Chapter 16
Chance stepped off the plane into the cool Wisconsin air. For whatever reason this flight didn't have the usual gangway to access the terminal. Pulling his light jacket up around his neck he quickly walked across the tarmac, thankful he'd only brought a carry on bag. The sooner he could get this over the better. Adam had arranged an Uber to pick him up to take him to the hotel near Jenkia's parents. The driver had already been advised, driving him directly to the hotel. Once parked he even ran around to the side opening the door for him. Surprised by his actions as most Ubers don't provide that type of service, Chance attempted to slip him a decent tip.
"No need, Mr. Ray. Everything has been taken care of for you as requested" he explained.
"Thank you very much" Chance replied, throwing his bag over his shoulder, quite surprised by the drivers actions.
As he entered the lobby of the hotel he was greeted by a gentlemen in his mid forties. "Hello Mr. Ray, we have your room already for you" he greeted, handing the room key to Chance.
"How did you know my name" he questioned cautiously.
"You're quite well known, sir. However Mr. Rupp contacted us with the details ahead of time. Your suite is located on the eighth floor, there are no other guests scheduled during your stay" he advised. "Would you like me to show you to your room" he added.
"No thank you..I'm sorry I don't think I caught your name" Chance replied.
"Stefan, sir. Anything you need, just let me know" answered the clerk.
"Thank you, Stefan" Chance replied before heading to the elevators.
"Mr. Ray, I'm sorry I almost forgot. I have an envelope for you as well" he stated as he ran to catch Chance.
Chance took the blank, sealed envelope from the clerk. "Who is this from?" he asked with hesitation.
"I don't know, sir. It was left at the desk with another clerk and I was advised to give it to you when you arrived" he explained. Chance nodded an acknowledgment as he entered the elevator doors. Staring at it as the elevator ascended to his floor he felt uneasy, as if to be more aware of his surroundings than he already had anticipated.
Looking over his shoulder to be sure no one was nearby, he slid the key card into the slot, "Dude, you are seriously over reacting to this thing" he thought as he walked into the room, tossing the envelope on the nearby table, then nonetheless quickly locked the door behind him.
"Damn, you outdid yourself this time, Rupp. Maybe you should be in charge of booking our rooms on tour" he said aloud as he walked around the suite. Separate living room with big screen TV and gaming console. Modest kitchen fully stocked. French doors separated the bedroom area from the living area with a king size bed and sliding glass doors that led to the balcony that overlooked Marshfield. The bathroom was equipped with a large, walk in glass surround shower with dual shower heads, a privacy area for the toilet and a large vanity and mirror. A small closet area was to the right of the vanity that contained towels and bed linens along with two white robes that hung on the back of the door.
Chance raised a brow as he noticed the two robes. "Odd but not uncommon" he decided as he knew a room of this style most likely would be set aside for a couple on vacation or perhaps a businessman on an extended stay. Setting his bag on the bed, he unpacked what little he brought and hung up his clothes so not to wrinkle before he dressed to meet Jenika at her parents. Feeling a bit tired from his early flight, he glanced at the clock. "Two hours. I can nap for two hours before I need to head to her place. Thank goodness for time differences" he thought as he set the alarm, shedding his clothing down to his boxers before climbing into the bed.

Tim had heard Chance when he left to catch his flight. He hadn't slept well having tossed and turned most of the night, images of Jenika plagued his mind along with questions of how she had played him for a fool all this time. Sitting on the couch he looked out over the terrain as the bus traveled down the desolate highway, trying desperately to find a solution to the mess his life had become. For the first time in a very long time he felt alone, a feeling he hadn't had since losing Caroline. But why, he wondered. The guys were all asleep on the bus, the crew was either driving or resting up as well. He came to terms with his feelings for Jenika the night she kissed Chance, so what was this about. Closing his eyes he suddenly remembered having felt a touch to his cheek. Now he understood, this feeling wasn't about what but more about who. This was about Chance and the lengths he was going to endure inorder to protect him.
