Tip #3: Establishing Connections
This is very important! ¡Muy importante!
As a writer, it's good to have connections on wattpad. You want to not only establish a good connection with readers, but other writers as well.
Establishing connections with readers:
The comment section.
This is important. Many people find comments as one of the hardest things to get on wattpad. However, they're pretty easy to get! One huge tip is to reply to comments. When your story is brand new and only has a few comments, it's best to reply to every single one. However, once you get a lot, you don't have to reply to all of them, bit ti's still good to do so.
Why? Here's three reasons.
It makes you come off as more friendly. People will see that you're interacting with the readers. It will make those super shy people more likely to comment, because you're being friendly!
Also, you can end up creating a conversation. This may do nothing but make your numbers up. In one of my stories, we have a comment with over 60 replies, just because we're singing a song. But this conversation can be meaningful, and you can get in the minds of your readers. You will be able to find out what they like and don't like about your story.
Lastly, it helps your numbers in general! The comments that you write add to your numbers!
Dedications.
This has helped me so much but it's so simple. After I did this, my numbers spiked. This really helps if you have one reader voting and commenting, and maybe three or four just voting, and the rests are ghosts.
All you have to do is add a dedication at the beginning of the story to one of your readers. Here is what you should say:
Dedication to wattpaduser12345. Thank you for supporting this story by voting and commenting!
You might ask what this does. First of all, wattpaduser12345 will be very excited that you gave them a dedication. They will continue to comment and vote.
Other users will also see it. They will think "Hey, I want a dedication!" They will be more likely to vote and comment to get this dedication.
Establishing connections with other wattpaders:
You want to make friends! These friends will be people who can potentially read your stories. Once you're good friends, you can ask them for help on a certain section of your story, and they will help you!
The clubs.
This one doesn't work very well, especially if you just play games. Try going to a certain club that your story relates to. Talk to other users with similar interests as you! Get your name known around the forums and in your fandom.
Messaging.
Do NOT go around messaging people asking to read your stories. Don't do this on people's message boards or in their stoties. It's rude. Unless the person says in their bio they accept reading requests, it's a bad idea. I generally don't respond to them. However, I do respond to them if they're asking for help.
Other people may be similar to this. If you message someone nicely for feedback, or ask a friend, then they may be willing to help.
Anywho, message people to become their friend. Find someone who shares similar interests with you, or message someone saying that they really like their works! My best friend on Wattpad messaged me saying that they loved my story. I thanked them, and we just started talking and clicked!
Be active!
This is important! No one will go read someone's story if they haven't been active on Wattpad. Be a wattpad regular and get your name out there!
Follow people.
Follow people who share similar intereswts. Look at their username, profile picture, bio and works. These people may follow you back, and once they do, they might check out your works!
And when they do this, their followers will see that they've read your works. Then they will check it out, and their followers will see that, and the chain begins.
So all in all, it is really important to have relationships with people. Just remember to be friendly and be active!
