*Joey POV*
I wake up early and go to Chad's room to check on Asher. I go in his room and hear noise from the bathroom.
"Chad you okay" I ask
"Yeah" he mumbles
I'm about to go check on him when Asher starts crying. I pick Asher up and go downstairs with him. I make a bottle and sit on the couch feeding him. A couple minutes later Chad comes downstairs.
"Did you do your first chemo session yesterday" I ask
"Yeah" he says
"What do you want for breakfast" I ask
"Um eggs and sausage" he says
I hand Asher over to him and go to the kitchen. I make eggs and sausage for everyone. And by the time I'm done making them Spencer and Caleb are awake.
"Ooh thanks Joe" Spencer says
"No problem" I say
"Spence when are you leaving" Chad asks
"Um probably after breakfast" he says
"Me go with you" Lilly asks
"Sorry Lilly bug Spencer has stuff to do where he's going" Chad says
"But daddy I want to spend time with uncle Spencer" Lilly whines
"Lillian Rose Graham stop whining" Chad scolds
"Well I don't mind you coming with but you have to ask your dad first" Spencer says
"Daddy may I please go with Uncle Spencer" Lilly asks
"Ok" Chad sighs
"Thank you daddy" she gets up from the table and runs over to chad. He picks her up and kisses her cheek.
"I love you" he says
"Love you too" she says
We all finish eating and Spencer goes upstairs with Lilly. Once they finish packing and leave Caleb and I start playing Mario Kart.
"You wanna play Chad" Caleb asks
"No I'm good." He says
"You ok" I ask
"Am I a good father" Chad asks
"Of course. And you're a great bro as well" Caleb says
"Then why do I feel like Lilly doesn't love me or something" Chad asks
"I don't know. Maybe it's all in your head" Caleb says
"Chad there's medicine you need to take" I say
"Oh right. I forgot. Thanks for reminding me" he says
I give him the pills and He takes them. A few minutes later He runs to the bathroom. After a couple minutes he returns to the living room.
"You good" Caleb asks
"Yeah" Chad says
I get up from where I'm sitting and go over to the pack n play. I pick Asher up and go upstairs with him. I go to my room and sit down on the ground with him. There's a knock on the door.
"Come in" I say
"Hey joe you okay" Chad asks
"Yeah all of this is reminding me of Nae" I say
He comes over and sits on the ground as well. Asher crawls over to him and Chad sets him on his lap.
"I'm sorry man" he says
"No it's fine. I should be supporting you not shutting everyone out" I say
"Bro your best friend just died. I understand that you're worrying and scared that the same thing is going to happen to me. Just remember God is with is and he will protect us and be there for us" he says
"Ugh Chad" I whine
"What" he asks
"I don't know" I mumble
"Come on. We have to go to the studio" he says
"When are we telling the fans about you having cancer" I ask
"I'm not sure. Probably after this month. Once they see if the treatments are working" he says
"Ok" I say
We stand up and go downstairs.
"Caleb let's go." Chad says
"What where are we going" Caleb asks
"Studio" I say
"Alright. You good Joe" Caleb asks
"Yep" I say
We go to the van and Chad places Asher in his seat. Caleb gets in the drivers seat and starts the van. Once we're all ready he heads off to the studio. We go inside and I place Asher in the swing.
"So what do we need to work on" I ask
"Well we need to do another cover or something" Chad says
"Well we can't record till Spencer gets back but we can brainstorm and stuff" Caleb says
"We should do more Christian songs" I suggest
"I like that idea" Chad says
He grabs an expo marker and starts writing on the white board.
After about five minutes he steps away and I look at what he has written.
"Wow" Caleb and I say
"What" Chad asks
"You literally wrote half of a mashup in five minutes" I say
"Do you want me to write more" Chad asks
"Let's see what you got blondie" Caleb says
"Hey watch it mister I can still destroy you" Chad says
"Joe we have to leave in ten minutes" Caleb says
"Where are you two going" Chad asks
"Double date with Jewel and Kelsey" I say
"Does that mean I'm watching Asher" I ask
"No, Yuna and Destiny want to watch him" Joey says
"Isn't Donald dating Yuna" Chad asks
"Yeah. They started dating a few days ago apparently" I say
"Well Destiny and Spencer have a thing for each other even if they deny it." Caleb says
"We should just hook them up" I say
"Joseph Patrick Stamper how many times do I have to tell you no scheming" we hear
We turn around and my mom is standing there.
"Sorry mommy" I say
"Ooh Chad I like that song." She says
"You finished the song" I ask
"Yeah. Now play it on your guitar" Chad says
I grab my guitar and start playing it while Chad and Caleb sing.
"Wonderful boys. Where's Spencer and Lilly" she asks
"Spencer went Home to Indiana and Lilly wanted to go with him" Caleb says
"Oops Caleb we have to leave. Mom do you want to watch Asher" I ask
"Sure. Where you going" she asks
"A date" I say
"Ok bye" she says
"Chad we need the keys"
Caleb yells
Chad tosses the keys and I catch them. We go out to the car and get in. I start it and drive away.
*Chad POV*
Momma Stamper comes over to where I am and sit down.
"So what are you doing here" I ask
"Well I missed my two sons so I came to see them. But Donald was on a date and now Joey is as well" she says
"Momma Stamper I have something to tell you" I say
"What is it Chad" she asks
"I've been diagnosed with Leukemia" I say
"Oh Chad is it treatable" she asks
"Yes it is. I go once every week for chemo then once a month I get radiation." I say
"How is everyone handling it" she asks
"Lilly and Asher don't understand, Spencer and Caleb are being a it more worried about me and what I do. But it's really effecting Joey. I'm like a big brother too him and he tells me this is how it all started out for Jen. He's just really scared that The cancer won't get cured" I say
She's about to say something when Asher starts crying. I get up and grab him out of the swing then go back over.
"Are you eating" she asks
"Most of the time. And sometimes I eat all three meals" I say
"Good" she says
"Joey also told me if I go a day with out good he'll feed me baby food before I go to sleep" I say
"He cares about you just like you care about the whole band" she says
"Thanks momma stamper" I say
"Chad how many times do I have to tell you you can call me momma" She says
"Ok ok" I say
"Well I better go check into my hotel" she says
"NOOOOO" I say
"Why not" she asks
"You're staying in the house in the guest room." I say
"Ok thanks Chad. Well let's go to the house and put Asher down for a nap" she says
We get up and go to her vehicle. We get in and she drives to the house. We get there and go inside. She goes upstairs with Asher and I sit on the couch. My laptop starts buzzing so I open it. There's a FaceTime call from Spencer so I answer it.
"Hey Spence where's Lilly" I ask
"She's taking a nap" he says
"You ok" I ask
"My dad died a couple minutes after I got to his room. His last words were love you pal" he says
"Spencer I'm so sorry. Do you need me to come and pick up Lilly so she's out of the way" I ask
"No she's fine. But my mom is doing worse. Once she heard about my dads death she sort of have up on trying to survive" Spencer says
"Do you want us guys to come out when you go through the stuff" I ask
"No no it's fine" he says
"Ok" I say
"Bye Chad" Spencer says
"Bye Spence" I say
I close the laptop and momma Stamper comes downstairs.
"Who were you talking to" she asks
"Spencer. His parents got in a really bad car accident. His dad died and his mom gets worst every hour" I say
"Oh. How sad" she says
"Yeah. Well I'm gonna make myself something to eat. You want anything" I ask
"I'll have a sandwich" she says
"Ok" I say
I go to the kitchen and start making the sandwiches.
*Spencer POV*
I'm shaken awake by a nurse.
"Mr. Kane you should really get to your house and get some sleep" she says
"No no I'm fine. I need to be here for my mom" I say
"Ok" she says
She walks out and I turn my head towards my mom. A few minutes later she wakes up.
"Hey momma" I say
"Hey baby boy. You should go home and sleep" she says
"No mommy. I want to be here with you" I say
"But Lilly should sleep in a bed not in a chair" she says
"Mom I don't want to lose you" I whisper
"Spence. The lord needs me. It's almost time for me to go and sing with the choirs of angels" she says
"I love you mom" I say
"I love you too baby but there's something I need to tell you" she says
"Ok what is it" I ask
"You have a little brother" she says
"W-what" I ask
"He's 1 and his name is Sean Thomas Kane. I need you to take care of him for me. Love him and be there for him" she says
"Ok. Mom I'll do it. Where is he at" I ask
"Your grandparents." She says
"Ok. I love you mom" I say
"I love you too baby boy" she says
She kisses my forehead and I kiss hers. Then she lets go of my hand and the heart monitor stops. Misleads and doctors run in. I pick Lilly up and walk out. A couple minutes later a nurse walks out.
"I'm sorry mr. Kane we weren't able to save her. Do you know what her plans were" she asks
"My mom wanted to be cremated" I say
"Ok. Have a good night" she says
I walk outside and to my car. I place Lilly in then get in myself. I start the car and drive to my grandparents. I get out and get Lilly out then go up to the door and knock. My grandpa opens it and I walk in greeting my grandma holding a sleeping boy who is probably my brother.
"Is this Sean" I ask
"Yes it is. Are you going to take him back to Nashville with you" my grandma asks
"Yes" I say
"Good for you. We love you Spencer" my grandpa says
"I love you guys too" I say
I hug them both and my grandma passes Sean over to me. I go out and buckle Sean in Lilly's seat and Lilly just on the seat of the car. I get in and drive to my house. I go in and quickly grab mine and Lilly's bags. I put them in the trunk then go up to Sean's room. I pack a few bags with his things then put them in the trunk. I get in and start heading back to Nashville. Around 2 am I pull in the driveway. I get out and then get Sean and Lilly out. I go up to the front door and go inside.
"Hey Spencer" I hear Chad say
"Hey Chad" I say
He walks out of the kitchen and over to me.
"Who's the little boy" he asks
"My little brother Sean. He's 1. My mom wants me to take guardianship of him. She asked me this before she passed away" I say
"Oh I'm sorry bro. Here give me the little ones and you and Caleb can carry in the bags" Chad says
I give the kids to Chad and Caleb and I go outside. We grab all the bags and go inside. We put them on the ground and go to the living room and sit down. Chad passes Sean to me and I set him on my lap.
"How was it back home" Joey asks
"Ok. I mean I was mostly at the hospital. I went home a night to go through stuff." I say
Caleb's about to talk when we hear footsteps and momma Stamper appears.
"What are you boys doing up still" she asks
"We're talking and catching up with everyone's week mom. Go back to bed it's only 2:30" Joey says
"You boys should be asleep you have to be in the studio tomorrow" she says
"How did you know" Joey asks
"I looked at the calendar in the kitchen. Chad writes things on it and then Caleb crosses out the bad grammar and corrects it" she says
"How did you know it was us" Caleb asks
"I've learned your hand writing" she says
"Go back to bed momma stamper we'll head to bed soon. Once we finish talking and get the kids to bed" Chad says
"Alright ably because I know you're stubborn" she laughs
She goes upstairs and we continue talking. A little later I feel Sean shift. I look down and see him waking up. He looks around and starts crying. I stand up and go to the kitchen with him. I rub his back and calm down.
"who you" he asks
"I'm your big brother. Those other guys are my best friends. They're your uncles. Do you want to meet them" I ask
"Ok. But where mama" he asks
"She isn't here anymore. She had to go somewhere far away but we'll see her one day once were older" I say
"How old you" he asks
"I'm 20" I say
I go back to the living room and stand in front of the guys.
"That's uncle Joey he's 21, then he's holding your cousin Asher who's 1, then there's uncle Caleb who is 23, uncle Chad who's 27, and he's holding your cousin Lilly who's 4" I say
"Hi. I Sean" my brother says
"Hi Sean." They say
"Well I'm going to bed." Joey says
"Ok. Night Joe" we say
He goes upstairs and I sit on the couch. Sean gets off my lap and crawls onto Caleb's. He lays his head on his shoulder and sticks his thumb in his mouth.
"Chad does Asher have any extra nimmys" I ask
"Yeah in the basket by the door" he says
I get up and grab one then replace Sean's thumb with a nimmy and take him from Caleb.
"He was fine" Caleb says
"Yeah well I'm going up to bed. Goodnight guys" I say
"Night" Caleb says
"Tomorrow we'll put together one of the guests rooms into a room for the two boys. We'll get two twin beds that can be assembled into a bunk bed when they're older" Chad says
"Ok" I say
I go upstairs and lay Sean on my bed then get in beside him. I lay down and drift off to sleep.
