asked.
"M-my ribs and back." I said softly. My mind was racing a hundred miles per hour and my heart was going to burst out of my chest.
"Can you stand up and lift up your shirt." I wordlessly followed her orders and pulled my shirt up. I didn't look to see what she was doing or seeing as I watched the room where Liam was at. He had to be okay. He just had to be. Suddenly pain laced up my sides. I bit my bottom lip to not cry out but my eyes pricked from the pain.
"You have 3 bruised ribs and 1 cracked." The nurse said moving to grab my gauze I think. I spared a glance down and almost gasped out loud. The whole right side was black and purple already. It was swollen as was the other side but not as bad.
"There is nothing we can really do but let it heal. So I am going to wrap you up and everyday for the next few weeks you need to do so as well. Don't try to move your waist too much or it will hurt more and possibly crack the rib even more. Right now you don't need a brace but you may have to have one when you leave." She got to work wrapped something white and thick all around my ribs and chest. I barely glancing at her as I looked back at Liam's room.
5 minutes later she was done. My waist was bandaged up really well and I could barely move it or bend forward.
"Is there anyone we can call?" She asked pulling away from me. I numbly nodded yes and rattled off Lilly's number. I had no idea where my phone was but thankfully I had memorized her and Julie's number. Before I had a cellphone I had to and I still did just in case; and in this case it was a good idea on my part.
"Okay I will go call them. I just sent someone to get you some ice. They will be back to help hook you up with it. Don't move okay I will be back in a minute." She gave me a firm look before going to call Liam's parents. All I wanted to do was jump up and go see Liam. But instead I headed the nursed advice and stayed put, my eyes never leaving his room. Maybe because I was still in shock or too worried about Liam I wasn't feeling any pain. And I didn't want stupid medicine making me sleepy when Liam needed me. I could deal with the pain once it surfaces.
As the nurse said a girl who looked to be Julie's age came in with a huge package of ice. I could tell she was an intern as she nervously wrapped the ice above my left side, the worse side. Briefly thanking her she left the room. Just as she did the nurse came back.
"They are on their way." Before she could say anything else I saw the doctor and some nurses leave Liam's room. I stood up fully and took a step forward. "I will let you go in there if you promise to let me give you some medicine for the pain and swelling."
I readily agreed only wanting to see Liam. Thankfully she didn't make me have an IV for the time being. I usually hated needles but I barely felt anything as she poked me with multiple ones, injecting medicine into me.
"You can go now." She said and before she finished I was already moving towards his room. There was nothing else but me as I weaved around people to get to Liam. His name was like a chant in my head as I got closer. I silently begged God that he would be okay.
Moving past the curtain I came to a stop in front of a hospital bed. Liam looked so small and pale laying in the bed now dressed in a hospital gown. His eyes were closed and his body still. A big bandage was wrapped around his head and I noticed his left arm was in plaster and hanging above him in a sling.
"Liam." I chocked out. I went around to his right side tears making their way down my cheeks. Not caring about my bandaged hand I gripped his right hand with mine. "Oh Liam." A sob got stuck in my throat.
"Liam please wake up! You can't do this to me okay. I love you, I love you so much so you have to wake up." I cried clenching his hand. He still didn't move a muscle making me cry harder. With my free hand I ran it down the side of his pale face. His stubble tickled my fingers as I came to his jaw.
"This wasn't part of the deal! I didn't agree to this Liam. I don't care about the money anymore okay. I don't I just want you to be okay. Please be okay. Damn it! This wasn't apart of the deal." I sobbed ducking my chin to my chest as I sobbed over his bed.
"This wasn't part of the deal." I said again. As I cried I didn't hear the curtain behind me open until a low voice talked.
"Wasn't part of the deal?!"
