Chapter 5
Ed made his choice. He was gonna take his chances and aim for the window, it was already opened, all he had to do was get past Brenda and Havoc and jump. He was on the second floor so it looked like he'd better aim for the bushes. Brenda and Havoc had gone back to their game of chess and Ed as casually as possible, peeled the medical tape off of his arm, and swiftly ripped the IV out of his arm. He winced and actually took a moment to look at his wrist, he'd ripped the IV out earlier yesterday which caused his wrist to become bruised.
Ed just shook his head. 'I don't have time to pity myself, I can't get to Al either... I need to get Marco's research, I left it in my dorm I know that but it's like a twenty minute walk from here and swarmed with the military and Mustang. I'll grab the research and head for the train station. I have to go off map for awhile, find more about the array from the lab and the two strange people there. Al will be safe here...'
Ed nodded to himself, confirming his plan. He took a deep breath, looked to the window, cleared his mind and bolted. He flew out of bed racing to the window. Immediately he was tackled down by Havoc who managed to dive after Ed. Ed wasn't having it though, he shut all thoughts down other than escaping. Tackled into a heap on the floor, Ed tried to shove Havoc off. Brenda quickly helped Havoc, grabbing Ed's flesh hand, getting a wince from him as his wrist was a war zone from IV punctures. 'gotta get free!!!' Ed growled inside, as Havoc kept him smooshed against the floor and Brenfa worked on capturing Ed's other hand. It was hard to see who to hit or shove when your head's pressed against the tile Ed discovered. 'It's cold...' Ed thought, it was a welcomed feeling against his feverish feeling skin. Ed was almost tempted to just give in if the two would just get the heck off and let him just soak in the cold. But Ed never gave up easily. Using his free arm, he threw a hard elbow, evoking a "wow!!!" from Havoc as he barely dodged it.
"c'mon kid! Geeze! Stop being a frickin pain!" Breda griped,
"Get!! Off!!" Ed yelled back, trying to yank his left arm out of the man's grip.
"Stop trying to elbow me!" Havoc barked out, Ed managed to roll Havoc off, immediately kicking, Ed flailed and struggled not letting up. 'I'm not giving in!!!!' He thought, all his energy poured into this plan. He had to escape! A sharp pain ripped through him, his stomach was less than pleased with the contortions of escape. Ed tensed up as he sucked in a breath in an attempt to process and continue. He hesitated a second too long because Havoc was back, and pretty teed off too. He grabbed the back of Ed's neck with one hand and kept Ed's head down and against the floor. Using his other hand Havoc pressed the small of the kid's back, keeping his stomach pressed against the floor. He had him pinned while Breda managed to capture Ed's automail arm keeping an iron grip. 'trapped! I'm trapped! Not good!!' Ed's thoughts were going a mile a minute.
"Holy crap! Why can't you just chill out boss?" Havoc said, not sounding happy at all. Ed didn't care, eventually the two would loosen their grips and he'd make it to the window.
Havoc, keeping his grip on Ed began to kneed the back of Ed's neck. Back a few years ago, He had dated a chic who was all about natural medicines and such. She worked at a spa and had taught him the neck was the control room. Once you got the neck to relax, the rest of the body followed, whether you wanted to relax or not.
Ed immediately tensed, or at least at first he did. All his energy was sapped, he was hurting now from struggling and now it seemed all his muscles were giving up. He began to relax.
'no!!! I have to get up NOW!!!!!!' Ed thought, trying to summon any strength he had within him doing all he could to not just go limp.
"Get off of me..." Ed demanded.
"Just relax kid..." Havoc said in a gentle tone, feeling him starting to relax and give in. Havoc continued his tactic while Breda just shot him a questioning look.
'cold... it's nice..' Ed thought to himself, as his cheek stayed against the cold floor, his muscles had long since gone weak and limp. The dizziness from earlier had returned and Ed found his eyes closing. 'I have to get up... get out..' Ed thought to himself, the room began to tilt as he recalled what Brenda had said earlier, he wouldn't get far due to the medicine. He felt like mush, the throb in his stomach began to feel fuzzy and his senses began to fade.
"That's right chief..." Havoc murmured as he watched the kid fight off sleep.
Ed was being coaxed, and he knew it. But at the moment he couldn't find the reason to care, his vision was blurring up and his eyelids felt so heavy, they began to flutter. Ed fought to keep them opened, only for them to soon, slowly shut. Darkness began to engulf him, and he became prey to the enchantress that was sleep.
"What the heck did you do Havoc?" Breda asked as they both watched Ed slip into sleep.
"Literally the only thing I could think of." Havoc replied as he and Breda returned Ed to bed.
Ed woke up a few hours later, dully noting that at least his neck didn't hurt like last time. He went to rub his eyes only to find out he wasn't exactly be able to.
"wha..?" He slurred as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing. His hands. They were cuffed to the sides of the bed rails. He looked at his left arm, which was handcuffed to the left rail. A new IV had been inserted, and on his right was a similar situation. His right had been cuffed to the right rail. He felt foggy, his mind was groggy and his vision reminded him of being underwater.
Havoc and Breda heard the cuffs rattle a bit and looked over, pausing their game of old maid.
"We didn't want to have to do this kid, but ya left us no other choice." Brenda said.
It took Ed a minute to process what he said, before replying.
"oh..." Ed nodded a bit. Handcuffs? Really? Ed could snap them easily with his automail arm. But at the moment that seemed like a lot of effort and energy Ed didn't have within him. He turned his head to look out the window, it was dark out now. It had apparently been a few hours since he was last awake.
"Go back to sleep Ed, it's alright." Havoc said as he shuffled the cards.
Ed debated a moment on whether he should or shouldn't, but at the moment. What else could he do? So he did as told, and went back to sleep without a fight or protest to be heard.
