chapter 4
'The cicadas... It is around summer time now isn't it? They're pretty loud today..' Ed thought to himself. His whole body felt warm, and numb. It was too much work to open his eyes or to move. his breathing was light and even. A light breeze brushed against his cheek letting him know the window was opened, however as he began to wake up more he realized the buzzing wasn't cicadas, but voices.
"...- what did he want?" a stern voice asked, in a low whisper.
"He said he came to check up on brother.." A higher, more childish one said in a whisper as well.
"Geeze Roy, you freak shows breathe trouble I swear." A deep sigh was head.
Ed's thoughts muddled about, as he felt the left side of his neck protest in pain from how he slept on it. Opening his eyes he saw that the end of his bed was a chair for havoc, as he played chess on a lunch cart. Brenda sitting in a chair across from Havoc playing with him. Mustang, Al, Hawkeye, and Hughes were standing off to the side talking deeply.
Ed shifted a bit, wincing as his neck was stiff. At his movement, Havoc greeted him.
"Hey boss, how ya feeling?"
Ed, to say the least wasn't exactly peachy about being bed ridden and was going to inform havoc of how
" oh so great " he was doing but he just muttered something random and turned to the window.
'Oh... Right, it isn't summer. It's fall... There's no cicadas then...'
He snapped back into reality when Havoc flicked a chess piece at him.
"It's rude to ignore boss" havoc grinned.
Ed shooting a glare, spoke.
"What's everyone doing here?"
"Trying to figure out why the president decided to pay you a visit, and why you seemed to have tried to check yourself out of the hospital despite being in a critical state." Said Hawkeye, who looked less than pleased with Ed.
"...I didn't think I had to ask for permission to leave a hospital." Said Ed a bit salty.
It was Mustang this time who replied.
"You do. You're under my command and I've ordered you to stay put." He said in an angry tone. Well Ed wasn't going to play along, he was feeling a bit more awake this time around so he sat up, ignoring the screaming protest of his wound. he fumbled with the tape on his IV when a strong wave of dizziness hit him.
'Wow... What the heck..?' Ed thought to himself, apparently he should've taken the IV out earlier.
"you ain't gonna get far kid, nurses just changed out the meds about ten minutes before you woke up." Breda said, pointing to the quarter empty IV bag.
Ed frowned deeply at this. This is how's gonna be then? Fine. So be it. Ed can be patient. Eventually, Mustang and everyone else would leave and Ed would grab his work and Al then leave off to wherever they needed to go. Ed leaned back, waiting. Mustang wasn't stupid, so he spoke up.
"Breda and Havoc will be monitoring you during your stay Edward." He said, a smirk on his lips as the kid clenched his jaw no doubt down right furious now. So with that he, Hughes, Hawkeye, and Al left the room to finish their discussion at HQ. Leaving Ed, Havoc, and Breda behind. Ed frowned as he viewed his options, he wasn't gonna be able to fight off Havoc or Breda, but he couldn't afford to sit around any longer. He'd have to take his chances.
