Snow skipped home, humming softly to herself.  Her parents were away patrolling the borders, the ones with Stone Pack if the pup had remembered correctly.  

So she wasn't surprised when she came home to an empty den.

After a few minutes of reading some stories about human customs (why are humans so stupid?) and their effects on climate, a clear howl rang through her ears.  She jumped up and trotted to the sound: her alpha.

After a few minutes, she emerged into the announcement clearing, along with all the others in her pack, other than some of the younger pups.

"Stone Pack tried to breach our borders," the alpha told them, growling softly as he stood before them, "thankfully, a patrol was there and they were unable to break through.  However, there were some causalities."

Snow's heart jumped as two betas each dragged a body out of the bushes.  Her parents.

"No," she whispered.  Coal leaned into Snow's side, trying in vain to comfort her.
