Chapter 6
"What was that?" I exclaim as I hear a noise in the old, abandoned house. I turn with the camera and I see Jaxon looking over at the wall. There's a dent and a bucket right under it. I walk over to the bucket and kick it down the stairs.
I hear it tumble down and hit a wall on the bottom floor. We keep walking through the house and get to the first bedroom. I open the door more and walk inside, Jaxon following right behind me.
There are ripped up books strewn all over the floor, covering almost the whole floor. Ink stained the blankets on the small bed, seeping through the mattress and puddling into the floor around and under the bed.
I walk over to the bed and touch the blankets, my hand coming back ink stained. That has to be really new then. I look around and see that there are ink cartridges strewn across the bed, exploded in the heat.
I film my hand and then we explore the room, looking in drawers and under the bed. I find a necklace and a baby tooth under the bed. I take a empty ink cartridge and push the baby tooth our from under the bed, showing it to the camera.
Jaxon walks over and scrunches his nose up in disgust. He walks away from the tooth and I walk into the closet, looking for anything that would be interesting.
"I found someone's diary!" Jaxon exclaims from the room. I walk out of the closet and pan the camera over to him where he stands by one of the bedside tables, holding a small diary. I walk over and turn the camera so it focuses on the book.
The name 'Estelle Cauldron' is on the front cover of the diary. The front of it seems to have been painted by hand, with birds and trees all over the front cover.
We walk out of the room and sit down in the hallway. Jaxon picks open the pick on the diary and opens it to the first page. I hold the camera up over the diary while he starts reading.
"Dear Diary,
I think I may be a lesbian. Mother says that it is a ridiculous thing and wants me to go see a counsler. After convincing her that it was a joke, she finally let me off the hook.
I don't know why I'm writing in this stupid book anyways. Mother gifted it to me for whatever reason on my birthday, perhaps wanting to snoop in on my personal life. Or maybe it's because dad left and she thinks that I'm messed up because of it.
It doesn't bother me all that much to be honest. He was a terrible father anyways. If anything, I think that she needs to go see someone about it, her bouts of sadness over him keep getting longer.
Well I suppose that's all for now. -Estelle Cauldron 6/18/13," Jaxon reads aloud. We skip through the book and figure out that Estelle decided that she is a lesbian and her mother gets a boyfriend who she doesn't like.
As we're reading through the diary, a book flies out of the bedroom. I point the camera over to it as more books start flying out. I turn it around the corner and record the room, trying to avoid having any books hit the camera lens.
I pull the camera back and keep recording. Suddenly the onslaught of books stop and the house is eerily silent. We get up and explore the other rooms, not finding any more diaries, but we did find a ring.
"We have enough footage. Let's leave," Jaxon says. I nod and we walk down the hallway. I keep the camera on the room the books flew out of as we pass it.
We walk down the stairs and our of the house. I turn the camera up and record the building for a few seconds before turning it off. We walk back to the car and I set the camera into the bag.
Jaxon drives off and we get to a pizza place. We take the pizza that we had ordered hours earlier and walk back out to the car, Jaxon driving to a park. We get out and walk down to a picnic table.
I set the pizza down and we eat while watching kids play on the playground, laughing and screaming. A little bit kicks his ball over to us and Jaxon gets up, passing the ball to him.
He smiles up at Jaxon and they go over to a grass area. Jaxon plays ball with the little boy while his mom talks to someone on his phone. The dad looks up at me and mouths 'thank you.'
I nod and keep eating my slice of pizza. The boy walks over with Jaxon and Jaxon hands him two pieces of pizza, telling him to give one to his mom. The boy nods and skips back over to his mom who finally got off the phone.
He hands his mom the pizza and they eat it before walking over to us. The mom introduces herself as Irene. We talk for a while and exchange numbers before the Irene says it's getting late and she needs to get Lane home.
Her and Lane walk off to their car, getting in and driving away. I throw the pizza box in the trashcan and follow Jaxon back to the car. He starts driving back towards the cottage.
I turn on music and lean against the window, feeling at ease as I look up into the night sky.
