Meet the Parents
After retracing our steps back to Jem's home. I opened the door only to be tackled by a petite girl, her golden hair flowing as we fell back.
"Oww.. Why am I always tackled when I open this door?" I murmured and complained as I held my back. The figure above me trembled as hot tears wet my shirt.
"Jen.." I called her and she jolted before she cried even harder. I rubbed her back up and down, trying to calm her down.
"I was.. I was so worried." she cried and hugged me tight. Yes, it was getting hard to breathe but I really didn't mind. Poor she must've been worried to death.
"Shh. It's fine now.. I'm home." I whispered into her ear and hugged her tight.
"Yes, welcome home, dear one." An unknown feminine voice interrupted and I lifted my head. There in front of me was a couple, maybe in their late 30s or early 40s, standing, each wearing wide grins.
A gasp escaped Jenny's lips as she hurriedly broke our hug, wiped her tears and stood up. She flustered around before she successfully collected herself.
"Uhmm.. M-Mother, Fa-Father.. this.. this is Ella." Jenny introduced and I stood up and bowed respectfully at them.
"My, what a lovely girl!" The woman exclaimed happily. "And what might this lady be to you, Jen? I'd never seen you cry like that since Shasha." she continued and turned to Jen.
"Well, th-that is.." Jen seemed to hesitate and turned to Jem and Levi, who were frozen stiff behind me and gawking, asking for help.
"Uhmm.. M-my.."
"Friend. I am Jenny's College friend, Mrs.." I answered and let the sentence hang as I didn't know her name.
"Emily Baskerville. Please call me Aunt Emi, Ella." she said and handed out her hand.
"Pleased to meet you, Aunt Emi. Actually Jen and I went to the same college." I told her and took her proffered hand.
"A beautiful lady both inside and out." she whispered which I barely heard. "So? Why were you with little Jem? Were you also searching for his ma--" she was cut when Jen hurriedly cupped her mouth and dragged her inside while laughing quite awkwardly.
I stared at them confused and heard sighs from behind me. I arched my brow at them and they just smiled at me. Something's fishy in here. Are they hiding something from me? was what I thought as I stared at Jem and Levi.
Alex leaned in closer to Levi and whispered something in his ear. "What's wrong?" Levi craned his head towards Alex and answered him. "She still doesn't know."
Why did I heard them? Why whisper if I can hear them?
"Guys?" I finally voiced. They stiffened before they turned to me nervously. "What's with all the whispering?" I asked.
Levi immediately turned to Alex, who instantly raised his hands up in a surrendering manner and stuck his tongue out. Levi turned back to me as I searched for anything that would give something away.
"Do you really want to know, girl?" a deep bass voice suddenly asks and I turned to Jen and Jem's Father. He had a smirk on his face as his gaze redirected at Jem.
"You wouldn't dare." I heard Jem sneer.
"Oh yes I would." His Dad challenged.
"Dad!!" A shrill sharp voice called and we all turned to Jen and her Mother walking back to us. "What are you doing?" Jen scolded.
"Nothing! Just playing along darling." He said and grinned playfully. Jenny gave him a skeptical look before she let go of her mother's arm and stood beside me.
"Anyway, they are all tired so could we all just take it easy and let them rest?" she asked and gave both of her parents a meaningful look.
"Sure. That's fine by me. After all, we have all the time in the world. You too Jem, get a proper good night's rest. I heard you've been searching night and day for the little lady." His father said and smiled. It even looked like a teasing smile to me.
Jen then pulled me along and went upstairs. I turned past my shoulders to check on Jem and saw him and Levi went the opposite way; to the direction of his study with Alex and the others. Jen then went straight ahead to my room, closed the door and locked it. She heaved a sigh as she dove for the bed and buried her face in the pillow.
"I'll just.. go ahead and take a dip in the tub." I told Jen and she just waved her hands. I turned for the bathroom but paused when Jen called me. "I'm sorry about them, Ella." she said.
I smiled at her and gave an 'okay' sign and proceeded to the bathroom. I dipped my exhausted body into the warm bath and let my strained muscles relax.
Soon, my heavy eyelids shut themselves and I was brought back to that dark dimension with nothing but a pair of victorian couch. I opened each eye slowly and knew I was not alone.
"Hey." I greeted her without bothering to look.
"Hey. It's been awhile." She answers with the same voice as mine. "So you've met them again." she added.
"Them?" I asked and lifted my head.
"Yes, your familiars." she answers. I pondered on what she said and remembered the four new people I just met that all claimed to be my familiars or guardians.
"Yeah, I did. It's too much to take in really." I confessed and sighed. I heard her giggle softly.
"But that's the truth, you know? Up until you were eight, all of your memories were sealed. It was impossible to destroy them anyway." She filled in.
"So that's why I couldn't remember anything about my childhood." I murmured.
"Please don't feel bad about it. Queen Elise did it to protect you." She said softly. I sighed, because even if I try, I won't be able to hate my own mother, who did so much for me.
"Yeah, I know. She was always the worrywart after all." I said and chuckled as I reminisced how panicked she'll get whenever I'd get wounded, bruised and so much more.
"But now that you're aware of what you really are, your rights to the throne left vacant for years is restored." She said. "And that'll only mean, more dangers would come your way. Your life will be in constant danger, as well as those people you hold dear right now." she informed.
"I kind of figured that. What am I supposed to do then?" I asked and slumped against the back rest of the couch I occupied.
"Why don't you exercise your power, as an Aesir and a werewolf, then? As an Aesir, you hold the greatest power among all Gods and Goddesses. You even belong to the main branch and the royals. As a werewolf, you are the lone daughter of the greatest alpha this land ever had. With proper practice, I'm sure you'll be able to access your power easily." she suggested. I thought about it for a while.
Sure, being all powerful is nice and awesome but not all things come free. If I choose to have them rather than ignore them, I'm sure I am bound to pay a price. I kind of have this gut feeling that I would not like what I'll have to pay for it and seeing Jem got taken away from me in that dream sure had me terribly shaken. I don't ever want that to happen. About my being a werewolf too has yet to happen. I have not taken my first shift yet and I don't know when.
"I'll.. I'll have to think about it." I answered her quietly. She hummed in consideration before I closed my eyes and reopened them after a short second. I was back in the brightly lit room, with cream tiles all around me and warm water that had gone cold soaking my naked body.
The pounding on the door finally registered in my mind and I climbed out of the tub. I took the towel and wrapped it around my body and tied my hair up in a bun. I opened the door slowly and the knocking finally ceased.
"Jen?" I asked the disquieted girl in front of the door.
"Oh gosh! I thought you collapsed in the tub! I've been hammering this door for about two minutes already and you don't respond nor make even the slighest sound." She exclaimed, sighs heavily and leaned against the door frame.
"I-I'm sorry. I-I dozed off when I was there. The water was just too relaxing, you know?" I said and laughed nervously. She turned to me blankly before she sighed again and smiled.
"I guess the whole thing wore you out, huh?" she asked. I nodded my head before I looked down to my feet.
"Well, anyway you are now safe and back in home, so I guess we should just put things behind us." she said and walked to the wardrobe. She picked out my clothes and threw them to me before she walked to the bed and settled comfortably while turning the TV on.
I changed into the fresh clothes Jen chose for me and settled beside her. She just flipped through different channels all the time that we really couldn't get to watch anything decent.
It had been sometime since the flipping through the channels had ceased that I thought Jen had finally liked a show she wanted to watch. I peeked at her and saw her eyes closed and her breathing slow and peaceful. It brought a smile to my face as I watched the girl sleep peacefully and I covered her with the blanket. I settled beside her and let sleep take me too, which it didn't hesitate in doing so. As soon as my head hit the pillows, I was out like a light.
Jem's P.O.V
I led the other wolves that tagged along with my mate, who were basically her abductors as well as her familiars, to my study. Earlier, Dad had been mean. I have a hunch that he knows what Ella is to me while Mom, well, she didn't have a clue so I guess it's fine.
"Come in." I invited them as I walked to the back of the desk. Dad decided to join in our short meeting and I let him. He was still an alpha after all even if he had stepped down. They filed in and lined up in front of my desk while Dad and Levi stood at the corner of the room just speculating.
"Why are we here? Shouldn't we be taken with our princess?" The purple-eyed guy asked.
"We didn't get the chance to introduce ourselves. I don't even know your names yet, so what do you say about you introduce yourselves to us?" I asked as I leaned on my swivel chair.
"I am Alex, bearer of Fire element." The jet-black messy haired guy said first without hesitation.
"I'm Zyll, governing the Earth element." The purplish eyed guy followed.
"I'm Rin and this is my twin Len." The only female in their little group said and pointed out her twin.
"I bear the Air element while Rin hold the Water element." Len said and dragged his shirt's neck hem down and revealed a tattoo. The others followed his movements and showed their own tattoos.
"Our princess seemed to trust you, so we'll try to do just that." Rin said and smiled at me as she fixed her shirt again.
"And your princess is?" I asked.
"The girl you claim as yours. Ella is our princess. She is more than what you perceive she is. She is no ordinary girl." Zyll said and stared right at my eye, not breaking our eye contact and bowing his head in respect.
As a person, I understood that it must be because he only serves Ella and no one else, but as a wolf, I don't like it one bit. Every wolf regardless of their age or gender must show respect to an alpha. That's what I was taught and the principle carved in my head, but due to the fact that they are Ella's guards, I suppose I could bend that for them.
However, Ella being something more than a mere human is unbelievable. I mean, she smells, looks, acts, thinks, feels, and grew like a human. I couldn't think of anything else for her to be if she's not one.
"Then.. What is Ella?" I finally asked. This time, they seemed to hesitate to answer my question. It was clear that they still could not trust me wholly.
"That.. That is.." Rin voiced and glanced towards her peers, seeking for help in explaining the matter.
"She is the daughter of Queen Elise, the late queen of the aesirs, the woman who once governed all other gods and goddesses. Ella succeded the ability of her mother and now bears the responsibility of taking over the throne and restore the governance that was disturbed." Alex kindly filled me in.
"So you are her guardians? The ones who were supposed to protect her?" I asked and arched a brow.
"Yes, we are." Zyll answered.
"Why weren't you around when she was attacked by a rogue? Weren't you suppose to protect her ALWAYS." I pointed out and narrowed my eyes.
"We were separated from her!" Len exclaimed and stepped closer. Alex held out his hand and gently pushed Len back. Quite a good choice if one would say. Nothing was holding me back now that Ella was safe upstairs and oblivious to the state of affairs in my office.
"You were.. separated? Why?" I asked, a bit intrigued by what the boy exclaimed.
"When Ella turned 8, Queen Elise left the palace with her. Some said she wanted to let Ella live a normal life along with her Father. Some said she was being irresponsible and neglected her duties to her subjects." Rin started.
"But because the other aesirs didn't like the man Queen Elise chose to be her heir's father, she couldn't do anything but elope with him, thus, the vacancy of the throne." Zyll followed through.
"Why didn't they want Ella's father? And another thing, aren't you all werewolves? Does Ella know about your true nature? I believe she loathed us creatures to her core." I told them, the sadness unconcealed.
Alex, Zyll, Len and Rin all looked at each other before they turned back to me, quite dispirited, each wearing a confused face.
"What do you mean?" Rin asked first.
"Aren't you her mate?" Len followed.
"Don't tell us she doesn't know what you really are?" Alex asked next.
"You didn't tell her?" Zyll asked too, quite calmly actually. I averted my eyes and ran a hand through my hair.
I can't tell her. I can't bring myself to. I know it's very unbecoming but I'm scared. I'm scared she'd hate me because of my nature.
I thought and balled my hand into fists, my face marred in pain.
"Oh." Alex voiced, the thought finally dawning into him. "She knows but I don't know if she remembers." he continued softly.
"I see." I said and unclenched my fists. Getting upset about my mate not knowing what I am is the least of my concern. I need to establish a connection between the four of them for them to access the pack link.
"Well then, I know that you all want to protect her but you can't do so if you're not a part of my pack. If you want to join, from now onwards, you must address me as Alpha and Ella as your Luna. I suppose you don't have anything against those?" I asked and eyed them all.
"Yes." Rin answered.
"Your respects?" I asked and arched a brow at her.
"Oh! Yes, Alpha." Rin answered and bowed strangely, as she balled her fist and placed it over her heart and bowed.
"Well then now that that's settled you can-" I was cut when a burning sensation spread across my body like wildfire. I held the center from where the feeling started and held my chest. It was painful. Increadibly painful.
I clutched my clothes and staggered forward, trying to walk to where I knew the pain was coming from. To my mate. Ella was in pain and I do not have any idea what was causing it.
"Ugh." I groaned.
My sudden weakening alerted all the wolves inside the room and they rushed to my aid. All the while asking me what was wrong.
"E-Ella.. Ma-Mate.. Hu-Hurting.." were the only words that went out from my mouth as I stretched my hand, hoping I'd be able to reach the door and go to my mate's side.
Everyone immediately knew that there could be something wrong with Ella when suddenly a shrill and agonizing scream reverberated inside the house, hurting our ears.
Rin and Zyll bolted out from my study and dashed upstairs, to where Ella was. They kicked the door open and saw Jenny beside Ella, panicking. Not knowing what to do, she held Ella's hands as the lady thrashed on the bed all the while screaming in pain.
They rushed to her side and Zyll pinned Ella down to stop her from thrashing when she flicked him away and he was sent crashing against the wall. Rin's eyes widened when she saw the brightest shade of gold decorating Ella's once chocolate orbs as a growl escaped her lips.
What's this?
Rin thought as she eyed her convulsing princess. She had never seen her this violent and not with those brightest glowing golden orbs.
A few moments after Zyll crashed against the wall, Alex and Len came up while supporting weak me on their shoulders, barely able to keep myself up. The moment my and Ella's eyes locked, the shade of my eyes must have morphed into one like Ella's as one single thing flowed out from my mouth.
"Mine."
Ella jolted and yanked her hand from Jenny's hold and sped against the window, hitting it and crashing as she fell all the way down to the ground from the second story.
BUT.
She wasn't injured. She got up immediately and raced to the woods, disappearing against it. I growled and the shocked Alex and Len immediately let me go and backed a few steps.
"You just got home and you're running away again? No way am I letting you run off." I grunted and shifted to my sandy wolf and passed through the hole in the glass Ella made. I followed her scent but what I saw there wasn't Ella, but a snow white wolf lying across the moon lilies that bloomed.
What is a rouge doing in here? How did it reach this far in?
