Chapter 40
Waiting for the elevator, checking her phone the doors open to the voice that once sent shivers down her spine, she stepped inside "Hey" she replied as the doors closed.
"So, yeah I hear that you came to help out Tim. That's great, if it's the truth" he remarked as they both stared at the doors.
"Of course it's the truth, why would you insinuate anything else" she calmy replied.
"Well, you have a history of not being totally truthful" he told her.
"As do you" she told him "the band is still like family to me, always will be. If I can help in anyway, then I will. My being here is not about you, me or what once was us. It's about Tim. I would think by now you have accepted the fact that part of our lives together is over and for good. Now if you'll excuse me I would like to join the others" she added as the elevator doors opened to the lobby.
Austin watched in silence as she walked away, admitting to himself it was going to be a great effort on his part to remain civil throughout the evening. There were things that had been left unsaid when they broke up as well as things that could never be taken back. Deep down he knew but would never admit, he was really more to blame than she.

"Will you just go for crying out loud I'm fine. You needn't be here day and night to babysit me" Tim told him.
"I'm not babysitting as you call it. You were there for me when I was too stubborn to admit I needed help, I'm merely returning the favor" Chance said matter of factly.
"Stubborn huh, you're calling me stubborn yet you're the one refusing to go out with friends and relax for a change" Tim sassed.
"I feel guilty" Chance stated sitting down in the chair.
"For what, you have nothing to feel guilty about. None of this is your fault" Tim assured him.
"Well, maybe not all of it but.." he began as Tim interrupted him.
"This will all be over soon, please just go have some fun. Besides, Olena is going to need you to run interference with Austin. That boy is far from over their breakup and she didn't come all this way to have to deal with him too" Tim stated.
"I don't know, but yeah that's true about Austin. None of us need him making a scene and starting more public scrutiny" Chance stated as the door swung open.
Hearing the patter on the floor he let out a disapproving sigh, "already? Can't this wait till tomorrow " Tim told the person walking in.
Chance looked at Tim, the huge fluffy ball of fur that had placed its front paws upon his bed and the petite blond that stood beside them.
"Hello Mr. Foust..my name is Katherine and this big guy is your service dog" she greeted.
Chance smiled and asked if he could pet the huge pup which she granted while explaining that normally it's not allowed for service animals but because he was going to be living with Tim during his recovery over the next few weeks it was allowed.
"Can't this wait till tomorrow. I'm tired" Tim stated refusing to acknowledge the animal.
Chance watched as the pup nudge his nose at Tim until he made his way under his hand with his head. Tim just kept his hand in place, not petting the animal despite his persistence.
"Mr. Foust, the actual training will begin tomorrow, but for tonight Satch will be staying here in your room so you both can become acquainted with one another " Katherine explained.
"How the hell can he stay here with me, he's gonna need to take a piss at some point and I sure as hell ain't taking him out. I can barely make my own way to the bathroom" Tim retorted.
"Satch? Where did he get that name from" Chance asked as he fluffed the dogs head.
"It's short for Satchmo, after Louis Armstrong. Our service dogs are named after individuals that were inspirational in what their lifes work had been. In his case, Satch has been assigned to Mr. Foust based on the similarities of their musical contributions " she explained.
Satch continued to nudge under Tim's hand while he continued to refuse any interaction with the animal. It wasn't that he didn't like dogs, it was the meaning behind why this one was now in his life. In his mind, if he allowed this animal in, it meant a life of dependence, forever sightless.
