CHAPTER TEN
" I was gone for only a few minutes and you basically told Gina who she can and can't date?!" Ellie stares at Ricky with wide eyes after he told her what had happened while she was gone. " That's just rude, Ricky. You should apologize to her."
Big Red nods in agreement. " Yeah. And people are allowed to go out with whoever they want and be whoever they wanna be."
Ellie and Ricky stare at him with confusion. " Sorry. I've been falling asleep to Dr. Phil lately."
Ellie chuckles. " Well, maybe you should keep watching it. You're giving good advice." she tells him and Big Red smiles.
" Can we just get out of here?" Ricky asked. " All of us could just go watch movies."
" Now?" Big Red looked at him.
" Dude, we're at Homecoming. I mean, you even have a date to Homecoming for crying out loud and you wanna leave? Also, you two should be findng eligible hunnies for me to dance with since it's obvious you two will be dancing with each other."
Ellie blushed at his comment, but looked over and saw that Gina and EJ were fighting. " That's not good." she said, getting the boy's attention and they look over at Gina and EJ.
They were too far away hear what they were saying, but Big Red stepped in to translate lip-reading rather poorly in Ellie's opinion.
" What is wrong with you EJ?" he started imitating Gina.
" I'm intimidated by how fly Big Red looks in that suit he borrowed from Ricky." he then imitates EJ and Ellie cringes at how bad his lip-reading skills were.
" You're not very good with lip-reading." Ellie said while shaking her head.
He nods " Yeah, I know."
They watch with wide eyes as Gina suddenly pours a cup of punch on EJ. " Well," Trevor said with wide eyes. " that happened."
Ellie looked over at Ricky. " Hey, now you can go apologize to her."
" Now?" Ricky nervously asked. " Are you sure?"
" Yeah, come on." Ellie gently grabs Ricky's arm and before they went to find Gina she glanced back at Big Red. " You coming with us?" she asked, not wanting him to be left out.
" Nah, I'm gonna stay here, but thanks." Big Red said and she smiles.
The two then headed off to find Gina before she left and luckily caught her just in time. " Hey, Gina!" she called out to her. Gina turned around with a frustrated look on her face. " Hi, Ellie. What do you need?"
" Actually, Ricky here, has something to say to you before you leave." Ellie said to her as she gently pushes Ricky forward with a reassuring smile.
" Need to borrow a buck?" Ricky awkwardly asked and Ellie facepalmed.
" You do not want to clap at me now. I will clap back." Gina said while putting her arm through the jacket as she began to walk away.
Ricky looked over at Ellie as if he didn't know what he was supposed to do and she dramatically pointed at Gina and mouthed, ' go after her.'
She smiled as Ricky stepped forward. " Wait! Wait! I was actually going to apologize. " he said and was surprised when she turned around. The two girls wait for the apology for a few moments before Ricky says, " Oh that was it. The apology."
Gina shook her head in disbelief while Ellie sighed and crossed her arms. " That was one lame apology." she said, sticking her tongue out childishly at Ricky whenever he sent her a playful glare.
" Look," Ricky looked at Gina. " who you hang out with or don't hang out with isn't any of my business."
" Then why are you making it your business?" Gina asked him.
Ricky then answered saying that he didn't know and then continued on to say how he was an outsider to the theater and with her being the outsider to the school since she's a transfer student he thought they were friends at the beginning.
" I mean, we were until you came for me." Gina sighed.
" Yeah," Ricky nods. " I'm sorry. My world's been a little upside down lately. At home, too. It's a whole thing. But luckily Ellie has been by my side and I think I would go crazy if she wasn't." he admitted and Ellie blushed at hearing that comment, but smiled shyly and looked down. Gina half smiled at them, thinking they were cute together and knowing they would eventually get together.
" Can you guys give me a ride and Ricky, we'll call it even?" Gina asked.
The two smiled at her and Ellie nodded while Ricky awkwardly replied with, " Yeah, sure."
****
They arrive at Gina's house a few minutes later and the three of them are sitting in Ricky's car with Ricky and Ellie in the front and Gina sitting in the back. Ellie turned to Gina who spoke. " So this is where I live. Ta-da."
Ellie and Ricky look over at the house, not really knowing what to say as they looked back at her and neither were judging at what kind of house she had. " Let me guess, you guys pictured a wrought iron gate and a bunch of gargoyles?" Gina asked them.
Both nodded and Ricky laughed. " Yeah, kinda."
" You're actually not that scary, Gina." Ellie said with a smile and Gina smiled back at her.
" I think I owe you a thank you, actually." Ricky starts to say and both Ellie and Gina look at him with surprise.
" For what?" Gina asked.
" You're part of the reason I stayed in the show, and helped me realize something else." Ricky said, glancing over at Ellie before looking back at Gina. He wasn't ready to tell her yet, but he planned on telling her soon. He then continued to speak. " That night at the skate park? You set me straight about my feelings and it's a big deal for me."
Ellie stared at Ricky, confused at what he was talking about, but it just made her want to know more about what he was talking about even though she had a feeling that it might be her, but she wasn't for sure.
Gina smiled. " Well, you're welcome. I think things will work out for you." she said, referring to him and Ellie and then she added, " And you suit Troy as well."
" You suit Taylor a lot, Gina." Ellie spoke up and Gina looked at her. " You just really fit theater in general. You're so talented and I'm honestly jealous you can do crazy dance moves that almost killed me."
Gina chuckled and then groaned. " I'm sorry about that."
Ellie chuckled and shook her head. " No, it's fine. All I'm saying is that I'm weak with dancing like that and you're super talented."
Gina smiled at her. " Thanks."
" I also still don't know all of the theater terms." Ricky admitted and the girls chuckled.
" I don't know, it just feels nice to have somewhere to go after school everyday, you know?" Ricky asked Gina and she nodded while looking at her house. " I know."
Just as Gina was about to leave Ellie says, " Hey, Gina."
She stops and looks over at her. " Yeah?"
" If you don't mind me asking, what happened between you and your date?" Ellie asked her.
Gina forced a smile. " I already forgot about it." she said and chuckled. " And I don't do dates. It's already hard enough to make friends."
" Well you just made two of them right here." Ellie told her and Gina smiled at them.
" I'm glad. It's hard when you move to five school in seven years." Gina explained and they stared at her with shock.
" How's that working out for ya?" Ricky questioned.
A moment of silence past as the two of them waited for Gina to answer that when the three of them looked over as the light on the porch started going on and off.
" I should probably go." Gina said.
" It was nice talking with you." Ellie smiled.
" You too." Gina smiled as she went to get out of the car, but stopped and looked at Ricky. " You know what? I meant what I said at the skate park. About you having your own style. I don't think I knew how much I meant it when I said it."
She looks at both of them. " Good night, you guys." she said to them before she got out and closed the door.
Ellie and Ricky didn't leave until Gina was in the house. While they were driving Ellie noticed that Ricky was going the wrong way. " Ricky, you're going the wrong way." she told him.
He shook his head. " No I'm not."
" Yeah, you are." she pointed the other way. " My house is that way."
" I'm not taking you to your house yet." Ricky said.
She looked at him with confusion. " Why?"
Ricky grinned. " It's a surprise."
He chuckled as she groans in annoyance. A few minutes later he arrives at the city park that was empty. " Why are we at the park?" Ellie asked as Ricky unbuckled his seatbelt.
" We're gonna dance." Ricky said as he got out of the car.
" What?" Ellie laughed as she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out. Ricky offered her his hand and after he locked his car they walked over onto the grass of the park.
" Why would we dance when there's no music?" Ellie looked at him with a raised brow as he got his phone out of his pocket and then smirked at her as he pressed a button on his phone and then laid it down besides them.
A few seconds later the song ' can I have this dance?' came on through the speaker of Ricky's phone.
Ellie looked at him with surprise and he smiled at her. He offered her his hand and she smiled as he pulled her closer to him.
As they danced she realized that this night didn't turn out to be the way she pictured it, but it turned out to be perfect.
