Chapter 2
"We should probably get the stuff from the car now," Jaxon suggests, standing up off the floor where we were playing with the dogs. I groan but push myself up off the floor. I follow him outside and to our car. It's starting to get dark out, the trees taking away a lot of the fading light.
I grab the box of dog beds and walk inside, setting it down in the dog's room. We bought a three room cottage with two bathrooms, so we decided that the dogs get a room for their toys and beds and crates. We may or may not spoil them.
I walk back out to the car and grab two of the crates, setting them down in the room. I go and grab the last one while Jaxon brings two into the room. I like them all up and open the box with the dog beds, setting them in their respective crates.
My phone chimes at five, reminding me that it's time to feed the dogs. I pour their food into their bowls and let them eat. I set a bone in each of their crates for when they're done eating.
We walk in and out of the house for a couple of hours, taking boxes and other stuff out of the car and setting the stuff in their places. We put the boxes that we can't unpack yet into the spare room that we're most likely going to make into a filming area.
We both make our money off of YouTube, which allows us to move here and not have to drive to work. We finish getting most of the stuff out of the car and lock it before walking back inside. I flop down onto the floor and groan.
I feel Jaxon sit down next to me and play with my hair. I shift slightly so .I head is in his lap. We sit in silence, save for the clicking of the dogs nails as they walk around the rooms.
Jaxon pulls out a book that we are reading and starts reason aloud to me. I listen as he reads the story about a man who is investigating a graffiti scene, trying to figure out the culprit.
"Oh wow," Jaxon says. I look up at him and see him staring at the book in surprise. I have my hand and he keeps reading the book. The man finds the culprit in the city making another graffiti drawing. But as the culprit turns around the investigator can only stare in shock at the beautiful man.
He keeps reading the book to me before stopping a couple of chapters later. He sets the book down on a box and stretches his arms. I sit up and he gets up off the floor, offering a hand too help me up. I take it and he pulls me up off the floor.
"We haven't eaten dinner yet and it's already nine thirty," he points out. We walk to the kitchen and I grab some peanut butter and strawberry jelly from the fridge. We brought some food that's easy to make with us until the movers come tomorrow with our silverware.
I grab paper plates from the cupboard and put two slices of bread on each. I spread some peanut butter on all the pieces and then put jelly in the middle of two of them. I see Jaxon grabbing the chips and setting those down on the table too.
I bring the sandwiches over to the table and we eat with some music playing on my phone in the background. we finish eating and I throw the plates in a plastic bag.
"Thank you. It was really good my love," Jaxon says, wrapping his arms around my waist. I chuckle and then turn to face him, poking his nose lightly.
"It's just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich Jax, " I tell him. He nods and rests his chin on my head. I smile and rest my head against his chest, sighing contentedly.
"Still, it's delicious," he says. I laugh and kiss him on the cheek. we walk back to the living room and then tell the dogs that it's time for bed. They walk to their room and play or curl up to go to sleep.
Suddenly a flash of light runs across the room. I freeze and state at the place it disappeared in shock. I look over at Jaxon and see that he saw it too. I grab Jaxon's hand in mine and look around the room again.
"Hello? If someone is here, make yourself known!" He tells as I cling to his side. The light comes back again, walking into the dogs' room. We run in there and see it by Odin in the corner of the room.
It almost seems to be crouching down and petting the Odin. The light seems to look over at us before disappearing again. We search around the whole house for the light but we can't find it again, even after two hours or searching everywhere.
"I think we should go to bed. We've looked for it for a long time and we still have to unpack tomorrow," Jaxon says. I nod, too sleepy to argue with him, even though I don't really feel safe after the encounter with whatever that light thing was.
We walk to the bedroom and I open a box of blankets, spreading some out on the floor of the bedroom. I grab our pillows from off the top of another box, setting them on the floor above the blankets. I set us up in the corner of the room so we have walls around two sides of us.
I sit down on the blankets and I feel Jaxon climb in beside me. I look at the open door before signing and getting up. I walk over and close it, and the bathroom door, and the closet door. Then I walk back over to our blankets and lie down next to Jaxon.
"We're gonna be fine," he says quietly, running his hand through my hair. I snuggle into his chest and feel myself drifting off to sleep as I forget about the light thing completely.
